    Truly beautiful. I am listening to this on my high-end headphones. The XD sounds stunning.

    • @FallingIslands

      Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Yes there really is a certain magic to the sound of the XD. The combination of analog and digital is executed really elegantly, and the open source oscillators and effects make it very unique.
      That said, I do have the Blofeld as well. It has a distinctly digital sound to it that's really pleasing to me as well. Just a really different approach and architecture overall that leads to different sonic results. :)

      I have a Blofeld and now I’m getting the XD....very excited! They’re quite different I think. Blofeld is dedicated wavetable/digital. XD is very interesting hybrid of analog-digital. I love them both and they each have a unique sound. They also can both do many things well. I want the XD because I need a poly analog but I also really like the digital customizable oscillator and effects. Also Blofeld has a nice Arp, but XD seems to have an easy to use Arp and sequencer. I’d say still get a Blofeld desktop if you can as 2nd hand is fairly inexpensive. Also it’s multitimbral which is an excellent addition. As an alternative to Blofeld the Argon 8 desktop seems to be an excellent wavetable. Although it’s about $100 more than XD and is monotimbral. Effects on Blofeld aren’t very good but the modulation options are excellent and it sounds great regardless.

    • @s3nsec0rruptr80
      @s3nsec0rruptr80 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FallingIslands ah, cathedral! I really enjoy the theatre reverb, but this didn't sound quite the same. I'm a mediocre keyboardist so I usually set velocity to 127 across the board, but this really shows the value of velocity sensitivity. The detuned saws and slow envelope sound right for the blade runner sound, but it's the subtleties and finesse that really make it. Sounds fantastic, thanks for letting us listen!

  • @DMC-mp9sx
    @DMC-mp9sx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Excellent song and example of this synth. Thank you. I chose XD module over Argon 8 and Hydrasynth. I realize the differences but was tempted by all 3. From demos, XD and Argon 8 had best sound and most immediate use imho. It was a tough decision. The customizable oscillator and effects on XD won me over as the synth is always ‘current.’ Also, it seemed to be the most immediate of the bunch and I like the straight forward note entry, arp & sequencer. I also wanted an analog poly, and I’m thinking of adding a 2nd XD for the polyphony. Wondering if adding a second XD increases the step sequencer to 32 step, lol? Probably not but would be great!

    • @FallingIslands
      @FallingIslands  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi there! Unfortunately it may be a little difficult for me to share the patch as I used the third party effects section. I do have a good idea of how to recreate it though. It's a relatively simple patch.
      All you have to do is set both analog oscillators to SAW, then detune the second oscillator by a very small amount (about +3cts). It has to be just enough such that Oscillator 2 "smears" against Oscillator 1, but doesn't chorus too much. Then just set the attack and release of both Envelopes to a really high value, and you should be good to go. Just apply reverb to taste. Hope this helps! :)

    Niceeeeeee. Which one would you choose over the other, the original or the xd?

    • @FallingIslands
      @FallingIslands  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If I had to only pick one, I would go with the XD, as it's analog / digital hybrid nature offers a lot more sonic possibilities! Not to mention the open-source oscillator and effects slots that really make it unlike any other synth in the same price range.
      The original Minilogue does have its own distinct sonic character though; definitely more "pure" analog, and I do find its filter to have some sweet spots that are harder to achieve on the XD, the latter having a more aggressive and buzzy 2-pole filter.
      The Ocean Beneath did a really fantastic side-by-side comparison video of the two synths, which you can watch here: th-cam.com/video/nsyPCqOt4nw/w-d-xo.html
      Hope this helps!:)

    • @FallingIslands
      @FallingIslands  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is awesome to hear! I've got some tips for Blade Runner/Vangelis-esque sounds. Generally, the way I make them is to simply put two sawtooth waveforms together and detune the second sawtooth till they start to "smudge" and phase against each other. I then give the sounds a slow attack and release for both the amplitude and filter cutoff to make them swell. The final step would be just to layer on copious amounts of reverb and delay. The internal effects in the minilogue xd should be plenty.
      Hope this helps!

    Can you loop on this? Or can you record and playback infinitely?

    • @FallingIslands
      @FallingIslands  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there! Yes, you can loop on this synth and have infinite overdubs (no undos though), but only if you install a looper plugin into the Minilogue XD's third-party effects slot. I don't actually use it in this specific video, but in several of my other videos, I make use of Roll-log Sounds LogLooper, which is a free logueSDK plugin built for the Korg Prologue, Minilogue XD, and NTS-1 synthesizers.
      You can find the link to Roll-log Sounds' LogLooper video here: th-cam.com/video/x5NVkUE8c30/w-d-xo.html
