Little fact Chris Terrill is the only civilian and at 55 the oldest, to have been awarded the commando green beret. He earned it whilst filming a documentary on Royal Marines basic training. He completed all four commando phases and was awarded and honorary green beret.

In the 90's back in the RAF, once you had left trade training and joined the real mans RAF. Fitness went out of the window, I found that disgusting even to this day, you had SGT's who were out of breath tying up their shoe laces. It was a chargeable offence though, even though I don't think that many did get charged, but I really did miss my PT. You would play a bit of sports outside of work, such as five a side, and I used to play tennis at times, but that was about it. However, to have ship gyms on a ship is very lucky to say the least.

“Superior” in some regards yes but it’s limited in one major way. It’s still a diesel powered carrier so it has less room for jet fuel or other storage spaces and needs at sea replenishment more often than a nuclear carrier. Displacement is a secondary concern compared to longevity and fire power.

So you leave your battle station to get food? And then you potentially have food/drink near sensitive equipment? And then people don't quite know where other people are? This is just not the way the military works. You are relieved, you eat, you return. Battle doesn't necessarily mean an active firefight by the way.

    • @tams805

Aircraft for CATOBAR have to navalised, so the selection isn't that much bigger.
And catapults and traps put a lot more stress on both the ship and aircraft.

First of all, an Aircraft carrier is always protected by a group of ships.
Usually consisting of a cruiser, submarines, a destroyer squadron of at least 2 destroyers or frigates and a team of fighter jets that will shoot down any enemy planes miles before they can reach the carrier.
      Target? Yes.
