I think Smoky was right on with the lyrics. But if you go a little deeper, considering the 1965 context, society itself was frustrated with the status quo. A lot of people, especially poor people and the common folk/workers and racial minorities and women etc were unsatisfied. The sexual frustration probably stems from how uptight the media was in comparison to how free the common folk wanted to be. The hippie movement and the idea of "free love" would have been kicking off. So this song was a pretty good showcase of the zeitgeist of society, especially American society, at that time despite the band being English.
That riff came to Keith Richards in the middle of the night, he immediately recorded on a reel-to-reel he had in his room so he wouldn’t forget it in the morning
This is my dad’s favorite song. He had a little too much to drink at my sister’s wedding reception and kept yelling for the dj to play this song… the dude never played it. My dad was disappointed, broke a light fixture in the reception hall, my mom got pissed at him, it was a whole big thing lol. Good times though. That’s what this song reminds me of 😆
Way to go Stones and mom n dad, creating lasting memories for the kiddos😂 I love this kind of stuff! Thanks for sharing dear lady I could totally see this playing out in my head✌🌟💕🥂
To me Roger Daltrey is one of greatest frontnan of all time. Had to have great presence with Keith moon, Pete Townshend and John entwhistle in the band. Robert Plant from zep is another great front man
To Smokey: pay attention to the lyrics: " driving in the car trying this and trying that, trying to make some girl. " Some girl is not a girlfriend but a hook-up . You jumped to the wrong direction. This was 1965 when I graduated from high school. The Vietnam war was the biggest threat to every young man in the US. All 18 year old men were subject to the draft, tens of thousands died in Vietnam. Desegregation was also a big cloud over everyone. The British bands gave us something else to think about.
The Kinks guitarist Dave Davies is said to be the first to pioneer distortion after lkking the sound ghat camd out of his amp when the speaker was torn. Keith Richards used that distorted treatment on the guitar riff because he wanted it to sound like a brass instrument playing it but ended up going for the original recrdinv rather than getting in a brass ensemble
You didn't get the reference to the tv commercials? How "white ones your shirts can be" is referring to tv ads for laundry detergents which were ubiquitous in the day and the "cant be a man cause he doesn't smoke the same cigarettes" is a refence to tv ads dedicated to smoking and Marlboro ads in particular targeted masculinity in smoking their brand. Yes, commercial have changed since the 60's. And the sound was "The British Invasion".
The Beatles were actually bada++ early in their career in 1960 wearing leather jackets and greased hair, looking like Elvis... and they worked the scene hard playing rock n roll music from America that they loved... It was around 1962 when Brian Epstein became their manager and convinced them to adapt to a clean-cut image and wear matching suits onstage... They were not signed for years because the British music industry did not like their demos... but they did cut tracks w/ singer Tony Sheridan and the Beatles could play for sure. Eventually, they began working w/ producer George Martin who helped them craft a pop rock sound in the studio and when they debuted in 1963, the years The Beatles had spent playing live enhanced their reputation and they were rewarded w/ massive record sales unheard of by an unknown British band... By 1964, they had a #1 album in America. The Rolling Stones started as a cover band in London around 1962 and they were actually more 'proper' than The Beatles... But as Beatlemania was unleashed in 1964, the music industry wanted another band to sign and The Rolling Stones were next... They were portrayed as the 'bad boys' of rock n' roll, but it was purely an image... In reality, it was the Beatles who were the 'bad boys' but the image that they were marketed as was imperative to maintain for record sales and perception. The Rolling Stones were so meticulous that their drummer Charlie Watts made a point to be sharply dressed before he made public appearances or got on the drum kit, but they band was eventually mired w/ drugs and alcohol by the mid-60's... Guitarist Brian Jones, the band's 'bad boy', left the band in 1968 and was tragically found drowned in his swimming pool in 1969.
I was still 11 when this came out in '65 and I loved it. I put the single on my record player and played it 20 times in a row every day! (Sorry Mom) peace
"Satisfaction" was covered by many, many bands. One of the best, and a favorite of Mr. Mick Jagger, who wrote it, is by the band DEVO. It was even covered by the Grateful Dead, but only live, not on any albums.
WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!! STONES!!! LOVE this song - they ALWAYS put on a GREAT LIVE SHOW!!! I also enjoyed DEVO's version of this song from the 80s....FUN!! YA'LL ENJOY!!! HUGS!!!
The first song using a fuzz box if I'm not mistaken. Keith initially thought of it as a horn line, but the new box was hanging about and he thought why not try it out?! You want to have a listen to '19th Nervous Breakdown', 'Mother's Little Helper', 'Have You Seen Your Mother Baby...?', 'Street Fighting Man' and 'C....Blues'. 😉🤙🏼🎶❤️✨️🕊 😊
The Stones were very middle class and the Beatles were all working class, the Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham got them to dress rough and act up to be against the neat, polite behavior of the Beatles (created by Brian Epstein)
I think Link Wray was the ad boy of rock. He did an instrumental song that was banned. Neither the Stones nor the Kinks ever had a song that was banned in the U.S. Rumble was released in 1958 predating The Stones and The Kinks. Also Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent had a sort of dangerous quality to them. Then you had the preBeatles west coast Garage bands that were hard hitting and aggressive like the Sonics. The Sonics cover of Louie Louie is more harder than Satisfaction could hope to be.
points for picking up on the fact that this is an ANGRY and FRUSTRATED song. satire of the contradictions between real reality and the screwy advertising-created reality of the time. interesting that bill wyman and brian jones are largely cut out of this video. (keith richards tells the story that he kept a tape recorder by his bed to capture song ideas. he heard the opening riff in his sleep, woke up enough to put it down, and went back to sleep...the rest of the tape is 45 minutes of him snoring...)
I think smoking nailed at a 100 %that they were the precursor to heavy metal music as we know it today. Fin fact I bet all modern heavy metal bands like or liked this band. And was influenced by this band to get into music.😊❤🎉
One time the guys dorm in the quad at college played this out the window at full volume. The girls dorm responded with “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”.
Both Stones and Beatles early on were super influenced by R&B and Motown (covering Motown and early black artists like Chuck Berry). If you check out one of the first Stones albums, Out of Our Heads, they cover a bunch of R&B material. I think that influence helped loosen up Rock and Roll (along with the psychadelic 60s, later)
The Who started about the same time as the Stones and they were definitely the bad boys of rock. They played louder than anyone and destroyed the stage at the end of the show. Pete Townsend was probably the first guy to smash a guitar on stage. That became a staple throughout the 70s and 80s rock and metal shows.
It was The Kinks- They were way crunchier before anyone else. They started the "hardness" and contemporaries of the early Beatles and the early Stones. The Who, and the rest of those guys came a little later.
No mention of the foundation of the Stones is American blues. They worshipped the black artists Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson etc… but with a rock and roll bad boy vibe. Then, like the Beatles, the continued to morph through every era of their music. The brilliance of Let it Bleed and Sticky Fingers but then they continue to push boundaries and can still Stick it in your face. Stones are solid
If you haven't heard Sympathy for the Devil that would be my suggestion. If you have, perhaps you have not heard Honky Tonk Woman. Fascinating fact about Honky Tonk Woman. It was never on an album. It was released as a single. Used to be played on the radio all the time too.
Great song... paint it black is another great song...Brian Jones who founded the band died under mysterious circumstances (possibly murdered) after kicked out of the band
@matthewdrake4385 the death was considered suspicious and construction worker/ handy man was considered involved in his death. In 2009 his death was reviewed as new evidence came to light but not enough to reopen the case
There was a comedy radio clip of updated rolling stones songs: "Under my gums,is some supergrip Polydent holdin' up my teeth! " "I need a little pill to ease my aching back!"
on the topic of Steven Tyler and Mick Jagger having big lips; there's an Aerosmith song with the lyric "Don't give me no lip, I've got enough of my own."😄
The Kinks - I'm Not Like Everybody Else released 1966 many consider the start of punk. Either way when you talk about guitar sounds from the 60s you have to throw The Kinks in with the rest of the bands mentioned.
I'd like you to do Atlanta rhythm section had tons of hits in the 70s spooky so into you imaginary lover Champaign jam were s oul rock with lots of rb soul into it
Did you just call the Stones one of the original "Boy Bands"?!! Give me a break. BAD BOYS, maybe, but nothing like those cheesy harmonizing vocal groups of the 80s & 90s that the term "boy bands" referred to.
This spoke to every teenager in the 60's. All felt frustrated, they could get NO Satisfaction.

The Stones and the Animals were one of the first well known scream-bands / blues/rock.
Their tune, Angie is haunting.
Agreed...Tori Amos covers it, beautiful!

We were a frustrated youth, the powers that be had a very tight grip on our lives and this song just let us vent to a great dance beat ☮️
Ruby Tuesday would be a good one for next one. Happy to see more Rolling Stones on the channel.
Yup another good song
Yes!
This came out the summer of 65 when I was 12 years old -still have clear memories of walking to the town pool listening to this-good times
Not many reaction videos are Rolling Stones , not sure why ,one of the biggest bands of all time
Mick had heart valve surgery,a few years ago,and was up walking in 3 days.
He was back dancing in rehearsal in 3 weeks!
I saw them live just 4 months later and you never would’ve know it. Amazing show!
I was born in 1965 and discovered the Stones in 1979 with Miss You.

Wild horses is great song
Great reaction guys! A couple other greats from about that time to check out are Get Off My Cloud and Time is on My Side.

Guitar sound was "Fuzztone" pedal.
Do more Rolling Stones please!!!
Well, I think The Beatles did a song that The Rolling Stones probably wished they'd done and that is "Helter Skelter".
The Stones were basically the anti - Beatles.
The original bad boys of rock.
Kinks too
The Stones were very middle class and the Beatles were all working class, the Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham got them to dress rough and act up to be against the neat, polite behavior of the Beatles (created by Brian Epstein)

POV - The folks that grew up with this music are grandparents now. Great time to be alive!!
The anthem of a very disaffected generation which is much beloved to this day.
Some are still looking for Satisfaction.
Reading, I climb into a good book and time flies by
Seriously? The line is Girl Reaction? My Lord, I always thought it was Girlie Action.- hence “no satisfaction.” Lmao.
I think that may have been the original line!....this is a cleaned-up version of the song.

The term 'heavy metal' was coined in Steppenwolf's Born to Be Wild ("heavy metal Thunder") from that very era ! 🤘✌

The drum beat never changing is a genius production idea. The 60s guitar sound you mentioned are from "really distorted amps". Not a pedal effect.
P.s.i seen the Stones .and i couldn't take my eyes off Mick!!!
