I don't know anything about gravel bikes or road bikes, nor wieght weenie stuff, I'm a large ape that rides a hardtail in the black hills of south Dakota, but this is one of my favorite bicycle channels. Hands down.
Dude a hardtail is the only bike you will ever need. It isnt the best choice in all situation but can definitely handle pretty much anything, road, gravel, trails, dirtjumping anything you name, it does it.
Love the humor and personality! Love the sheer quality of your video production. But most importantly to me you are authentic and honest and I trust your opinions. Too many fake reviews out there that don't even seem to love and live cycling. I don't care about weight but I love to ticker, personalize and ride my bikes.
@@ridesofjapan Precisely why I trust you. Would trust your advice 100x more than the big cycling channels. We all have different tastes so it may not work for me but I am willing to experiment with your choices. Loving the top tube bag, saddle bag, bottle cages and Compass tires I bought thanks to you. Arigato gozaimasu!
Forgot to mention. I bought the tire bead wax through your link. Just used it and it works great, much less mess than soapy water. I’ve been doing tubeless road tires for a long time and bead wax seems like a missing link to easy tire install and seating ! Thanks!
Thank you so much for this new challenge you'll share; I love the way you share your passion and the way you talk about it; please do not change anything! looking forward to viewing the next steps!
The quality of your videos is great. I also like your humor. Enjoyed this one a lot. Great color scheme on the Allied.... Keep on riding, keep on building :-)
@@jdodd1258 I’m sure they will be more than sufficient for me. I tend to swap tires a lot sooner than “needed” anyway so longevity is not a primary concern for me.
I didn't even get that much out of my Terra Trails. They also kept seeping through the sidewall, which was annoying. The ride feel and grip level was great though.
This video really makes me appreciate my own bikes!! Thanks for sharing your experience and projects. Probably some time soon I'll give an update to my old gravel but I'll sure take under consideration that point of view of enjoying over the obsessive final weight number!
Oh boy, that's going to be interesting. About the last topic: You definitely inspired me to buy the gravel bike, because You showed, how interesting and cool life can be on a bike. And the way you present your videos ,i mean they are very positive and don't contain any negativity or mainstream stuff, they aren't very complicated. Generally it is very pleasant to watch them several times(especially about bikepacking related videos:P). It all makes you to look like a local bro, who will always help with a good advice. Normal people will not blame You if something You showed in your videos won't work on their bikes, because they have their own head on the shoulders. Keep up with the good stuff. Will wait for Your new videos as usual.
I've had the TerraSpeed 35mm (front) and 40mm (rear) over the past 2 years now, and they roll very fast on the road. You will notice the buzzing noise from them when riding on tarmac, but these are pretty fast. Only downside: They wear quite quickly.
Well I hate to see you go away from OPEN as they are truly great for mixed rides. But you love the buying, planning and building process for new rides, so I fully understand! It you don’t like the tires, I am having really good luck with René Herse Barlow Pass 38mm in a heavier sidewall. No weeping, no air loss and sweet ride. Have fun with your new project. Beautiful paint!
Love the colour mate. Looks very similar to BMC Cherry Red (TM). "This won't be a weight weeny bike project" and then continuous to give us a weight estimate 🤣🤣
Your knowledge about bikes is amazing and you seem to be so meticulous and perfectionist in whatever you do ! maybe the Japanese way of life ! but with an american frame ! hihi
This is going to be great thanks, I’ve been also on the hunt for more rider user info, challenge to get it under 7.5kg 🤙. And please once all set up a full review of the flip to road mode also Cheers
@12:41 To help you with your hobby, here is an idea: 12spd 10-45 XTR cassette, 12spd XTR chain, XX1 AXS r. derailleur, RED/FORCE 1 AXS shifters. Yeah! More planning, more speadsheets, more money!!
Fewer cables, more range, hyperglide+ for better downshifts. Since you need to re-route your hydraulic lines to do this, maybe throw in some trickstuff gravel calipers while you're at it. Helping you spend your money is so exciting!
Good luck with those Contis... They were a disaster for me. I set them up tubeless initially and was really impressed with how they felt as a GRoadie tire - fast, light, decent grip for a low profile, etc. But, they immediately started weeping sealant straight through various parts of the tire. More sealant didn't fix that problem, so I abandoned the tubeless set up in favor of Tubolito inner tubes. They punctured almost immediately. Essentially, I think in an effort to make a light and fast tire, Conti underbuilt carcass. After initially being an "oooh, feels good" moment... They became a constant frustration. Strangely, I've not had any issue at all with the Conti Terra Trail (not Speed) version. I'm sure you'll let us know how they go...
Frame colour is stunning and looking at the close-up of the BB the build quality looks superb. You mentioned frame protection film; do you have a particular favourite?
Very cool!! Also, just to throw an idea into your head for a future bike, maybe, check out Rodriguez Bandito or Outlaw (though rim brakes don't seem to be your thing). Lightweight steel.
2 of my friends bought an Open because… i don‘t want to sound scary. I just bought a Met Vinci helmet in metallic red and it would fit very well to your lovely frame. And my Checkpoint ALR in black is so boring, i should buy… 🤭
Incredible! You think you waited a while? I will never catch up with you at this rate. I'm sitting my car bringing home my Open U.P. from the build at my LBS! Got the frame 21 December. GRX brake calipers must have been on the Ever Green 😭.
I don't know anything about gravel bikes or road bikes, nor wieght weenie stuff, I'm a large ape that rides a hardtail in the black hills of south Dakota, but this is one of my favorite bicycle channels. Hands down.
You are too kind sir!
I'm not in the Black Hills, and I'm into most of those things. But 100% agree.
Me2 I ride a budget mtb hardtail as well & also ride in the Los Angeles mountains. One of my favorite biking channels 👍🏽🚴♂️

I might be your one and only fan from Lebanon🇱🇧?
Keep up the good work, you're amazing🤙🏻😍
You don’t release videos regularly, but when you do they are always highly entertaining! Quality over quantity!! Love it, thanks 👍
Liked before i watched the vid, didnt take it back after it was done. Classic quality vids!
This intro deserves an award! Amazing concept, beautifully executed. Chapeau!
Absolutely love that L39ion shirt.
Thank you for the tip about the insulation tape on the xtr pedal. I too will be doing that only on one

Your videos never fail to deliver - honestly, I can’t tell you how much I enjoy them!
Enjoy building up the new bike, looks like a great project.

That frame with that paint...gorgeous 😍😍
New RoJ-New-Frame-Day Video Day is almost as good as New Frame Day!
Love it! Keep up the awesome videos and I can't wait to see the build!
Stoked to see your new bike :)
Happy riding
Thank you again for a beautifully filmed and produced video. By far my favourite cycling channel!!!!!
Thanks for the XTR pedals seal hack!

The good thing about the Terra Speed ist: if you don’t like them, they need to be replaced anyways after 1000km
If I don’t like them, I won’t even wait for that 😁

So much effort was put into this intro/backdrop
Great video!
Outstanding filming and presentation. Enjoyable watch.
Also thanks for being honest with the reasoning on the new bike. I'm not alone 👍
King of the B Roll, always so nice

Congrats man... looks amazing, look forward to the build video
Man, you are good at this. What a great intro.
That color looks fantastic. Great choice and will definitely stand out when you are out on the road
this is such a beautifully conceived, creative introduction...hats off sir!
Very very nice choice. Can't wait for the full build.

This video gives me more joy than my regular sunday ride 🖖🏻 keep up great work mate, cheers.
Amazing looking bike! Congrats. I can't wait to see the finished project.
Awesome weight weenie video,I got myself a weight weenie scale a few day's ago,it super accurate compared to a kitchen scale.Safe training.
amazing intro as always.

This ^^...great tire and fast, but they do wear quickly
The good thing is that we might get a video about his new tire choice and maybe a weight reducing wheel upgrade 😆
What a guy, what a whip! Peeps don't care for reviews, they'd just buy the bike you ride, cause you so cool:)
Peace!!
This is some of the best cycling videos ive ever seen love vids my guy. Have u ever thought about buying a mountain bike ?
I see new RoJ video, I must watch it
That is one gorgeous bike!

I ran the Terraspeeds (38) @ BWR San Diego... they handled everything well.

Go to Hollywood ! GREAT VIDEO
My guess was so close! I miss read the tire size. Thought it was a 42mm and thought you had ordered the Able. But the Echo is a stunner. 🤤
I’ve been using the control tech cougar aerobar with the center hole.
I’ll be honest, I let out a “Damnnnnnn” when it turned out you got an Allied frame 😎
Always such excellent visual storytelling - very inspiring! Now to try to make my videos a bit more slick 😂
Your videos are so f-ing fantastic. 👏
Enjoying less weight weenie stuff.Cool intergraded gear. I just got my new bike finished.
Looks like a great build!! Nice!!!
Allied Able…for me…love the channel…circus!

On my Terra Speeds, the creme color turned yellow pretty quickly... Thankfully some 650b wheels just arrived, giving me an excuse to get new tires!

indeed, I'm very frustrated the new cable casing/housing being rubbed/worn out by handlebar bag after a long long bikepacking trip.
If I was doing a lightweight gravel bike, I’d definitely be going for the new Cannondale Supersix Evo SE
ben tornato!

You might need to add air weight pumped into tires, which is about 12~16 grams each, depending on tire size and pressure.
