Unfortunately; the whole Zumwalt class has been caught up in a mess of contract fall-throughs, congressional budget cuts and administrative policy changes. BAE systems is now back on track with the railgun more of less; it's likely the Zumwalt class will get a bit by bit fitting of it's next gen systems. Hopefully some more hulls in the class will be laid down but the Arleigh Burke's a much harder ship to replace than the Perry Frigates were. It will happen eventually; sooner if a major conflict sparks in the South China Sea or elsewhere. Then, suddenly congressional funding will rain down like no tomorrow!

As a Texan (and history student) I'm a little disappointed at that, just because it's showing the progression of Texas history, not glorifying the Confederacy or racism. I've visited the Battleship USS Texas , BB 35 . I visited the Alamo when I was attending the USAF Military Police Academy in Lackland AFB San Antonio . I was a US Navy sailor , and the navy contracted for us to attend Air Force police training after closing down their MP school in Lakeland N.J. I'm a native South Carolina boy , but if I ever moved to another state , Texas would be my choice .

Santa Anna ordered that his own injured soldiers be given no food, water, medicine or medical treatment, instead simply stripping them down and leaving them in the desert. Those who were heavily wounded were stripped of all their possessions and left to die where they lay. The Mexicans weren't even allowed to put them out of their misery. Putin wouldn't do that. Stalin didn't do that. Hitler didn't do that, especially not to his own men. Santa Anna did.

As a Texan, born and bred, I've been to the Alamo, I've been to Goliad (which is today a pretty small town with a museum commemorating the folks who were killed there), and just outside Houston I've been to the site of the Battle of San Jacinto several times, though not in years now. San Jacinto, where Texas won it's independence, was (last time I was there) kind of a non-descript very flat field. We were taught during 7th grade (mandatory Texas history year) that it was covered in reeds and tall grasses that allowed the Texas army to sneak up on the Mexican army in broad daylight, launching the ambush. And "annexation" as used in the video you watched would be better described as "granted statehood in the United States". Anyway, if you make it to Texas, all three sites can be reached with a two day trip, but I'd plan on a day at each site.
The Siege of the Alamo was 13 days long and when it actually fell it was more like 3,000 men against 100 men. Because of Texan people dying of wounds and starvation inside the Alamo. And Because of the 13 days of siege. Santa Anna had time to call up more troops.
The battle was on the last day - there were three charges by the Mexicans, the first 2 failed and the third they entered. The Mexicans had of course the disadvantage until they entered due to the high cost of breaching the walls. There were about 180-185 Alamo defenders. The Mexicans were also at a disadvantage as it was very difficult to supply such a large force in such a desolate place - which Texas was at that time.
Hey Artur i am a Texan and I Would love to have you come down to Texas and visit some of the historical sights and eat real Texas BBQ and TexMex. Texas is full of interesting sites and is highly underrated amongst Americans. Many think Texas is either a desert or flat plains which is far from the truth. It is unfortunate that many of the stereotypes of Texas are quite troubling, in the sense that despite what the "politics" may appear it is a very diverse and inclusive place and that many of the state-wide issues are reflective of US issues (rural-urban division in economics and voting patterns and power). It's just like how people speak - I find many people affect an accent - George Bush was a great example as he had his normal speaking voice and then he had that Panhandle voice that he could turn on and off.

It was a tiny little cannon, too. But at San Jacinto we had TWO cannons, although they were not big ones, either. The Alamo, by contrast, had several cannon of standard size, and they caused a majority of Santa Anna's casualties in the assaults on the Alamo.
The "Manifest' was based on the American Congress understanding that Europe was constantly at war because of too many neighbors sharing a space. So they understood that they were in a unique situation, being a New Country with only a few Neighbors, also new, and a lot of territory open to expansion. So it was basically a race to acquire as much land as possible, to limit future conflicts, by reducing the number of neighboring Foreign States. Considering the record of non aggression between the United States and other New World Countries, it worked.

In simpler terms, Texas is a state who's culture is built upon this idea of respecting your fellow man. It does not matter the color of your skin, it does not matter from where in the world you are. Every man bears some level of common decency towards his fellow man. And if this is achieved, everyone gets along fine. It's when you go out of your way, acting the fool and kicking up a ruckus that you start to annoy the Texan. We like the quiet, and the calm. And if you stir it up, and try to incite an outrage, you'll often find yourself on the receiving end of that outrage. Though on the note of "politics", I've noticed that at least in my neck of the woods, most people don't talk about it outright.. But if the topic DOES come up, it's not usually argumentative. It's more like a casual discussion of 'here's my views, oh those are your views, these are why', and a passing of time. Then again, most of these incidents arose out of small talk while waiting on appointments and loitering around until the line moves on, not going out of your way to cram it down someone's throat. Big difference between the two.
Sad thing happened to my mom. She worked in the Hospital industry for years (before I was even born) doing mostly secretary work. At one point she was working in HR at a job she finally loved, but suddenly a California company buys the hospital and screws EVERYTHING up, resulting in my mom losing her job and bankrupting the hospital finally. It was aggravating to see so yeah I don't want any Californian company taking base here in Texas (we live near the San Antonio) if they're going to do stuff like that. On another note, it's interesting I remember people saying, "Texas use to be blue" and they be right, we use to be blue, HOWEVER, we've always been conservative because the Democratic party use to be conservative, but I think that started changing in the 80s I believe (correct me if I am wrong) because my parents turned Republican during that time and were staunch Reagan Supporters, who was conservative. Also, negotiations were first performed with the commander of the Mexican forces, Colonel Domingo de Ugartechea, who was a Federalist and was somewhat sympathetic to the Texan cause. This though, was mostly a delay tactic to give time for reinforcements to arrive in Gonzales.

It is an urban legend. All states can fly a state flag at the same height as the United States flag. However, if both flags are on the same flagpole, the U.S. flag code states that the United States flag must be on top.

I enjoyed watching this video. As a Texan, it's interesting to see others react to our history. My ancestor, James C. Neill, is the one who actually fired the first shot of the Texas Revolution. He is also the one who yelled out "Come and take it!" in response to the Mexican army. After that battle, he was placed in charge of the Alamo, but had to leave shortly before the siege commenced. He left Travis and Bowie in charge in his absence. He also fought at the Battle of San Jacinto, the final battle of the revolution. He was in charge of the Twin Sister cannons, but was injured during that battle.

Artur, as I relax with some tea in my Estonian TH-camr cup, let me fill some gaps in the video. Santa Ana was not only murderous, he was incompetent as a military commander. The Alamo was not a strategic target. Due to the low numbers of defenders, he could have split a small amount of soldiers to keep it contained and marched after Sam Houston, the real prize of the revolution. Defeating Houston's army would have ended the revolution. Instead, while Santa Ana wasted his time at the Alamo, Houston then had time to organize and recruit more men. As noted in the video, Santa Ana's execution of prisoners enraged the population and brought more people into Houston's army. The battle of San Jacinto was pretty much like the video describes. When Santa Ana was captured, he was supposedly dressed as a Private to avoid being identified, but when brought into camp, the other POW soldiers saluted him, giving away his identity. The other fun story about Santa Ana at San Jacinto was that as Sam Houston's army attacked in broad daylight, Santa Ana himself was enjoying, shall we say, the "attention" of a young lady in his tent. There is some question of whether this actually happened, but if you ever hear the song "The Yellow Rose of Texas", the "yellow rose" refers to her.
I was born in Texas but I lived my first years in Mexico. In Mexico they taught us that Texas was stolen in the most dishonest and disgraceful way, putting Santa Anna as a tragic hero, ignoring all signs of tyranny. When I moved to Texas, I learned about the Alamo and the Gonzalez cannon, and how by fire and blood took the land. I am glad you saw an unbiased pov video.

As a Texan (and history student) I'm a little disappointed at that, just because it's showing the progression of Texas history, not glorifying the Confederacy or racism. At The Alamo, the Mexican force lost something around 400 dead. That sounds pretty good, yeah? Sounds like the Texans were great fighters, and they were but here's the thing. The Texans killed maybe 100 people, 200 max. Where did the rest of the dead come from? Santa Anna ordered that his own injured soldiers be given no food, water, medicine or medical treatment, instead simply stripping them down and leaving them in the desert. Those who were heavily wounded were stripped of all their possessions and left to die where they lay. The Mexicans weren't even allowed to put them out of their misery. Putin wouldn't do that. Stalin didn't do that. Hitler didn't do that, especially not to his own men.

As a Texan, born and bred, I've been to the Alamo, I've been to Goliad (which is today a pretty small town with a museum commemorating the folks who were killed there), and just outside Houston I've been to the site of the Battle of San Jacinto several times, though not in years now. San Jacinto, where Texas won it's independence, was (last time I was there) kind of a non-descript very flat field. We were taught during 7th grade (mandatory Texas history year) that it was covered in reeds and tall grasses that allowed the Texas army to sneak up on the Mexican army in broad daylight, launching the ambush. And "annexation" as used in the video you watched would be better described as "granted statehood in the United States". Anyway, if you make it to Texas, all three sites can be reached with a two day trip, but I'd plan on a day at each site.
The Siege of the Alamo was 13 days long and when it actually fell it was more like 3,000 men against 100 men. Because of Texan people dying of wounds and starvation inside the Alamo. And Because of the 13 days of siege. Santa Anna had time to call up more troops.
The battle was on the last day - there were three charges by the Mexicans, the first 2 failed and the third they entered. The Mexicans had of course the disadvantage until they entered due to the high cost of breaching the walls. There were about 180-185 Alamo defenders. The Mexicans were also at a disadvantage as it was very difficult to supply such a large force in such a desolate place - which Texas was at that time.
No, annexed just means they were taken into the Union. In this instance, it was done peacefully because that’s what Texas wanted.
Hey Artur i am a Texan and I Would love to have you come down to Texas and visit some of the historical sights and eat real Texas BBQ and TexMex. It is unfortunate that many of the stereotypes of Texas are quite troubling, in the sense that despite what the "politics" may appear it is a very diverse and inclusive place and that many of the state-wide issues are reflective of US issues (rural-urban division in economics and voting patterns and power). It's just like how people speak - I find many people affect an accent - George Bush was a great example as he had his normal speaking voice and then he had that Panhandle voice that he could turn on and off.

The "Manifest' was based on the American Congress understanding that Europe was constantly at war because of too many neighbors sharing a space. So they understood that they were in a unique situation, being a New Country with only a few Neighbors, also new, and a lot of territory open to expansion. It's when you go out of your way, acting the fool and kicking up a ruckus that you start to annoy the Texan. We like the quiet, and the calm. And if you stir it up, and try to incite an outrage, you'll often find yourself on the receiving end of that outrage.
Though on the note of "politics", I've noticed that at least in my neck of the woods, most people don't talk about it outright.. But if the topic DOES come up, it's not usually argumentative. It's more like a casual discussion of 'here's my views, oh those are your views, these are why', and a passing of time. Then again, most of these incidents arose out of small talk while waiting on appointments and loitering around until the line moves on, not going out of your way to cram it down someone's throat. Big difference between the two.

Sad thing happened to my mom. She worked in the Hospital industry for years (before I was even born) doing mostly secretary work. At one point she was working in HR at a job she finally loved, but suddenly a California company buys the hospital and screws EVERYTHING up, resulting in my mom losing her job and bankrupting the hospital finally. It was aggravating to see so yeah I don't want any Californian company taking base here in Texas (we live near the San Antonio) if they're going to do stuff like that.
On another note, it's interesting I remember people saying, "Texas use to be blue" and they be right, we use to be blue, HOWEVER, we've always been conservative because the Democratic party use to be conservative, but I think that started changing in the 80s I believe (correct me if I am wrong) because my parents turned Republican during that time and were staunch Reagan Supporters, who was conservative.

Been waiting for Artur to do the Texas Revoution for a long time. My great great great grandfather, Andrew Zumwalt, fought in the battle of San Jacinto at age 19. I have the prototype Colt revolver (circa 1835) he used in the battle, as well as his sword and a few cannonballs he retrieved from the battlefield after the battle was over. They're all in a safety deposit box in Houston. I'll give them all to my son one day, Lord willing. My other relative, Andrew Kent, died at the Alamo. Every freaking boy in our entire family is named Andrew because of these two. If you're ever at the San Jacinto monument, his name is super easy to find. Literally the last one.

It is an urban legend. All states can fly a state flag at the same height as the United States flag. However, if both flags are on the same flagpole, the U.S. flag code states that the United States flag must be on top.

I enjoyed watching this video. As a Texan, it's interesting to see others react to our history. My ancestor, James C. Neill, is the one who actually fired the first shot of the Texas Revolution. He is also the one who yelled out "Come and take it!" in response to the Mexican army. After that battle, he was placed in charge of the Alamo, but had to leave shortly before the siege commenced. He left Travis and Bowie in charge in his absence. He also fought at the Battle of San Jacinto, the final battle of the revolution. He was in charge of the Twin Sister cannons, but was injured during that battle.
If I rember my US history correctly, 3 states were independent nations before going the US. The Lone star Republic of Texas, The kingdom of Hawaii, and the Bear Flag republic of California.

At the time there, that's only about a fourth the size of what Texas is now. By today's standard, Texas by itself takes up a good swathe of Europe. Also, we Texans are still very proudly defiant. Especially in the current political climate. With talks of taking away lawful gun ownership. we're very much on the "Come and take it" mentality still. Santa Ana was not only murderous, he was incompetent as a military commander. The Alamo was not a strategic target. Due to the low numbers of defenders, he could have split a small amount of soldiers to keep it contained and marched after Sam Houston, the real prize of the revolution. Defeating Houston's army would have ended the revolution. Instead, while Santa Ana wasted his time at the Alamo, Houston then had time to organize and recruit more men.
As noted in the video, Santa Ana's execution of prisoners enraged the population and brought more people into Houston's army.
The battle of San Jacinto was pretty much like the video describes. When Santa Ana was captured, he was supposedly dressed as a Private to avoid being identified, but when brought into camp, the other POW soldiers saluted him, giving away his identity. The other fun story about Santa Ana at San Jacinto was that as Sam Houston's army attacked in broad daylight, Santa Ana himself was enjoying, shall we say, the "attention" of a young lady in his tent. There is some question of whether this actually happened, but if you ever hear the song "The Yellow Rose of Texas", the "yellow rose" refers to her.

I was born in Texas but I lived my first years in Mexico. In Mexico they taught us that Texas was stolen in the most dishonest and disgraceful way, putting Santa Anna as a tragic hero, ignoring all signs of tyranny. When I moved to Texas, I learned about the Alamo and the Gonzalez cannon, and how by fire and blood took the land. I am glad you saw an unbiased pov video.
