Hey guys, thank you for the great videos. I ordered a truck 3 months ago and picked it up today. My original salesman was fair and we agreed to a price just over invoice. Today, I used your advice to see the invoice, which my new salesman was reluctant to provide, but did so after I insisted. We confirmed the OTD price minus factory incentives, and secured financing at a better rate than what my bank quoted me. I resisted the suggestion for Gap and ESP as I did my homework and found a better ESP for almost half what the dealer wanted. In the end I am very happy with my deal and, for the first time didn’t feel like I was swindled. None of this would have been possible without great content from you both. Thank you.

I had to wait 6 months but I saved thousands by ordering a car, and I feel like the dealer didn’t hassle me as much with fluff because I knew exactly what I wanted. 2 year old cars with 40k+ miles are being listed for more than the new car I ordered, new cars on the lot are listed higher than is reasonable as well.

My Dad ordered a new Buick back in the 90's. They agreed on a selling price. Then the dealer came back and said that the cost of the car had gone up $500.00. The dealer would not come down on the $500.00. So my dad called Buick up directly and got a $500.00 voucher to cover the price increase. So there can be options out there if the dealer won't work with you.

In 2012 I ordered a Buick LaCrosse that was supposed to come in within about 3 weeks. I put down a deposit and charged it to my GM Credit Card. Several months later after a complete run around by the dealership I called Buick and they would not help me at all as they said the franchise dealer was a completely separate business. Turns out the dealer was in financial trouble and could not even order cars - I had effectively given them a short term loan. At every visit to the dealership someone new lied to me and tried to say they could get me an update in just a few more days. Thank god I put the deposit on a credit card. I'll never do a custom order that requires a deposit again.

The process was very simple when I ordered my Audi while living in Germany. No dealership to deal with simply because i ordered directly from the manufacturer. The cost saving was mind boggling. 1k deposit and the build was complete in 10 weeks. Audi called and told me what day and time that my car would be rolling off of the assembly line for delivery. Was given a tour of the facility on the build completion date and watched my car roll out of the assembly line. Saved almost 10k vs what the dealership was selling them for.

Since the truck arrived in Sept 2020 I received additional incentives that Ford offered at the time the truck arrived. I always shop three dealerships with the same vehicle spec. On my recent Ford purchase, all three dealerships told me I got either the rebates at time of order, or time of delivery, whichever is better. My usual dealership never asks for a deposit when I order. There is no discussion of add-on accessories and they don't happen. They show me MSRP, invoice, and all the plan prices right up front. I ask them how they are figuring the deal and they tell me most of the information, like the incentive they get for selling X-plan, what the actual cash value is for my trade, what they will put it on the lot for, etc. I don't ask them about holdback or other factory to dealer incentives but I realize that, along with profit on my trade, is their incentive to sell. Yes, they make pretty good money on my deals for the amount of time we spend together.

I ordered a Ford Transit and didn't negotiate the price (oops, didnt know I could on a factory order), although I did catch them trying to slip in the 'market adjustment fee' of $2k and told them I wouldn't be paying that. You guys saved me $2k right there, thank you! Now that I have already ordered and put my deposit down yesterday, I'm going to negotiate the floorplan assistance fee and try to get closer to invoice. Any advice?

I ordered and took delivery of a Chevy Blazer RS last year. First, the sales manager made it obvious he didn't want to order a car but to sell me his inventory. He kept talking about financing and "$ per month. Finally we ordered what I wanted. He wouldn't budge off MRSP and only charged me $100 deposit. It was like clockwork and the car arrived as promised, 2 1/2 months. I then negotiated my final selling price but they insisted on the $300 dealer prep.

It’s 2021 and I still can’t believe that we still have dealerships 🤦‍♂️
Should be able to order them directly to your home. Dealer mark ups KILL so many deals especially in these current times. And dealer orders are usually very convoluted and with stupid option combinations that people wouldn’t get otherwise. Which is a waste of resources that could go into making a vehicle EXACTLY the way a customer wants

Well it depends on whether or not the dealership owns it’s own inventory or if they use a large banking source to which they just pay a monthly premium for each unit that sits in the lot from month to month. The pricing structure between the two are hugely different.

Dealer: “This is as low as we can go, its invoice”
Me: “The Holdback/floor plan assistance from manufacturer will suffice if you want this sale..”
Dealer: “Sign here, how much you putting down again?”

This is the video I've been waiting for! Thanks!
    Some clarifications:
    1. Wouldn't a discussion on financing or trade-in only happen AFTER agreement on an OTD price?
    2. When does the conversation with F&I take place -- when ordering or upon delivery?
    3. How can I obtain insight into the local dealer's FPA, AA, and holdback? Perhaps ask to see an invoice from an on-the-lot vehicle?
    4. Some manufacturers have websites allowing you to spec out a vehicle and forward the results to a dealer so they can act on it. Any drawbacks with that approach?

1.) yes 2.) delivery 3.) For specific dealer, ask them. otherwise to get a general idea reference the link I posted 4.) Yeah, most dealers I find can't match that specifically. They search for similar ones coming into the region and try to steal them away for you. Toyota, for instance, says they can put in a factory preference order with your selections, but many that I talk to pretend like it's not possible or they are unwilling to do it, so good luck with that. So basically, build a car is a lie for most manufactures selling in NA. Hope this helps! I gained all the knowledge from zach and ray's other videos and livestreams.

Where does a down payment on a factory built vehicle come into play? Can you use that while negotiating the price. For example the vehicle you are having built comes out to like $40,000 and you have a down payment of $20,000. Will a dealer be a lot more open to negotiate a price when you have the vehicle factory built?

    • @magellanmax
      @magellanmax 2 ปีที่แล้ว

No, the down payment is only crucial to when you're applying for the loan. By putting down half the purchase price you will greatly increase your loan offers and better competitive financing rates. That big down payment covers the depreciation and the lender is protected. If you have a trade in, don't mention it till you finish negotiating the deal because you don't want the dealer to adjust the price beforehand because of your trade.
