I'd say idle power is not that important for a travel adapter since I don't think people travel for so long that it matters. Safety on the other hand, crucial because you're in a place with unknown electrical hazards. I prefer the passthrough chargers because they're usually equipped with fuses and shutters on the plugs so they're safer than other adapters. And if I were ever to forget my own charger I can get by buying just a cable. Also safety markings on plug adapters are as meaningful as DOE VI efficiency marks on chargers.
Yeah, I cover the idle as completeness, I understand if you ONLY use this for travel then it's probably not plugged in all the time. For that matter, most people could care less about efficiency too, but it's still a power supply so I look at them the same way. But yeah, the simple adapters are cheap enough and if you pick the right one they are safe.
7:45. It really helps on safety for these adapters if you *don’t* put other metal objects besides electrical plugs into them. You know, it’s optional for adults to do stupid things.
Thank you very much for this video. Seems, something like Anker Prime / Baseus with interchangeable AC cord is the way to go - which is more safer or maybe new chargers with AC outlet.
Hello mate, I am searching thru your videos already a week. The plan is to find perfect power source for frequent traveler. 10 months in adventure this year (US, Singapore, Indonesia, Africa) it is really a lot. Carrying separate charger for each device ( MacBook, 2x iPhone, android phone, Nintendo Switch, 2x headphones and Apple Watch) is really annoying. Almost bought Satechi 145w but your review help me to discard that decision. Mainly because isolation... I hate tickling when using some devices. Could you please recommend something from your lab bench?
Thank you for this! I just ordered the SlimQ 100w (3 usb c, 1 usb a) for my travel needs. It’s got the travel plugs that can swap out. Hopefully it’s good! Your review of the old one looked promising
finally! the review that i have been waiting for in your channel. if you plan to do a follow-up review in this topic could you please include the 65W GaN Tessan Universal adapter. Thank you for this educational review!
@AllThingsOnePlace brands like AUKEY and LENCENT are also popular in my region but since I started watching your videos I am not touching any of those brands until i hear an informative review from you. by the way, your review on the power banks helped me to have a peace of mind when I am charging using a power bank. I bought the Baseus blade for each member of the family. Your review on the Ugreen robot charger saved me money. I knew something was shady on that thing😂
I’d love to see you take a look at the Tofu Maru charger and the Mogics Super Bagel. Two very unique and interesting travel chargers. I’ve no doubt like the Zendue they don’t strictly meet safety standards, but closer than many other options.
They've been done individually obviously, but inui are amongst the best out there. Don't be fooled by the big brands like anker and ugreen, they've become worse over the years.
I recently purchased the INIU PD 140W 27,000mAh Power Bank (model BI-B64) along with a 100W Anker Nano charger to fast charge the power bank in 1.8 hours. My Mom is taking it next week on her trip to Antarctica. I love the heavy weight, the screen, and the capacity which is right under the limit that TSA allows on airplanes (100Wh). This power bank is 99.9Wh. 😎👍
I almost bought a travel adapter / charger combination, but hesitated since you didn't reviewed those things. These things are everywhere now, and preferred by many people, since it's an all-in-one solution. But I'm hesitant since most of them are of.....unknown brand such as MOMAX, TESSAN. Aukey has one, but no reliable reviews are available. Would be good if you could round them up!
Something like the Satechi 165W is the best kind of travel adapter. So many hotels have loose sockets, placed in cramped places, and often far away from where you'd want to charge your devices. Having a cord to the adapter itself fixes these issues entirely, plus you can customize the cord with different plugs and length.
This is why I like chargers that take standard C7 “figure 8” cables, you can just swap the cable out for whatever country you are travelling too. Very convenient for poorly placed sockets and no death plugs involved. Also check out the Tofu Maru and Mogics Super Bagel for other interesting options.
Most of them try to establish some sort of data connection which one can tell by the prompt on macOS and iOS if one wants to allow the accessory. Can you tell why that is the case? Are there any USB controllers inside doing that by default?
They should not be asking for any data communications. The chip is using the cc line to pass a small amount of data to negotiate power levels. I'm sure someone will figure out a way to hack your machine through this path, rendering USB C completely useless, but there should be no data connection from this path to any part of the computer, phone, or any other subsystem data paths. The computer can report if the charger is capable, allowing the accessory is understandable as it does connect to a data capable port but should not pass any information. Are there bad actors, probably. If you plug in a lightning, magsafe cable, those have their own chips in the cables. So, may interact differently with the system.
@@AllThingsOnePlaceI have it, amongst many other travel chargers (I seem to collect weird and wacky ones). I don’t have your equipment to test it, but it works well. Charges fine, doesn’t seem to get too hot, solid feeling build quality, has safety shutters and a replaceable fuse. Seems similar to the Zendure.

Think about a relocation. You can either buy everything new (including laptop chargers which can get hard to replace) or an adapter.

I don't think it happens often enough to a great number of people. But in that case yeah, it makes sense.
@@AllThingsOnePlace I appreciate the methodology and you sticking with it.

haha, I always shove the USB cable directly into the socket for maximum charging.

Yep, that's still a good option today, better than these.

@@PSYCHOV3N0M I have two of those, superb chargers.
I have it still to review... So far behind on power banks.
@@AllThingsOnePlace look forward to seeing if I made a mistake or not then. I'll look extremely forward to that one, thank you.

Hello, any chance you could review the rocoren 200w and 400w. Please and thanks.
Yeah, they are on the list, I don't have them yet, and I have about 50 other things to do that are here.

"DeathDapters" were all we had in my home country, and I'm so glad I hadn't witnessed any issue back then.
mm yeah, the early ones were all kind of scary. They are real cheap though.
I've had my eye on the Arsmel VisaPro 170w travel adapter, wonder how that one would stack up
Not sure, I added it to the list.

Not something I would need but thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching!
How'd I know I was looking for a travel adapter? U sir are a wizard
haha you mean late, perpetually late.
This might be a fun one to review ADP-240KB BA
ha, yeah I know.
I ordered a Lencent 65w travel adapter 3 days ago. Yet to receive
Nice. Let me know if it works well.
