Hey Baron, will you ever do a episode on IRL heists that might have inspired Rockstar? For example, the millennium diamond heist (London, 2000), has a team of robbers use a bulldozer as a tank to steal valuables, and plan, as well as fail, to use a boat to get away (Similar to the Paleto Bay Heist). There's a great documentary on the Metropolitan Police's solving of the crime before it happens on TH-cam.
I love how this guy is so positive about it all. Like "it's a good idea but unfortunately it doesn't work, but it's always worth looking into that sort of thing".

(I posted this on your full speedrun video) That Z Type mission at around the 3 hour mark, that is actually something that happened. Not like in the game but in real life the Z Type is based off one of the most valuable cars on Earth, the Bugatti Atlantic Type 57sc. The story goes, there were 3 built and during WW2 I think it was, the black Bugatti was being transported across Europe on a train. People say the train was bombed or someone stole the Bugatti. But it has never been found, or what's left of it. It's a crazy story for a crazy car. But considering the Z Type in the game is black in the mission and it's stolen I think? But yeah thought it might be cool to know another easter egg I guess in the game.

12:30 I think it would be a very cool attention to detail. I want Rockstar to focus on stuff like that as well. In life you look at the light in the game they should've made it so that if someone knocks over the light poles and the stop signs all the A.I. just drive erratically.
I know I'm late to the game but what a wonderful concept for a speedrun video. Keeps the concepts for the unsuccessful alive and cleanly shows where the don't fit. But the idea might resurface. Great set of videos as well in support of GTA running too!

I hope you talk about the strat I suggested a while ago in Fresh Meat, where you drive away while the enemies get in the getaway car you didn't pick and then blow it up with a sticky (blowing it up before doesn't work, they'll just respawn), and why that strat isn't as effective as the one being used right now.
im actually 99% sure i covered that in another video - you have a chance of getting cops if you use explosives, so the half a second timesave just isnt worth it. maybe i didnt though, but i talk about it on my stream often

About iFruit app - I don't know like other platforms, on PS3 from few months to install iFruit car upgrades, you still need to go LS customs and apply them.
At 4:00 - why not just drive more to the right side with the tow-truck and made a wide turn - that way you will still get some acceleration, and not hit Tonya.
After Scouting the Port you can leave with a tow truck and bring it to Trevor’s condo you can then get masks in blitz play and drive back in the tow truck

i think most speedrunners try to be like that to new ideas. usually only 1/10 ideas work, but i did want to make extra effort to encourage people to not feel discouraged when stuff doesn't work out

I think I found a new strat where you break in Michaels house where you go round the back of the house and climb the pillar to get behind the truck please notify other runners and use this as it could help PS I wanna be a runner thx.

Speedrun is not about just one category, and just by watching an 100% run you would already aknowledge some of the strats that differ from classic% (like using Tonya's tow truck or never upgrading your vehicle) Besides from that, great video. Is it possible to speed up the janitor in mission 50/61 by doing a burnout next to him? Because normal npc's speed off when you do this next to them at a red light.
good thought, but no, he's not affected by the player like that (nor pushing a car into him, for example, which also normally would make an NPC speed off)

I’m confused, I thought the tow truck spawned at the lot once the first Tonya mission was done? Or does it force start those missions if you get in? Also the Prius making the semi truck bounce almost as high as than Arena war vehicles made me crack up. Should’ve put a comical *boing* sound in there. Maybe the super Mario world spring or something
FriendlyBaron maybe useful in a 100% run? Not sure. That’s probably been considered, though it’s about as close as the broken down car so probably not worth it, unless you bend parts of the run around it or just complete one of her missions right then.
I have personally not done them - they are in the 100% speedrun though, nothing super special, mostly just placing sticky bombs where the person will spawn and sometimes stealing a vehicle early from what i remember, but give the 100% run a watch if you are extra curious
About warping Tonya into the tow truck. Now you showed how you slowed down before the intersection as to not go out of range and "abandon" Tonya, resulting in the need to accelerate again. What if you take it slow driving away, and then speed up, so you're driving at full speed when Tonya warps into the tow truck when you are about to be out of range?
good thought but likely no. been awhile since i worked with this, but, your only gonna be saving half a second or so by not slowing down as much at these low speeds, when the strat already lost 1.5 seconds, so it's still gonna be slower. there are sections in other missions where we do try to maintain a lower speed right until the "edge" of something in a similar way that do work
10:49 So, four years later, I think I have an explanation for WHY the bomb strat doesn't work. Rockstar, of course, contains several game designers who hate freedom in their "carefully-crafted cinematic missions", and want you to shoot the guy, as the voice lines suggest with a "vantage point". So of course, the game checks if he's in your line of sight when he dies, and if he isn't, the game fails you as an oozing pile of meat somehow gets away alive, despite being literally killed a fraction of a second ago. Sloppy coding also results in the aforementioned softlock, which I imagine wouldn't happen if Rockstar wasn't a whiny baby about how it wants us to use a sniper rifle instead of the clearly superior bomb option that actual assassins will actually use in actual life. There **is** a silver lining, though: Due to how the check is coded, it doesn't matter *what* you use to kill him, only that you have line of sight to him when he dies, so sticky and/or prox bombs still work, at least in a casual sense; it's up in the air whether or not this is useful, or at least lowers the skill floor for speedrunning as you don't need to worry about aiming. I've used bombs in this mission before, it just doesn't want to lend itself well to speedrunning cuz "Muh sniper rifle".
There should be a mod category. Everyone downloads an agreed trainer and jusy do whatever you want. I wanna see what ridiculous routing no gravity would create

alright so hear me out yk the mission where your supposed to steal the cars from the kids for devon weston right, what if when you switch to michael you go up the tracks and you use the boosting from the rails and the cut across the terrain to make the cars and franklin and trevor elastic band
I am playing gta 5 for the ps4 today and on the mission where you follow the janitor I was just going forwards and backwards to do smoke and a truck was behind me.What happened was the truck pushed me out of the way for some reason and pushed the janitors car forwards pass the red light he was at and he still went forwards.This might be a glitch but it could be useful to speed runners.
Hey, Baron, out of curiosity, what would you think of Rockstar adding more control over a vehicle, IE being able to use the clutch and shifter? I understand this would remove the skill behind the shoft shift trick but I think it would be interesting to at least see what impact it would have on the speedrun and racing communities
it would add more skill in the end, as manual shifting/clutching can make a huge difference more-so than shortshifting alone. However, they'd have to fix the core game engine for this to work. remember that curb boosting works better at low RPMs. i once used a manual shifting mod, and was able to get to max speed in about half the time as normal in the game - so it's a cool thing they could add but would require work on the basic game engine to make it not janky.
@@smitias_8474 it was deemed the canon ending by the community since everyone survives, so any strat regarding ending A or B will mainly be used in Any or 100%, not classic

alright so hear me out yk the mission where your supposed to steal the cars from the kids for devon weston right, what if when you switch to michael you go up the tracks and you use the boosting from the rails and the cut across the terrain to make the cars and franklin and trevor elastic band
I am playing gta 5 for the ps4 today and on the mission where you follow the janitor I was just going forwards and backwards to do smoke and a truck was behind me.What happened was the truck pushed me out of the way for some reason and pushed the janitors car forwards pass the red light he was at and he still went forwards.This might be a glitch but it could be useful to speed runners.

Hey, Baron, out of curiosity, what would you think of Rockstar adding more control over a vehicle, IE being able to use the clutch and shifter? I understand this would remove the skill behind the shoft shift trick but I think it would be interesting to at least see what impact it would have on the speedrun and racing communities
it would add more skill in the end, as manual shifting/clutching can make a huge difference more-so than shortshifting alone. However, they'd have to fix the core game engine for this to work. remember that curb boosting works better at low RPMs. i once used a manual shifting mod, and was able to get to max speed in about half the time as normal in the game - so it's a cool thing they could add but would require work on the basic game engine to make it not janky.
Why you forced to choose ending C? It seems like there could be a good strat "arms race" between endings

@@smitias_8474 it was deemed the canon ending by the community since everyone survives, so any strat regarding ending A or B will mainly be used in Any or 100%, not classic
