The bit where he’s talking to the Germans is a parody of old British World War 2 movies, particularly The Dam Busters (1955) where Germans are all very shouty and sound like Adolf Hitler. The Messerschmitt Bf109 was one of the more prolific fighter plane models in the Luftwaffe during the earlier part of WW2, especially around the time of the Battle of Britain. A lot of the other names of the Germans he mentions later in the sketch are also references to German WW2 planes, military equipment, etc. Whilst I believe that Al Murray is, himself, pretty-much fluent in German, what he's speaking here is actually what we'd call "Dinglish", which is a comedic, semi-nonsense mix of mostly German and some English, aimed at an English audience, and so most of the grammar and phrasing is English, just using predominantly German vocabulary (much of which he gets pretty spot-on here).
his character is the pub landlord (bar owner) not a schoolteacher although his knowledge of history and geography reflects that he studied at oxford university

Great video Fellas, Brit here, Al Murray a UK National Treasure! The black Labrador dog reference was from the 60s war film 'Battle Of Britain'. Its played everyday on some channel ;) A pilot's dog waits for his return which does not happen, the dog is called N888ga, its dubbed out these days. The NYC thing of being aggressive on the outside, soft in the centre most mirrors the London - Northerners (Manchester/Liverpool/Yorkshire/Scotland) relationship in the UK, This is a little comedy sketch: th-cam.com/video/PT0ay9u1gg4/w-d-xo.html bit of a giggle ;)
Guy Gibson's dog was a black Labrador called the letter after the letter M word. It got run over on the day they went out on their mission to smash up the German dams.
Actually the dog's owner did return but he was killed in a later bombing raid. The dog was run over and killed just outside the airfield gate before his master returned from the dambusters mission.
At 20:26, Mr Gladstone was Prime Minister of the UK from 1868 until 1894 (non-consecutive terms). The Corn Laws were repealed in 1846 & The Crimean War was fought between 1868 and 1894!

All of Al Murray is fantastic but this the best one because he puts so much effort into and gets the characters so large and interesting. The German is perfect and he makes it work in the act which takes real skill. He has a PHD in History and used to entertain his fellow students at university and built his act up from there.
great review but is that all New Yak swearing ? ha ha I was in Leeds (UK) with my Brooklyn business partner - when he was informed that any mining village in Yorkshire would knock "seven shades of shit" out of an NFL team without pads - he pondered it, then went to the "rest room"

@4:20 prices get set by the ongoing purchase and sale of a stock or other financial product. A buyer will make an offer for a block of stock at a certain price, and a seller will either take or refuse it. Opposite thing for the sellers. Those prices get ground into the price published by Dow Jones, etc. in real time.
When I moved to New York and tried to get a doctor, I called the office of the nearest family practitioner to where I lived on the upper West Side - the reaction of this doctor to me calling him (he didn't realise his number was on the internet) was almost exactly the one Al uses for the New York stock exchange. He was one of these guys who was cash only and only accepted new patients on the basis of a personal recommendation from existing patients.
This is the Pub Landlord, a character created by Al Murray. Half the joke is he’s poking fun at British stereotypes of how the Brits see different nationalities. The higher shares are worth obviously the more a company is worth, so to qualify for your company to sell shares it has to be a PLC in the U.K. (not sure what US equivalent is) so to sell shares on the stock market the company becomes owned by investors that could be based anywhere in the world. Major shareholders CONTROL a company is how global finance works
Stocks prices are a ticker. There will always be people wanting to buy or sell stocks for any given cent prices either side of the current prices. When you buy or sell, you eat through all the people right next to the price, then the next, then the next and get progressively further away from where you were. After the trade, the new buy/sell is immediately calculated by whoever is left as new waves of buy/sell orders get produced. So if a load of people buy a load of stocks, they communally eat through all the people selling at the current price, selling at prices cents above the current price (the next cheapest) and into the sellers selling at dollars above the current price. The next cheapest share is the new current price, which has just gone up. The inverse is true with people ever willing to automatically buy if a stock dips.
He speaks German as well as several other languages & got a degree from Oxford in history. The character is based on what he thinks a UK pub landlord is!🤣👍
That little Irish "are you sure you want to lend us money?" is gold.

ANOTHER TRUTH, THE IRISH DID BORROW A HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY, WHICH BOOSTED THEIR ECCONOMY, BUT IT COLAPSED WITH THE STOCK MARKET
