Just left a dealership earlier today. Hyundai venue, 23,365 msrp. 2k mark up & 2k in add ons(1k paint protection, 500 for nitrogen in tires, 500 for brake lights to blink 3 times when hitting brakes). So 23,365 went to 27,365. 17% over msrp. Dealer gave us two options, 8.99% at msrp or 5.99% with 4k over. They would not budge on giving us the lower rate without the add ons(which weren’t even installed yet). Totally crazy. Walked out.

In the case of the parts that were replaced and upgraded, you should also get the original of those parts that are included in the MSRP. This is probably especially important for the wheels. I'm sure the original wheels are pretty valuable in their own right and you're paying for them. Same with the original shift knob, etc.

Yeah, good point - I've never purchased optional OEM style wheels, or shift knobs etc, but yes theoretically you'd have trunk load of original parts when you buy this thing. Good thing it's a hatch back! Honestly, and if you were to purchase the wheels say, 3 months down the road, it's not like there's a core charge on the wheels- so yeah you should be getting all those parts they took off, including the valve stem caps.

local Subaru dealer boasting about selling at MSRP. Have a car on the way (waiting months due to supply shortage) - they keep asking if I wanna buy a cancelled order that's come in earlier than mine....but twice now they've said there are extra options on there: Ceramic Coating, rust coating, under coating, interior seat protection +$2400.
For the first one offered, I was in the dealership and I heard one salesman saying that car was going for ceramic tomorrow "because the customer cancelled their order" and then when my saleslady offered me the car, she said the ceramic is already on it.
So my takeaway is that they're putting extras on (that you can't ask them to remove), which have high profit margin, so they can build them into the price. Basically forcing extra on clients. I'm willing to bet the client who cancelled, didn't order them at all. Plus why not offer the cars BEFORE they add these options? Because they're being sneaky. Costumers lost their minds. Everyone who can is working 2-3 jobs or doing side gig jobs. So those people can afford the mark ups without a care. And the pandemic forced lots of people into working like that, so there is a lot of tired people with money in their pockets but too tired to think straight.
Dealerships just happen to pick up on it early enough to mark up everything they could, now they just blame the average 40 hours a week worker if they cannot afford a $1200 a month car payment.

No one can answer that question. There are too many variable. The best approach is to offer a low but realistic amount and wait for the dealer to counter. You should not offer a ridiculously low offer as that will simply cause the dealer to ignore you.
My standard offer is usually 10-12 percent below MSRP. But it depends on the market. During the pandemic an offer of MSRP might have been low but today, with inventories increasing, an offer below MSRP and around invoice is usually a good starting point.
The key is "you never know unless you ask" so ask.

They cut it in half and added the same value in another fee. I told them I'll go right next door and get a Tucson Hybrid if that $1900 didn't become a net $0. They eventually took it off entirely but by then I had a bad taste in my mouth. It was 2022 so if course it was an order from the dealer so with all that time to think about it I ended up buying the Tucson Hybrid and getting my deposit back from the Subaru dealer. • @scottr2706
      @scottr2706 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not double dipping.
It is an additional wheel package which includes the wheels with TPMS and the tires. It is an accessory listed on the Acura website which the buyer may purchase. This dealer has simply added this accessory package to the vehicle at the dealership. To this dealer what the buyer wants or does not want is not relevant. The MSRP for this accessory is $2,691 or $2,791.
The real issue is the dealer's addendum to the MSRP does not, as Ray noted, specify the manufacturer's MSRP of the products listed. A smart buyer can go to the Acura website and figure out the MSRP for those items which are actual Acura products. Such as the listed MSRP for the tire package noted above.

The ones from the factory would have been for the stock wheels. Since the dealer added different wheels, they would have needed to put TPMS on the new wheels. From online search: “Do I need new TPMS sensors when I get new wheels? We definitely recommend getting new sensors if you replace your wheels because the old ones were most likely designed to suit those exact wheels. Chances are, your new wheels will not be the same thickness or sizes as your OEM wheels which can give faulty readings.”

My local honda store had 2 Type R's in there showroom. Earlier this week I went in and honestly would have bought one if they would have let me pay msrp. Gosh how far we've fallen. They were initially asking for $15k over

Why not? They're hot and in demand.
If no one wants to buy one, the price would fall to MSRP.

I am currently looking to buy a Honda pilot and they have about 4.5k over MSRP because of their add-ons. I have been calling up and down California trying to get the best OTD price with 0 add ons so far not much luck but they have discounted the add-ons . Would I be able to find a dealership that will completely take out the add-ons or dealer installed accessories?

I guarantee if you were to walk up in there and pull out 10k-15k in cash for money down and say I want the car at msrp and no add-ons or I walk they'll do it.
Also pre-approved from bank and no extended warranty unless you want to get taken another way.
