I live just under 90 minutes from COTA and didn’t get any rain at all during the race. Frequently here in South Central Texas it can be dry where you are and you can see it just pouring down just ahead of you.
I have a couple of relatives that are into racing. I watch when visiting with them. I personally never knew they raced in these conditions. I know someone who said the same thing about MLB and American Football.
The other wrinkle with the race ending when it did is that Elliott did not have enough fuel for those final 14 laps and would have had to pit. Thus, he very much wanted the race stopped and called because that was his only chance to win.
The racing all weekend was fantastic! Plenty of battles for position and pit strategy. I would love for COTA to be on the schedule next year. And I haven't been on the push for more road courses. Like af all. I wanted to hype up tonight's Coca cola 600 but most of the race was kinda meh. Few good battles in the last 50 or so laps
They red flagged the race after Truex and Custer wrecked. They dried the long straight leading to turn 12. After that it was good for awhile. There was a lot of good racing as the field sorted itself back out after the stoppage. They spread out and the visibility wasn't as bad as when they were all bunched up. It started raining harder and water was starting to build up on parts of the track. After Jared Bush almost hit his brother they threw the yellow flag. The rain was getting worse and a restart in those conditions was impossible. I knew the red flag was coming about 5 laps before it happened. I was shaking my head when Kyle pitted with 16 laps to go. It ended up coming 7 minutes before they called the race.
the last 10 laps before the called it, it started raining harder, and if they didn;t call the racing ending caution, Larson was going to win, because Chase was going to have to pit for fuel with like 5 to go or something
Larson did say in a interview after the race that he himself didn't want to race in the race and said he understood the need to stop the race. Chase was just happy for his luck

The coke 600 should be good today. Its a long race and the xfinity race there was good.

COTA is an amazing track. I've been to it once when I saw F1 in person. NASCAR should also race in the rain and not complain.
