Beating Pokemon Platinum with only Porygon could be interesting. It has a pretty diverse movepool to play around with, and it's not a Pokemon you see much of due to its mediocrity
@@alexanderforbes8553 To be fair, it doesn't learn hype beam by level up (so you won't be able to get it by TM until later in the game), and besides its 85 special attack, its other stats range from 40 to 75. Yes, I would say it's pretty mediocre by itself.

For your next run, I would suggest Pokemon Platinum with a team of one of each of the Wormadam. I wanna do this in Brilliant Diamond once it gets released, so it might be cool seeing you do it in Gen4
Sounds interesting. The only differences between the 3 Wormadams is typing (Grass/Bug, Ground/Bug, & Steel/Bug for each form) and 2 unique moves for each. The mains issue I see in the run is Cyrus, Steel/Ice gyms, and rival battles against Barry. Cynthia would also be tough, but that's because she's Cynthia. Fantina might also be hard if Mah-Dry-Bread doesn't get Trash Cloak in Gardenia's Gym or Fantina's Gym.

Deerling are adorable I started playing Pokemon go beginning of October last year and for some reason I have the final form of three of the forms I have not even seen a winter but every other form of caught hundreds
Luckily it's a normal type who is very useful for almost any kind of playthrough. That being said this thing will struggle a lot against slow shauntal's chandelure, although luckily that thing learns shadow ball somehow, dweeble is part rock and Derrling isn't that weak

If the run was done in Diamond/Pearl the Flint fight would be a much smaller roadblock... Actually so would Aarron since half his mons in DP are early game bugs like Beautifly. While in Platinum his mons have better coverage and typings.
Lmao. I usually have these Pokémon challenge videos in the background when I wake up on Sundays, and I was so surprised to hear 'Dragon Trainer Karen' and I had to rewind and pay attention to the video to double check - and I saw the hilarious edit pointing out the error. MDB never disappoints.
I suggest a Red/Blue run with only Magmar. If you look at its move list you’ll understand why. If you want throw in no Tms for added challenge I’m pretty sure magmar would have one of the highest base stat totals for a mon in a single run that you’ve done so far.

Yeah it apparently works even thru conditions that make you psuedo-invulnerable, like Fly and Dig. Only thing it doesn't work with I think is like Protect and Detect

3:20 - I want to point out that both are attack based since it's Gen 2, and not Gen 4. Physical/special split starts in Gen 4, and all ground moves before that are physical.
After doing a similar challenge myself last year, it was interesting to hear a different interpretation and some new strategies. I was nervous about losing Dig, so I wasted all my PP except for Mud Slap and then used Struggle to beat Morty. As usual, it's a great video, and I've gotta give credit where it's due. =)

I love that you're doing Giovanni's team. He's "the greatest pokemon trainer". So I did a run with his team and spoiler he is trash 😂 Doing his yellow team is a little more exciting.
Little advice about stab and super effective move: mankeys crosschop deals 150bp against neutral targets. The elemental punches deal against 2x effective targets 150bp too and against 4x 300bp. So against red's blastoise is crosschop ALWAYS the better move. Against something like water onix looks thunder punch better, but look at mankeys stats and water onix resistance you will see even against this target crosschop should deal more damage then thunder punch. This would make some fights way easier :)
Its always fun to see what parts are actually easy or challenging with some pokemon compared to most. Mankey run was overall a sweep but man this guy had more luck than most of the pokemon you run with.
In gen 2 all ground attacks use physical attack. The split of each move individually being special or physical didn't happen until gen 4, so there's no benefit between dig and mud slap in that regard. Glad I could help with the algorithm.
I have a challenge for you. Red/Blue/Yellow but with the following stipulations. 1: No catching or trades (almost, see rule 3), so can only use gifted or bought pokemon 2: No wild fights. You must run from all wild battles, meaning the only experience you can get is from Trainer battles 3: Once you have the Master Ball, you may catch one Snorlax (the game is unwinnable without beating at least one I believe) 3a: IF you can get around Snorlax without beating it and earning experience, then you can use the Master Ball to catch one other Pokemon of your choice. 4: Items are allowed but extra Pokemon Street Cred if you can do this without. Good luck 😎
Giovannis team: ok not that bad and moves: why do you do this to yourself? That certainly sounds like, if anything, it will be fun to watch! As for this run it went easier than I would have thought on the Johto side. Still I wonder how much easier it would be to do in HG/SS since I believe the elemental punches are physical moves at that point.
Not really a challenge run as such, but I did once tackle violet city with only johto pokemon. After beating said gym with a quilava, noctowl, furret and ledian for reasons I'm not quite sure of, called it a day. Love the D Bryan reference by the way.
You should use Guard Specs in the Giovanni run; he uses them all the time and the item itself is almost never used by anyone else in any context. It could finally have its day in the sun, and I doubt that it would be overpowered.
But u can’t delete HMs, so Cut is a dead slot, all are physical so Surf sucks, Strength is just ok, and that leaves 1 slot. Maybe he can use TMs creatively for this. Teaching Psychic for Agatha, Ice Beam for Lance, Thunderbolt for Lorelei, and having Psychic for Bruno. I’m also assuming that 1 of these Pokémon can learn psychic, Ice beam, thunderbolt, and is able to defeat the champion. This is almost like a 1 or 2 move challenge.

Mankey can use Thunder by rolling on the carpet and building up static in it's fur until it builds up so much that it unleashes a massive discharge on the first thing it touches.

@@sonicboom2468 But the power of Cross Chop is halved as Espeon resists it (while getting a 1.5x STAB boost). So Cross Chop would do about 75 power worth of damage while Return would still do 102 power. With Espeon's health range, it would've KO'd it

Hey! I hate to be that guy, but at 3:30 you said that Dig was the better option because it'll go off of Attack rather than Special Attack, but that's not true in Gen II. Both moves were Physical since Ground is a physical type in Gens I-IIl. Dig is still the better option, but I wanted to clarify that. Great video as always!
I haven't suggested this one in a bit, but I think Rhyhorn or Aron in pokemon Emerald could be interesting. They both actually have great defense and good attack. the main downside is their speed and special stats are low. Rhyhorn gets a ground move far later than Aron gets a steel move though, and rock slide is post game. at least there's rock tomb and rollout though
3:30 - Remember that this game predates the Special/Physical split. Mud-Slap is Ground so it still uses Attack in this game, the damage is just that bad.

Maybe gen 4 only using phione. Is weak base stat and terrible level up moves would be a challenge. It also would allow for more gen 4 challenges, that would be enjoyable for a change in pace. Also with hen 4 rereleased coming up might help the channel putting out gen 4 challenges at the same time.
I heard you mention using sp attack when using mud slap. Physical and special moves are determined by type in gens 1-3. Think of it this way: if a move has the same type as an eeveelution (not including eevee itself.) its special. All others are physical.
Question for may dry bread: In any of these challenges where you can only use form 1 or form 2 Pokemon, have you ever had a time where you've gr grinding for hours only to accidentally let the Pokemon evolve wiping out all of your grinding? When I'm playing casually that will happen when I'm trying to learn a specific move before evolving but I get distracted and accidentally let the Pokemon evolve.

In Generation 2 all status effects have a 64/256 chance miss chance before accuracy checks are made, so there is a 64/256 chance chance for things with 100 Accuracy like Thunder wave to miss.

Suggestion is a copy-pasta, will stop if requested however. Notes on this video: Mankey was one of those pokemon I usually overlooked until I felt I had to use it during a Nuzlocke. It's surprisingly good, despite some fragility. Used it more than the machop line for sure. Looking forward to the giovanni team challenge!) The Team Rocket Challenge. You can only use the pokemon Jesse and James used in each generation of the anime. For example, in RBY/FR/LG, you can only use Meowth, Ekans-Arbok, Koffing-Weezing, Weepingbell-Victreebell, and Lickitung (there may be some argument for others, but I think they'd be less fun.) Your usual challenge rules stay in play: no items in battle, can only use these guys in battle, no glitches or exploits, can use HM mules. Additional rules: For every gym leader or notable fight, your levels can only be as high as the enemies lowest level enemy. Team Rocket always has a disadvantage. And of course, Meowth cannot evolve. You can do this for other generations as well, though gen 2 and beyond (excluding black and white), you'll ALWAYS have a wobbuffet.

Interesting thing about Miltank is that it has 100 base Speed. Rayquaza's is only 95. A COW is faster than a space dragon. Great Pokemon logic.

A unique challenge. Beating any game with just superfang. You can use a variety of pokemon for defense allowing for fun teams.
You can never finish a Pokémon with Super Fang until the last PP so you have to heal after every mid battle fight which isn't possible.
Also needs to be after generation 4 because before that it was the signature move of the Rattata line
And also you can't hit Ghost types. So you need Struggle to beat Ghost types

Wow MDB Mankey really had to struggle in this challenge! It ended up winning with an inch of luck! That was fun, thank you MDB!
Its always fun to see what parts are actually easy or challenging with some pokemon compared to most.
Mankey run was overall a sweep but man this guy had more luck than most of the pokemon you run with.
In gen 2 all ground attacks use physical attack. The split of each move individually being special or physical didn't happen until gen 4, so there's no benefit between dig and mud slap in that regard. Glad I could help with the algorithm.

Fighting types with the elemental punches got so much better with the physical/special split

I have a challenge for you. Red/Blue/Yellow but with the following stipulations.
1: No catching or trades (almost, see rule 3), so can only use gifted or bought pokemon
2: No wild fights. You must run from all wild battles, meaning the only experience you can get is from Trainer battles
3: Once you have the Master Ball, you may catch one Snorlax (the game is unwinnable without beating at least one I believe)
3a: IF you can get around Snorlax without beating it and earning experience, then you can use the Master Ball to catch one other Pokemon of your choice.
4: Items are allowed but extra Pokemon Street Cred if you can do this without.

As for this run it went easier than I would have thought on the Johto side. Still I wonder how much easier it would be to do in HG/SS since I believe the elemental punches are physical moves at that point.
Not really a challenge run as such, but I did once tackle violet city with only johto pokemon. After beating said gym with a quilava, noctowl, furret and ledian for reasons I'm not quite sure of, called it a day.

You should use Guard Specs in the Giovanni run; he uses them all the time and the item itself is almost never used by anyone else in any context. It could finally have its day in the sun, and I doubt that it would be overpowered.

Pokémon challenge: gen 1 only one Pokémon, no HM Pokémon. Krabby, kingler and likitung can learn all three required hms.
But u can’t delete HMs, so Cut is a dead slot, all are physical so Surf sucks, Strength is just ok, and that leaves 1 slot. Maybe he can use TMs creatively for this. Teaching Psychic for Agatha, Ice Beam for Lance, Thunderbolt for Lorelei, and having Psychic for Bruno. I’m also assuming that 1 of these Pokémon can learn psychic, Ice beam, thunderbolt, and is able to defeat the champion. This is almost like a 1 or 2 move challenge.
I think gen 3 with crawdaunt would be better

Mankey can use Thunder by rolling on the carpet and building up static in it's fur until it builds up so much that it unleashes a massive discharge on the first thing it touches.
3:34 all ground moves were physical before gen 4 so mud slap would be using mankeys physical attack

Probably not since return isn’t STAB unlike Cross Chop
which in turn have Cross Chop do more damage then return
@@sonicboom2468 But the power of Cross Chop is halved as Espeon resists it (while getting a 1.5x STAB boost). So Cross Chop would do about 75 power worth of damage while Return would still do 102 power. With Espeon's health range, it would've KO'd it
@@zufar7619 didn’t fully realized it but in the end while return would be strong against Espeon it would of been useless against Snorlax so it works out
Hey! I hate to be that guy, but at 3:30 you said that Dig was the better option because it'll go off of Attack rather than Special Attack, but that's not true in Gen II. Both moves were Physical since Ground is a physical type in Gens I-IIl. Dig is still the better option, but I wanted to clarify that. Great video as always!

I haven't suggested this one in a bit, but I think Rhyhorn or Aron in pokemon Emerald could be interesting.
They both actually have great defense and good attack. the main downside is their speed and special stats are low.
Rhyhorn gets a ground move far later than Aron gets a steel move though, and rock slide is post game. at least there's rock tomb and rollout though

3:30 - Remember that this game predates the Special/Physical split. Mud-Slap is Ground so it still uses Attack in this game, the damage is just that bad.

@@MahDryBread That's just how it seemed to me, since it was replacing Mud Slap and Ice Punch wasn't in its movepool yet in the previous shot; Mankey didn't have any Special moves at that point.

Maybe gen 4 only using phione. Is weak base stat and terrible level up moves would be a challenge. It also would allow for more gen 4 challenges, that would be enjoyable for a change in pace. Also with hen 4 rereleased coming up might help the channel putting out gen 4 challenges at the same time.

I heard you mention using sp attack when using mud slap. Physical and special moves are determined by type in gens 1-3. Think of it this way: if a move has the same type as an eeveelution (not including eevee itself.) its special. All others are physical.

Question for may dry bread: In any of these challenges where you can only use form 1 or form 2 Pokemon, have you ever had a time where you've gr grinding for hours only to accidentally let the Pokemon evolve wiping out all of your grinding? When I'm playing casually that will happen when I'm trying to learn a specific move before evolving but I get distracted and accidentally let the Pokemon evolve.

3:30 Mud Slap is still physical in Gen2. The physical/special split isn't until Gen4. But Mud Slap's power is only 20, so Dig is a huge upgrade.

In Generation 2 all status effects have a 64/256 chance miss chance before accuracy checks are made,
so there is a 64/256 chance chance for things with 100 Accuracy like Thunder wave to miss.

The Team Rocket Challenge.
You can only use the pokemon Jesse and James used in each generation of the anime.
For example, in RBY/FR/LG, you can only use Meowth, Ekans-Arbok, Koffing-Weezing, Weepingbell-Victreebell, and Lickitung (there may be some argument for others, but I think they'd be less fun.)
Your usual challenge rules stay in play: no items in battle, can only use these guys in battle, no glitches or exploits, can use HM mules.
Additional rules: For every gym leader or notable fight, your levels can only be as high as the enemies lowest level enemy. Team Rocket always has a disadvantage. And of course, Meowth cannot evolve.
You can do this for other generations as well, though gen 2 and beyond (excluding black and white), you'll ALWAYS have a wobbuffet.
Octillery only; Preferably Gen 5, though in the end its your choice.
