A fairly important thing to note about the vulture is that it has the Hover key word, this means you can bring it in without the aircraft rules by declaring so at the declare battle formations stage and just have a base 20" move range and loses all Aircraft keywords and rules requirements. This also means that it can benefit from Born soldiers and gain lethal hits as well as its sustained hits. Not a MASSIVE change but it does help tip the value for cost in its favor a tad more.
I used to pair the vulture with 2 lascannons with a leman russ annihilator. They were 2 dedicated anti-tank vehicle but what would happen is that the enemy would have to focus on one of them at a time because you could put the Vulture behind the enemy line, so basically they were guaranteed to lose something with that pincer manuever. Kinda like an anti-tank anvil and hammer. Now the leman russ annihlator is no longer in the rules and you can't have lascannons on vultures.
as a guard soon to be player I wish they would just nerf aircraft by wound and save rolls, but in exchange you can only shoot with anti fly weapons at it, or by using a flying unit
Love the content! I just picked up the Vulture after visiting Warhammer World last week and I can’t wait to get it painted up and added to my army. One thing to note is that the kit doesn’t come with the Gatling cannons and I don’t think Forgeworld make them as a separate option any more. I’ve resolved to use the assault cannons from the Ravenwing accessories sprue in their place.
All punisher cannons just have the rule of cool. I have one Vulture with your standard twin punisher load outs. I always wanted a second one with rocket pods and lascannons. ❤
Vulture Gunship - 39 Sustained Fire 1 shots Dakkajet - 18 Sustained Fire 1 shots (albeit, all hits are critical hits) This Ork Mek is trying to work out how to loot a Vulture Gunship.
Ive been running a Vulture in my memey list for a very casual small tourney ive been having with my friends. Vulture, Thunderbolt, Demolisher, 2 Scout Sentinels, Chimera+2 Primaris Psykers, 10 Infantry+Creed, 10 Infantry+Platoon command+regimental attache+Lord Solar, 10 Catachan, 10 Scions+Scion Command, 2 squads of 5 Scions, 2 squads of 10 Kasrkin+Cadian Castellans. So far it has been pretty shit, as has my Thunderbolt as you might expect. Though I completely forgot it had TWO vulture Gatling cannons and was only firing 18 at a time which makes me feel like an idiot hahaha.
i was thinking of pairing this up with an exterminator and FOF to get -2 ap to shred something down with those 36 hits. Still cant really get around the STR 5 hits though. Leontus can order it as well but now we have heavily invested in this unit to be dangerous to everything with paper armor
How does it work with new lethal hits rules? Gatling seems like a near-guaranteed 3-4 damage alone into even the heaviest enemies, and that's just one of them.
I've been using a pair of gatling vultures in my crusade alongside the other more anti armor aircraft like lightnings and thunderbolts. I never use vultures as aircraft, I always keep them in hover. They are quite intimidating for opponents. I really like them with scout sentinel re-rolls (mine in crusade have elite gunners for re-roll 1s). I wish they'd drop in cost about 20-30 points though.
Honestly, I wish GW would either give fliers better rules (preferred), or just acknowledge that they dontvlike them, in their ground-pounding army battle simulator, and remove them, because they are tedious. I know some of these are NOT skimmers, but I still feel like they basically should work similarly, and then also have support options, and units.Guard, for instance, have the Valkyrie, and I almost feel like you need to justify using it. Chimeras are easier, cheaper, and do most of the same thing. Next to no unit Guard have actually benefits from being dropped in by air cav, when a tin box will do, unless we gwt Elysians rules, again, and even Mil Temp would just deep strike in. You could field an Officer of the Fleet, but he doesn't really add much to air units, or call down hits from space. I just wish they felt more like a part of tbe game, and less a tacked on addition they hope you won't choose to use.
Lol, yeah, the real reason you should be hyping up this plane (or any plane really in 10th so far) is because it looks badass and it'll offer you an opportunity to improve painting techniques that you don't get as much opportunity with a smaller unit...but to try to convince me that they are worth fielding competitively is laughable at best
It's good versus most infantry. But anything with a 2+ save, especially if t5+ is gonna make it cry. For comparison vs normal space marines (same conditions) it will kill 2 marines. It will kill 4 sisters of battle. X2 for 2 main guns that's 4 marines or 8 sisters. Or 6/12 Boyz without cover. It's bad in the current tourney meta and vs elite armies. If the meta becomes hordy for some reason this is one of the better answers.
LETS GOOOOOOO! IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!
It is nearly enough dakka, but there is always more room for more dakka.
DERE'S NEVAH ENUFF DAKKA, YA GIT!

It's not a plane It's a gun that flies
2 guns with a cockpit between them.
3 guns
So this is the 40k A-10 🤣

There are recast gatling cannons available, and Models And Minis sells their own design.
@@markdorn8873 thanks for the tip. I did a few searches based on those terms and it looks like they’re US based, I’m in the UK, so no dice.

Vultures along with the Valkyries should have the option of a free wargear option of two hunter killer missiles.
This may be a stupid question but can the Valkyrie still hover? I didn’t see it on the data sheet and was just wondering
Love you mordian. Loving the scion and aircraft videos of recent, keep it up!

Field of fire doesn’t work for units without the regiment or squadron keyword
@@Toadfish7good point, best we got is -1 ap when paired with an exterminator
Yup, exterminator was my first idea.

The Vulture is one of my favourite units man!
Exterminator tank ability does not have the same keyword restrictions as field of fire

I miss the OoF orbital bombardment ability
Vulture probably so expensive cause it can hover
The Warthog of 40k 👌👌
And equally non credible In the modern battlefield
more like the A-10 of 40k, an aircraft built around its guns.

Rest assured. With regimental attaches and order, a Vulcan Gatling gun on average takes one wound off my custodes. :)
