billy bradshaw Essentialy, he follows certain structure for building the improv. That’s why it seems “composed”. Sounds structural, and you can notice how some patterns are repeated like musical motifs.

The capacity of humans continues to astound me. She was raised on the internet, learning both classical and jazz through lessons and self study on youtube, only went to ONE WEEK of kindergarten and otherwise home/internet schooled for traditional education and conservatory schooled early. This is what a human can be when structured and motivated and gifted and unshackled to focus on one craft early on. Astounding. She is astounding but even more astounding is that, given similar structures, many humans have this capacity. It is a new era. Since DOMi hit the scene until now there has been a steady stream of exceptional young players popping up. And, Yes, she did sight read this but also she knew the solo having heard it before who knows how many times. Her solo stuff at age 16 is so mature. Her music now, age 18/19, is so funky - like a new layer of the stratosphere is now occupied. Focus on the original goal girl. Don't go down any number of holes around you.

The left hand ostinato doesn't waver one bit, the right hand plays the multitude of odd subdivided phrasing with a wonderful swing. This doesn't sound like assimilation of transcribed work, it sounds like it is the first time it's being played! This is a performance and not a cover! Absolutely phenomenal! Incredible musicianship with an astonishing ability to recreate the original performance. I watched expecting to enjoy a difficult covering of the ostinato with the solo phrasing but enjoyed the wholly new experience this performance is of itself. I mean this truly. Amazing!!!

I greatly admire sight reading skills. While my reading is painfully slow, I've written out parts for good readers and it's such a joy to not have to go over things and just hear back what you wanted from them.
I'm not sure where this transcription came from but the right hand part is monophonic. While there are slurs, there are no two or more note parts on the solo synth. Also while she plays some of the unison single line parts, except for a couple places she omits the left hand chords.
Now think all this up on the fly instead of having it written in front of you. While Cory may have had some structure and harmonic ideas going into this, it is entirely improvised. There are other videos of previous takes and the solo is substantially different. In one, he has the solo synth on the Hammond and plays the left hand parts on the organ.
Then deal with adjusting an analog synth to tailor the sound for the growth of the solo. And things like remembering to hit the sustain pedal on the lower synth for a second so he can work the vibrato controller on the solo synth. Many reasons why this will go down as a landmark jazz improvisation.

I am a pianist, and I am left absolutely stunned by her abilities. I am a person who sees a color-shape for each note. I learned to play by hearing, and although I tried music school, I could not learn to read music. If I want to play, say , a Bach or Mozart I simply follow the notes one-by-one for a few days until I internalize the piece. Then I just perform it from memory. Thank God for Mrs. Domi and that we have this type of musicianship among our young people here in 2023. // I’d like to share one of my performances that shows me playing by following the colors of each chord in my head. In Domi’s case she is reading the literal written melody from the page. In my case I am pulling the melody out of my head while I follow the colorings of the chords from my Musicolor Matrix charts. Here is that performance of a song from The Smiths: I'm not a virtuoso. I play to accompany and bring-out a melody. But here is an example of how, rather than sight read, I play the melody from my head, as well as the chord chord structures which i read from my color chart; my Musicolor Matrix. Here is a quick video i made of this performance: . th-cam.com/video/Ao2aXc_UxfQ/w-d-xo.html

At the level of her reading. I wouldn’t be surprised if memorized on the fly. I know people who have been trained to memorize as much as the could before the music was taken away from them and they had to play what they remember.it’s more of memorizing the sound of the piece and the skips rather than each individual note. I could be wrong and the title is actually misleading though😆.

That performance of a truly great solo is marvellous, but the "sight reading" description would involve her looking at the dots, and she doesn't look at the dots for half a page at a time, so either she can read half a page of the most ridiculously difficult dots at once, or she has rehearsed this piece just as often as you would expect in order to come up with a performance as good as this.

Domi is not a normal average musician. Her brain is extremely developed for the musical skills. Listen to her Franz Liszt concert, she was 14. If she caneras Lizst chart she can read Cory. She is just a genius, isn’t what virtuosos are? Note go from her eyes to her fingers straight, she doesn’t read notes she sees entire bars in a blink and process them instantaneously.
