Great video! How did the CPAs feel about you not having prior experience? Would you mind sharing a bit about how you explained your training and background to give validation to your skills without being able to reference past job experience in accounting?
Great question! I was very transparent and explained what I felt comfortable doing (clean up work primarily and working with solopreneur start ups). This didn't phase the CPAs at all honestly. It worked in my favor because I fell in love with working with start ups AND most accountants DON'T want to work with start ups because there's way more hand holding involved. I don't mind being in the trenches with the client especially when I've had clients that came to me as start ups that now do over 6 figures! 😊 It's very rewarding, but all in all, some accountants might be rude about the lack of experience, but most understood where I was at and saw how it worked in their favor as well!
Hi Jess, I find your videos extremely helpful! I’ve been wondering about the liabilities part of being a bookkeeper. Does Bookkeeper Launch explain the liabilities and how to avoid them all? Is there an insurance that protects the bookkeeper? Can you please let me know or point me to a video if you already made one on this topic? :)

Short answer is yes bookkeeper launch goes over how to protect yourself like never having access to passwords, funds, never write checks for your clients, get Error and Omission insurance, etc. it can seem a bit overwhelming at first but a lot of it is common sense to be honest and having an attorney create your contract 👍🏻 that video will help a lot!
My lawyer drafted my bookkeeping contract! Highly recommend using a lawyer (it's not that expensive or scary) there's so many small business specific lawyers that do this type of thing every day!

Honestly, talking to people and just getting out of your comfort zone is like 90% of what a new coach does in the beginning! 👍🏻
