As a hardcore fan from the very beginning with the first releases in 2009, I lately felt less surprised by tunes like Del Oro, Key103 or Grammar. Of course even Floating Points can't reinvent the wheel with every new track, but it felt like it was a certain recipe repeating with minor changes. Of course this is high level criticism, because those tunes still stand out, compared to so much other stuff. But this new song is, as I'm used to with Floating points, once again something completely new and surprising, where you have absolutely no idea what direction it's going in when you hear it. The subs that kick in in the middle to the tune, all those layers and an unexpected ending...is one of those productions I can get lost in for the next months! Thanks a lot for sharing this music Sam!
I think he might be exploring more sonic an sound design aspects rather than compositional structure or harmonic development. You can see this through his interviews where he metions his constant work in designing his set up, which now includes more modular synthesis rather than traditional synth work. This approach has it's own complexity and might be more related to sound engeneering and physical sound subtleties rather than a more traditional understanding of what musical composition should be (which comes from the XIX century). Dance music presents a perfect canvas for this type of sonic exploration due to it's repetitive nature, and emphasis on elements like transiets, sub frecuencies and modulation,(added to his proficency and knowledge in DJing and dance music digging). For a fine tuned ear (facilitated by HiFi audio systems), this explorations can become as impressive as harmonic complexities fundamental to records like Promises and his full-band work. Ocotillo seems to merge his well known compositional capacities with this new sonic inquiries.
I am speechless. holy shit this is heavy, beautiful, so incredibly good. I'm laughing at my computer at work because my brain sort of can't comprehend something being this superb. this is taking me to a whole other galaxy in my tingly brain. Floating points just keeps getting better and better.
This piece came to me by chance and guided me on a journey inward from the outer world. As Yoshimura's nuances intensified, I found myself immersed in a layered exploration of the unconscious. It felt as if I were within a psychoanalytic study. Thanks,
lovely the way this floats from classic organic synth & ends up like modern techno. Beautiful, absorbing visual too: brilliantly matching the audio. Look forward to the full album.
First time listening and this was beautiful! I think many of you here would enjoy the music of Cristobal Tapia de Veer. My suggestions are "V Day Baby" and "To You All Kids Will Come..." from the Utopia soundtrack.
idk what to say about this. the subtle changes to the encroaching ostinato lead the listener crying out for something. Maybe it's a realization? the slow transition into that dub techno-y bit at the end and all the little bits of noise feel so self destructive to me when I listen , but I realized they are like the spikes along the ocotillo's stem. They are protective.
Can you explain what you have on that plucky lead that comes in at 4:03 and how it cuts out like a gate is on it? But it kinda glitches too. Great tune thanks for sharing
Pretty sure it's just a rhythmic gate! If you're looking for a (free) plugin which does it, kHs Trance Gate should do the job. Or you could use an actual noise gate with a side-chain input, that would give you more control over the actual rhythm. Hope that helps
Sounds like a digital hummingbird, frantically searching for that bass nectar.
Hey! This comment is wonderful. Are you an author? If not, maybe you should write a book or poetry.
@@TheBestDJ-j1v I really appreciate the compliment. I am not an author, but dabble with poetry once something strikes my interest.
How beautifully described, thank you ❤
this is like if steve reich made bangers, incredible
that was my first thought as well, fucking amazing stuff
Desert Music is a complete banger 😌
If I'm under any dopamine enhancing substance this song is beyond sublime.
This song is something else. Mesmerizing.
@6:51 so in love with this glitched out dub siren! What a bold move!
I don't even hesitate to hit the like button when I see a new Floating Points track. I already know it's gonna be good.
I feel Tangerine Dream vibes here. Sounds good!
I thought the same, I can definitely hear elements of Phaedra come in at 1:01
Klauz Schulz
what an absolutely beautiful song.

Agreed, while i liked the classic electro exploration with a floaty twist, i must say we're getting back into the "thick" of it !
Похоже же на K&G Beat. Что тебе ещё надо?
@@MOHMOPEHCN в каком месте это похоже на K&G Beat с его heavy burial inspired грувом? 😂 может оно еще и на falaise вам похоже из-за стебов?
Key103 is a masterpiece!

Before I knew it, I was practically dancing in my chair. He can't keep getting away with this.
Most inspired auditory visual artwork I’ve seen all year .
Pure art ! ❤
Merci ☁
It makes me think of the watercolour action, the way pigments are attracted to water to form other colours is fascinating. Great work for this sound !
I see floating points listed and just hit "play & like" full stop😊❤❤❤

New Floating Pointssssssss!!!!!!
If I hosted a musical award ceremony, I would dub James Holden, Four Tet & Floating Points as king electronic music acts of history by thus far.
Legendary 🤯😄
The resurgence of DnB has triggered a new EDM renaissance. LET'S GO
SO RAW 🔥
this a fun track
Oh very nice, subbed and liked straight away!
Hits hard
🤕💙 stunning
ah yes, let my brain melt. Good shit
This reminds me of his earlier work "Sais" but way modern and less jazzy.
I wish the new record will have more newer sounds.
この曲本当に凄い。スティーブライヒにシンセを与えた感触がある。そのうえでシンセのADSRの可能性をバシバシ感じられるし。約9分あっという間。
Yeah!!!

What an artist, love the Minecraft sounding intro arp! 🔥
i think it gets little too chaotic at the end, still nice tune
Is this the way to Amari- Ocotillo?
The part with beats seems like Radiohead on steroids

I love it! But is this MONO on purpose?
I listened it on Apple Music and it's STEREO so it must be some kind of bug i guess
I hear some panning on the drums so stereo for me 🎧
definitely not mono mate ;)
No think click
wtf is this? unicorn semen?
longest intro ever... i don't care
Ends too soon, not a criticism I often feel inclined to make. Actually quite interesting music, not a compliment I often feel inclined to make.
WOW!!
