  • In Folsom, Calif., residents are watching Folsom Dam's new auxiliary spillway project transform from rock and dirt, into a massive, life-saving flood risk reduction project. It's one of the largest construction jobs in the nation and crews are working around the clock to complete this critical infrastructure project by fall of 2017. Join us for an inside tour of the construction.

Thank you for this video, well done. With the ability to operate the new spillway, Reclamation is able to better manage large floods by safely releasing more water from Folsom Reservoir earlier in a storm through both the spillway gates on Folsom Dam and the new control structure’s radial gates (which sit 50 feet lower), reducing hydrologic risk and leaving more storage capacity in the reservoir.
