The Nomoc Experience also created a video on the whole trip to Washington! Check it out here: • Vanlife | Chaos Divers...
In this episode of Chaos Divers, Sam Sam, the Adventure Man, The Nomoc Experience, and I went to Mukilteo in Washington to dive for the Dungeness Crab. Our dive turned into a full-fledged emergency ascent to the surface.

I just recently started watching dive videos, didn't know these kind of channels were out there until AWP popped up in my feed.
That was a frightening moment. I'm glad that you kept calm, reacted quickly & let your training guide you. Thankfully Jacob was there and ready to assist if things went further south.
I liked the end when you decided that since God blessed & protected you, giving you another day, you returned the blessing to another of God's creations and released the crabs. 💕

Sam and Jacob, I know what it feels like to have to make an ascent like that. Many years ago, I was doing some sport diving while in the Air Force, and I don't know how, but my reserve had been pulled on my tank. This was before all the gauges and things used now with modern diving. All I had was a tank and there was a built in reserve with the valve. You pull the bar down to activate it and it would give you enough time to surface. As I mentioned, mine had unknowingly been pulled, and I completely ran out of air. I had to make an emergency ascent like that. I too had that training so I knew to exhale as I was going up, and to not go up too fast or I could get the bends. I was about 80 feet down. Honestly, I wasn't scared because of the training, but it could have been disastrous if I hadn't had it.

I'm a certified solo diver. about 20 years ago, I was on a solo night dive at 100 ft in Lake Travis, Texas and hit a cold spot that took my breath away. I sucked in on my regular and got nothing. My regular had apparently failed. I then made a very quick ascent to the surface, checked my gear, got my regulator working again, dropped back down to 30', stayed there for 10 minutes, came up to 15' for 3 minutes, and then surfaced and called the dive. Went home very thankful for my training and that I lived to see another day and hadn't damaged my lungs or gotten the bends. That dive freaked me out pretty good.
Turned out, my wet suit was too tight and my weight belt was also cinched up too tight causing me to have difficulty breathing that deep underwater. I have since changed my diving configuration to a steel backplate and wing and a steel 95 cu in 3500 PSI tank. Now I don't dive with a weight belt and my rig doesn't constrict me anywhere. I also dive with a Zeagle Flathead 6 regulator which has never given me any issues.

Be ready for any emergency and don't go into water you are not prepared for. Getting certified doesn't mean you can jump into the Missouri or Mississippi river. As I always say.......BE SAFE. I do worry about the many new divers. I hope they all watched this and get more training and practice for emergencies. Thankful you were not in really deep water. Be safe. God is good!

PRAISE GOD you're BOTH ok!!! 🙏🙏🙏 With Sam ascending fast but Jake right with him, had they not known to expell all their air, it could've easily been a double tragedy. 😲😟 But ohhh sooo relieved that it went like it did n you're both safe!!! 🤗💟 That's one of my biggest fears, drowning, after losing a lifelong friend n schoolmate in a dive cert for under ice diving 30+ yrs ago in our small towns local lake. 😥 It was a terribly heartbreaking loss due to him being young and a popular n well liked young man in our close knit community. 💔😪 My dad had been his Scout leader when he was growing up n awarded him his Eagle Scout award and it devastated my dad as he looked on him as another son almost. 😓 So seeing Sam n Jake go thru this shook me up a bit even after all these yrs n I immediately thought of my friend Larry. 😢 Just goes to show how incredibly important proper training n gear are in this hobby!! 🏞🤿💝 Thank you for sharing your story so that others may learn to be cautious while diving n follow the lessons learned in dive courses!! 🥽💞🛐🙋‍♀️

Wow! That’s scary. I’m so glad you’re both safe. Training is so important.
Won’t the dry suit protect you against jellyfish stings?

Absolutely 💯% does! But my face was exposed so if the Tentacle was to touch my skin I would’ve been in pain

I always say " don't train until you get it right. Train until you can't get it wrong." Nobody wants to do an emergency ascent but well done sam

I’m so happy you are both ok ❤️,,, In a way it’s maybe a good thing it happened with 2 experienced divers (not that I wanted it too happen) as it lets other out there who want to scuba dive see that it’s not a case of just buying the gear and getting in the water ! You need the training so you know what to do in these situations 🥰 I was surprised you both went back down again so soon, but I suppose it’s a bit like if you fall of the horse you get back on ❤️ again I am so so happy that you both are safe 💖💖

You alternate air location needed to be fixed, part of the training is to solve problems underwater and not bolt to the surface, in the end I was not there and you were ok.

Thank God that there was two of you and not one of you to safety is the best policy

ACUC, PADI, SCUBA BRONZE, you should be able to do a free ascent from your deepest dive point. under 200ft. nitrogen narcosis becomes real below that, training is paramount

Glad your ok Sam and you as well Jacob. Since in essence you both did an emergency assent. As you know you can still get hurt doing that. @5:15 you said you hit your inflator, Were you adding air or releasing air?
