I was having a problem replicating the sound of my pedalboard running through my VHT Special 6 for headphone practice.... Watched your video and pulled the trigger before it even ended. I have a mixer so headphone stereo monitoring is sorted. No digital amp sim/IR can replicate the sound of my OD pedals hitting a tube amp (already tried with my multi-effects, weak sauce and distorted). You, sir, are a genius!

One of my absolute favorite gear demo videos. Shows how you don't need to burn your cash on expensive pedals to get great tone. Seems like the most crucial parts of your tone can be found before your pedal chain: a good guitar, good skills, and a good ear.

I totally dig your video, the Joyo really opens up the sound and gives clarity to the other pedals. If this was played through a Crate 15w I can only imagine ifit was through a tube combo like a Deluxe Reverb or a JCM 800. It sounds great does your playing, nice chops dude.

Great demo, no silly ego. Aim, to see how an amp-sim reacts to drives, achieved. It's quite amazing how that Joyo creates a fullness in tone. I found it useful when you clicked it off, to hear the difference without it.

have you ever used any of the Boss legend series preamps, like the fender bassman or the deluxe reverb? if so, do you find the Joyo american sound to have more or less options?
Where would you put this pedal in an effects chain? If it acts as an amp simulator, should it really be at the end? Or closer to the beginning of the chain like an overdrive pedal? Thanks
I have this pedal as my live backup. I have spent a lot of money on preamps in the past. But this £30 pedal does it's job perfectly. I can plug my pedals in and it just works.
This is one of the most impressive gear demos I've heard on TH-cam. You got some nice chops in there Philip. The other thing that impresses me is the recording quality ... are you recording it with any particular mic & recording gear? Also, do you have a separate reverb pedal, or does your delay pedal make it sound like there's reverb in there? Anyway, the Joyo pedal really gives fatter, brighter, real-amp tone. Time to buy one!
thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed the video,but u have to disappoint you now. I recorded this using my phone. iPhone 4 I believe it was. no studio or post processing trickery. any reverb is coming off the amp and the room.
+Philip Joyce It's a good sound ... the acoustics of the room & the Crate amp produce a decent tone. The other pedals make a pretty awesome combination.

Hey, I like it at the end of else after overdrive and before modulation and delays. I haven't tried it towards the start of the chain because a friend of mine told me he had done that and it didn't sound very good but that doesn't mean you might not have fine results doing that. I like to treat it like a preamp rather then an overdrive pedal.
Hi philip, how if you plug rat-ts-american in front of amp? Will they make a noise if you stacking them at the same time? I have OCD and tubescreamer, stacked them already, but planning to buy some of this joyo to get more punchy sound. Thanks for the video anyway, cheers!
sorry for the delay in replying. there will be some amount of noise of course , same as with any drive pedals. the American sound will only get hissy if you push the gain up high, but this situation I kept it pretty low so no noticeable extra noise
Just bought this Joyo together with a Husky Drive. One thing that isn't clear to me watching this is whether you are running the Joyo into the other drives (left to right) or the other way around. Great video and playing!
As with 99% of pedals the input is on the right side and the outputs are on the left. so by that logic it should be clear that the guitar signal is going from right to left. Cruncher into Rat into Tubescreamer and finally the American sound. Glad you enjoyed the video. thanks for watching.
Hi Phillip I have a ? If I run my guitar through the American sound then straight into the front of the amp. And turn the amps drive up if I engage the American sound with clean settings will it play clean ?
Robert Wootton if you set it with the level is lower then the guitar when it's disengaged then yes you should be able to get it to be cleaner then the unaffected amp.sound.
it gives a lot more character to the other pedal you put in front. I love your clip since it's all hook to the front of your amp. We all know that the katana 50 doesn't have an fx loop.
It's perfect for recording. My £1500 pedalboard into 2 of these in stereo, straight into Presonous audiobox. £20 odd quid each, and I'll never mic an amp again.

Then today I found your video! Almost tore down all my pedalboard Setup. Yikes! There's no right or wrong way. Whatever sounds best to you. Some pedals don't like being driven hard in the input.. others have more Headroom so can be boosted more effectively

I have had the American Sound for 3 years and I use it all kinds of ways.. To record direct into a tascam 8 track recorder... As an OD with my Soul Food OD.. Great pedal... Now I think I am going to get the British sound to use with a Strat for some Hendrix type stuff..

Philip Joyce Cool. I was looking at the Behringer GDI 21 as well, that one actually has an XLR output. Pretty cool amp modeler pedal. Its a SansAmp GT 21? clone. $30 as well. Ill probably just get em both for only 60 bucks. Thanks again man, I do appreciate your help.

Cruncher definately! Rat was also nice, both with the joyo of course.
How useful is the joyo with 100W solid state amps?? does it help to get a sound closer to valve amps??

Just bought this Joyo together with a Husky Drive. One thing that isn't clear to me watching this is whether you are running the Joyo into the other drives (left to right) or the other way around. Great video and playing!
