I always thought this was about a man at his wife's funeral. He wants the world to look the way he feels on the inside. "I see a line of cars, and they're all painted black. With flowers and my love both never to come back."
I’ve heard that…like the Beatles were the good and wholesome band & The Stones were, well to put it lightly Rebels. Until Morrison blew that theory out the water…singing Light My Fire as is on live tv😅no tame lyrics here for Ed Sullivan.
Agreed, The Beatles were the clean-cut, pop-friendly boy-band of the day (except for that "long hair") The Rolling Stones were cast as the bad-boys. S*x, drugs and rock'n'roll.
If my eyes are working properly that show was in Buenos Aires, which might explain the wild crowd - Argentinians *love* the Stones and in general they have the best crowds in the world. Small neighborhood bar or, as in this case, River Plate Stadium: an experience.
The name of the Don Knotts movie Smokey was referencing was/is "The Incredible Mr. Limpet", where Don falls into the harbor and is transformed into a fish, animated, and helps in the effort for the U.S. Navy in World War II. This concert footage is probably from The Rolling Stones show in Havana, Cuba, about 8-10 years ago. Pretty effing big. Got to see The Stones on the "Steel Wheels Tour", back in 1989 in Philadelphia.
As much as I love Stevie, if your criteria is body of work, then it's Mick. Easily. In fact, if body of work is the criteria, you can whittle this down pretty quickly.
The reason you didn't learn about the South Ocean is because it just recently became an Ocean. Antarctica used to have multiple Oceans surrounding it but since around Antarctica is like no other Ocean they decided to make it its own Ocean.
I remember back in the day I used to watch a war TV series that had this song as an intro, don't remember the show anymore but this song allways catches my ear 🙂
The best concert of my life! I was 15 in 81 and my mom took me to see them (my all time fav) with Santana and Iggy Pop! RIP Charlie! And p.s...Steven Tyler's mouth is bigger! lol
Joan Rivers had a skit where she claimed that Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler are the same person because you never see them together and there can’t be two people with lips that could french kiss a moose to death.
Iconic dude, iconic band! I think this song is one of the few stones songs thats made for listeners interpretation. Some see it as a funeral. Some see it as outcry for help. I have always seen this one as middle finger to radio stations and critics. Kinda going heavy lyrics(for that time) and darkness saying we are the stones and wemll sing weird stuff cuz we can, play it or else.
I'm gonna say my Big 4 of the British Invasion is Beatles, Stones, Zombies, and the Animals Honorable mentions: The Kinks, The Yardbirds, Deep Purple Also gotta get to You Can't Always Get What You Want, Beast of Burden, and if you want a sign of how times have changed, check out Under My Thumb and tell me if they could get away with that today
The movie is the " Incredible Mr. Limpet". I remember watching it while quite stoned in the 70s. I think that's why I thought it was great. This song is about him being in mourning over the loss of his love to death. He doesn't want to see happy colorful people. He is mourning so his " whole world is black".
You guys should review a recent live performance from Black Flag. Mike Vallely is doing an awesome job as frontman. He's in his 50s, I think the youngest member, and they are absolutely killing it!
You all need to do some dives into Kansas. Carry On Weyward Son, Play the Game Tonight, Point of Know Return, Dust In The Wind, Song For America, Hold On, just to mention a few.
The first top 20 hit for the Rolling Stones was "I wanna be your man" which was written by Lennon and McCartney, who gave it to them. No rivalry. In the early days before they all got busy they used to talk with each other. Have fun guys.
Good evening Gentlemen and all you others, as teenagers at school we all loved this song, even the NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK fans 😂. Rock and a lovestory with a tragic ending... 😢. The same time GUNS'N'ROSES with Novemberrain 😭 and the Doors. Treats for a melancholic 😩, philosophic 😑, know-it-all 😤 heart of a pubescent pimple face. 🤣 But the song is one of the big classic ones and the stones still rock! Greetings from Germany 🤗 and parkinson's sucks⚘ and EMPPU RULES 😎🤘 alex
One problem I see with this comparison is that all members of Fleetwood Mac sang lead on different songs. I love Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac, but it is tough for me to compare them to the Stones.
I feel you, Hollywood. I’m voting Stevie but I won’t be upset if Mick wins. If you haven’t heard “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking”, that’s my recommend for the next Rolling Stones song.
I am in the opposite camp. Love love love Stevie. But… even within Fleetwood Mac I was a Christine McVie fan. So I can’t vote for Stevie. But you can’t ask for a better frontman than Mick.
Nice t-shirt Hollywood! It's been a looong time since you did a Ghost-reaction, may we please get one soon? PS. I recommend the documentary My life as a Rolling Stone, not for a reaction but just because it's really good!
This concert footage reminds me why I saw them lucky 13x live!!😍 such a sublime show EVERY time!! I can't afford them anymore lol Someone tell Mick he can't take that money with him, and that I love him 🤣 ❤✌
White Room was by Cream, but you came close. I'm NOT a Stones fan, but they do have some that I like. This is one of them. I wouldn't exactly call the Beatles a "boy band". 🙄😆
Hey y’all, just wanted to recommend a couple songs from a relatively newer band in the progressive metal/TOOL scene called KOLM. The tracks are Aquarius Initiation (first track off of the album Umbra), the title track Umbra, and another called Entheotheosis. Three great songs from a group that obviously draws a lot of inspiration from TOOL and Dream Theater, especially the former. I’m pretty sure you can find them on Spotify and definitely on Apple Music. Hope you guys enjoy!
Please revisit Rush, the song Roll The Bones which you two will LOVE, also Bytor and the snow dog from Neil's first album with Rush, 1975, one of the first tunes Neil wrote for Rush, you GOTTA check it out You talk about Neil being Danny before Danny, you need to check out Neil's drum solo from Frankfurt Germany 2004, your minds will be blown!!
Mick Fleetwood from Fleetwood Mac has always wanted to join the Rolling Stones. Most bands as Metallica has opened for the Rolling Stones there is no bigger band.
Saw an interview with Mick Jagger and the idiot interviewer asked how he remembered the lyrics to all the songs. Jagger replied “Because I wrote the fucking things.” 😂😂
I love Stevie Nick's but when you talk of "front man" it's not just voice and body of work but it's showmanship. And Mick Jagger is the man when it comes to that
I’m going to clear the air here, guys. The Rolling Stones And Fleetwood Mac are among legendary classic rock bands of all time. There is no comparison because obviously these are two different rock bands. Even I have to go with the facts here as well that The Rolling Stones beats out Fleetwood Mac in terms of how many songs The Stones have recorded due to how many albums they made since 1963 up until 2016 releasing a new song, Doom and Gloom, because they haven’t released any new songs since then but they continue to tour and sell out everywhere they go. R.I.P. Charlie Watts, the drummer since day one. - Gene A.
To understand the breath of their music and evolution, I’d recommend listening to the double album Rolled Gold. They were contemporaneous with the Beatles, but it’s unfair to compare them. The Rolling Stones music is bluesy. The Beatles started as rock and roll and evolved into hippy-shit. Both are good for very different reasons.
The pop music media machine frequently pitted The Rolling Stones against The Beatles, but The Beatles were bigger. The Beatles compare with Motown. But The Rolling Stones were the greatest rock and roll band ever.
"in the white room with black curtains" i think are the lyrics smokey was thinking about and that is a song called white room by cream
My favorite Stones song. Long live the Rolling Stones. Rock on 🤘😎
I always thought this was about a man at his wife's funeral. He wants the world to look the way he feels on the inside.
"I see a line of cars, and they're all painted black. With flowers and my love both never to come back."
I always heard it was actually about the death of Jagger’s girlfriend.
This was a very popular Vietnam war protest song. They were viewed as expressing the sadness of the death and suffering from war.
@@stevedavis5704 This also was the theme song to the Vietnam show "Tour Of Duty."
That's exactly what it is about.
@@stevedavis5704 except it’s not what it’s about.
R.i.P. - Charlie Watts 🥁
When The Beatles and The Stones came out, the media fuelled a "rivalry" between the bands. Actually, they played together quite a few times.
I’ve heard that…like the Beatles were the good and wholesome band & The Stones were, well to put it lightly Rebels. Until Morrison blew that theory out the water…singing Light My Fire as is on live tv😅no tame lyrics here for Ed Sullivan.
the Beatles where good friends with the stones and even wrote them a song called I Wanna Be Your Man
Agreed, The Beatles were the clean-cut, pop-friendly boy-band of the day (except for that "long hair") The Rolling Stones were cast as the bad-boys. S*x, drugs and rock'n'roll.
+100 bonus points for mentioning the movie 'The Incredible Mr. Limpet' (1964) with Don Knots. What a strange movie, but hey, it was the 60's.
Shit. I called it magical mr limpet.
i have wondered what the name of this song was for so long.....omg!!
Sorry Hollywood, The Rolling Stones are gonna win by a Landslide 😂😂😂 get it 😂😂😂🤪 sorry I couldn’t resist
The cheese…so much cheese😂😂😂…love it!!!
You brought it down...
😆
They play this song at the end of "Devil's Advocate" one of my favorite movies!!!!

You gotta hear "honky tonk woman 🤟
Seen the stones 8x and there not my favorite band but there in my top 5. I will say they are excellent live. Fun to watch you guys.

to your point about the Rolling Stones vs Metallica...I saw the Stones Live in SF in 2004...Metallica was the opening act....
The Beatles opened the door, and the Stones kicked it off its hinges.
There's no generally accepted "southern ocean". That's . . . kinda weird.
