    We, humans, are the Dwemer, but when we teleported to our realm (Earth), we lost our memories, only one Dwemer (Todd Howard) started having flashbacks, but of course he knew nobody would believe him, so he made a series of video games and lore solely from his memories.

    From Oblivion to Elder Scrolls Online the more I learned about the dwarves or dwemer the more I'm convinced their latter name is a play on the word "dweomer". After reading the below definition years ago or one just like it I was convinced that in the world of Elder Scrolls their names would Translate to "Sound Elves" or "Echo Elves" especially when one considers their use of tonal Magic.
    Dweomer, is the Old English word meaning 'witchcraft' that derives from the Old Norse term dvergmál literally meaning 'dwarf talk' (dvergr dwarf + mál talk), referring to the secret knowledge of magic among the Norse dwarves[citation needed]. See for instance the entry, dweomercræft. A related Middle English word that derives from the phrase 'dwarf talk', dwergma, means 'echo', crediting the dwarves who live in the stones with the sound[citation needed].

      Yes and no, Magic is not a matter of faith in this series; but a matter of nature. Remember a lot of the Et’ada gave up their life force and divinity to become the “Earth Bones” the legitimate foundation of existence, thus even the *GRASS* has magical properties. It’s why Alchemy is a thing, or why even commoners can cast simple spells if they practice hard enough, no the right words/ handsigns

    Dwemer automatons do not run on soulgems, they use it as tonal resonators. You can look it up in skyrim "research notes" and also we how it is done in arniels endeavor.
    The soulgems inside of the Dwemer automatons are used as resonators to produce tonal architecture, the automatons on vvardenfell would instead use the biggest resonator which is the heart of Lorkhan.

    • @thalmoragent9344
      @thalmoragent9344 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Well, they have soul gems in them, or at least a Crystal as we see with Arniel in the game, but it's filled with the heat/energy from Lava, Lorkahn's blood/power.
      So they used their resonators to trap the heat and put it into the crystal, which then acts as a mini heart of Lorkahn, which is why when he struck it with Kagrinac's tool, he also vanished.

    To add the Dwemer "Ghosts" thing, I'm not sure how accurate this is, but just as they used the Snow Elves, I think they even used their own fallen brethens souls to carry out functions such as guarding and basic upkeep, it would be like them to squeeze out every ounce of usefulness out of everything, even their own dead. And as for soul gems and convertor, as advanced as they were, they likely found away to use soul gems for power sources without having to use actual souls.

    A topic for a future podcast could be what actually happened with the creation of Mundus.
    Did Shezarr trick the other gods, did he convince them to help, or was it more nuanced? What did it look like when the gods lost their power? That sort of speculation could be really interesting.
    I imagine it went something like this:
    Akatosh: "Hey, Shezarr?"
    Shezarr: "Yo"
    Akatosh: "Hey, so you know how you asked Magnus to draw up the schematics for this little project of yours? Well, as he was doing that, hie eye just kinda popped out of his face and he peaced out of here along with his entourage. I mean, Merid-Nunda stayed behind and I overheard her arguing with Magnus saying something like 'I'm a daedric prince now, Dad; it's not just a phase!'...but would you happen to know what that was about?"
    Shezarr: "Oh...yeah. So there might be one teeny tiny little detail about Mundus I, uh, neglected to mention. Creating it...may or may not require a body part from each of us"
    Akatosh: "...come again, bitch?"
    Shezarr: "Okay, now, before you get mad, here me out: We're all gods here, we know about the Godhead, but we're immortal and all-powerful; lacking a sense of self, we can't escape the Dream. But the mortals, who are going to be our decedents, _will_ be able to. And don't you think that'll be worth it?"
    Akatosh: "So that's what all this was about?"
    Shezarr: "I mean, I did also think it would be a pretty funny prank, like 'haha, now we're all mortal!' but yeah"
    Akatosh: "Alright, we'll finish this, but once it's done, you're going to have to explain this to the others. Until then, Trinimac is going to keep an eye on you and if you do anything stupid, he's going to rip your heart out"
    Shezarr: "That's fair"

    • @Trynt33
      @Trynt33 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could easily see the exchange being more nuanced like that, and with cultures like the Redguard and Altmer having their own interpretations of the event through their cultural lenses but in actuality it's probably far more complicated than what most mortals could understand. It'd be like if people now tried to understand the motives behind hyper advanced aliens showing up but these aliens also were responsible for creation happening, maybe it's why Daedric princes act the way they do. They feel left out in a way they know they'll get left behind if mortals actually escape the dream, gods of an empty universe with the only entities being the copies of mortal life they make in their realms

    Actually, i would love to see the dwemer "come back" in elder scrolls 6. Just in a limited fashion. Imagine a scenario where we're in Hammerfell and only the Rourken clan come back, or even something like they never disappeared.
    Basically just really play into the issues of different factions of dwemer and have a group thats been working to fix Kagrenac's mistakes. Perhaps if they just hid away it could be because whatever Kagrenac did tried to erase them from existence and they've been struggling for millenia to prevent that from happening.
    I feel like limiting the return to just a single faction or clan of the dwemer allows for the reintroduction of this fascinating race, but allows bethesda to limit to exposure of all the dwemer's secrets. Maybe none of the other dwemer know exactly what Kagrenac did, and maybe the Rourken clan is isolated enough from the rest of the dwemer that they don't necessary know all the information about the other areas of dwemer history we've come across in prior games.

      This is the exact reason why the mystery should be left as that, a mystery. If you think about it then whenever a franchise starts explaining the facts behind a "mythological" event or race then it always comes up short. The reason is simple, if you spend years building up something with vague hints and incredible/fantastical myths then the reality often can't match up.
      Think Reapers in Mass Effect 3, think N'zoth in WoW and the like. If the Dwemer were to appear in game then the reality is that it would probably be incredibly underwhelming. Here's this mysterious race that we've heard were masters of magic and science. Their ruins and lore is some of the most beloved in The Elder Scrolls, now they're here and we know EXACTLY what happened to them, what they're like etc. It is bound to disappoint a lot of people, even if they think they want it.

    You know, they “could” get away with adding Dwemer as a playable race in ESO and a Dwemer Artificer class.
    Now hear me out. The last Dwemer stated he was spared the fate of the others as he was on a plain of Oblivion when they were banished to a different plain. We also hear from Deven “Meridia’s Champion” and Meridia that time passes differently in Oblivion, which is how Deven can be met as the Golden Warrior before meeting him during the Planemeld quest. During which he mentions that time passes differently and Meridia sent him back to help you in the Psijic Order questline. With that being said, it could be claimed the player being a Dwemer could be played off as a Dwemer who was soul trapped and sent to Oblivion long before the Dwemer’s fall. During said time their soul could’ve fallen into Molag Bal’s possession and the story continued.
    As for the Artificer class, we have seen Sothas Sil pull this off with his augmented dwemer automatons. It would be its own twist on Sorcerer or Warden, summoning a Dwemer Spider, the one who turns into a ball, and an ultimate based around the giant ones. As for the other two lines, one could focus on buffing and self preservation, and the final one based around traps. Could even revamp the those explosive skeletons of the necromancer into the oilpod dwemer spiders.

    I would not be opposed to bringing the dwemer back as a whole, but there would need to be some mysteries still preserved, I agree. Perhaps the dwarves disappeared because they learned about something else and we now have mysteries about that other thing. Maybe as a DLC option.

    I like to think there's whole communities of dwemer sitting in various planes of Oblivion. No way was Yagrum Bagarn the only one who was there at the time; there would've been a bunch of them, all over the place. Now they're all sitting around wondering if it's safe to come back or not, because Yagrum went back and was never heard from again, so they don't know if they can safely return to Nirn or if they'll all just disappear, so they're stuck in Oblivion twiddling their thumbs and trying to convince one another to be the first one to go back.

    Technically they were planned for a return in the cancelled DLC that was to be set in Hammerfell. While dealing with the ongoing revolt against the Aldmeri Dominion’s invasion, the player would be tasked with delving into an old Dwemer ruin where upon resting at the excavation site, the player would be awoken by the shimmering ethereal form of a Dwemer standing before them, begging them to awaken. As the quest progresses you’d learn through this dwemer scholar about their downfall and their current efforts to return to the plain of Nirn, as they were sealed within a plain of Oblivion whose tear is depicted by one of the “tears”/celestial bodies in the sky. It would task the player with creating a form of oblivion gate so that they may return to reclaim their old holdings. In doing so, conflicts would arise on the surface as they return to the try to reclaim their old homes before finally agreeing to settle for Black Reach after the player aids them in retaking it from the Falmer. There is even a throne overlooking the city where their “jarl”/king would sit.

Maybe a quest line revolving around a museum devoted to them and you go around collecting texts and artifacts related to them and you learn a little more with each quest.
