Thank you for the boat tour. I have a 1973 Seawolf 40, which is similar to your boat. There are a few things I like about your layout. Your boat is nine years newer and has a few more upgrades.
Hello, Thanks much for watching and for leaving a comment!! Gotta love there Leaky Teakys as they are referred to!! I absolutely love my Island Trader!! I will have to bring up some pics of a 1973 Seawolf and check it out in Sailboat Data.com.. Have you done a boat tour video?
Hello Martin 👋 Thanks for watching, agreed and much appreciated!! She does have a really beautiful interior.... I just put on a 2 new coats of Bottom paint and I am in the process of rebuilding the Bowsprit platform. I am going to use Ipe instead of Teak... I believe its going to look amazing... many more updates and improvements planned as I move ahead. Stay tuned for more episodes and please feel free to subscribe to my channel. Take Care and Stay Safe!! 🙂
Thanks Bro!!! She is already one of my lifes greatest Loves.. Looking forward to sharing all the adventures that lay in wait as she takes me near and far. 😎⛵⛵⛵⛵
Great stuff only 200 made huh incredible! The time the builders took hand carved the doors ect. The man hours it took overall to create such a vessel is incredible. Congratulations once again and smooth sailing!⛵

Chop Sticks is a boat right after my own heart, from the beautiful shearline down to the exposed chain plates and the butterfly hatches. And you have proper bulwarks! 👌 For the life of me I don't get the contemporary fashion of next to nothing bulwarks! Bulwarks are there to keep the decks dry a little longer and to stop dropped items from going for a deep six! Beauty is important to me, I love the arts and I enjoy having beautiful things around me. I'm afraid many of today's designs seem to devalue form focusing entirely on function. The result is ugly boats, so if we value aesthetics we must look behind us to find elegance.
Hello and thanks much for watching and for the comments!! I can tell you have a good eye for design. She is most definitely a true beauty and I honestly love everything about her!! I feel quite fortunate to be her captain. 😎⛵🥢
Great question!!! Sorry I do not know the cross sectional dimensions… I do have a good resource for you though… If you are on Facebook there is a group called “Friends of the Island Trader 37 and Magellan 36”… I would most definitely recommend joining the group!! I have seen several posts related to replacing masts on our boats.. It has been a terrific resource for me…
@@ketchingmy2ndwindsvchopsticks Can I ask a favor for you to measure it. It should be something like 7 1/2" X 5 1/2" or perhaps 8" X 6". Just use a ruler. thank you.
Hey 👋 . I have just watched your video. Wowser she is a gorgeous girl. I am in the Uk ( Gosport) iv been looking for a boat that I can single hand a round the world 🌍 in my retirement. I think I’ve found the boat I would like. So I’m going to start looking 👀. 😘🙏

@@ketchingmy2ndwindsvchopsticks yes retirement is only a year away so all is good . I’m am very interested in the your next video about repowering your boat. I’m thinking electric motor. 😁😁🇬🇧😘🙏
Sweet!!! My retirement is close at hand too!! I looked into a 30ho liquid cooled electric yacht motor for about $9k but the battery bank is where it seemed to get expensive… I also looked into a new Beta Marine 35hp Diesel for about 15k…. To be honest I would lo go Electric but I have to set the repower project aside in lieu of other more pressing boat projects. But please stay tuned… a new motor will be coming at some point.. Wishing you fair winds and following sea 🌊… 😎⛵️🥢🏴☠️🤙
The stuffing box “packing” for my setup is flax infused square packing cord… I loosen a jam nut that’s holds a compression sleeve in place.. the compression sleeve is what creates some pressure on the packing cord iwhich in turn creates a seal on the prop shaft… There are three main components to my setup which is considered a traditional stuffing box: the stuffing box body, the compression sleeve, and a jam nut that locks the compression sleeve in place. You may be better keeping the drip less seal setup u have… I think to replace the dripless seal you may have to slide the prop shaft out a bit… Have you watched any videos on replacing a dripless seal or convert from dripless back to the traditional setup??? I can check the diameter of my prop shaft and let you know
I’m looking to buy a Island Trader 38 that’s local to me right now. Unfortunately it needs a new main mast and mizzen mast, But he’s willing to sell for a reasonable price. How would I go about finding a new mast / mizzen, I’m assuming they don’t just have spares laying around somewhere for me to buy.
If you are on facebood there is a group dedicated to the Island Trader 38 and the Megellan 37.. The Magellan 37 was the precursor to the Island Trader 38... the guy who started it is named Donnie Studer. Below is the link. That would be a great place to look for ideas on how best to replace the mizzen mast. I have seen posts of people building new masts from wood. I hope that helps. If the link doesnt work for some reason just search for "Friends of the Island Trader 37 & Magellan 36" best wishes on the boat possible purchase. These are really amazing and classically beautiful sailboats!! facebook.com/groups/121057548191/?ref=share
My dripless seal on the shaft of my Island Trader 37/38 is leaking. Does anyone know the make/model of the original one so I can purchase an exact fit?
Thanks much for watching and the question. Unfortunately I don’t have a dripless stuffing box seal…. Mine uses the packing cord which I believe is 1/4 inch….
Hello and no biggie... I would be curious too. I got an unbelievable deal on her. My timing was spot on as the seller was experiencing some health issues and he owned several other boats he wanted to sell. In addition, although she was on the hard the bilge was just about overflowing with water because during winter storage the tarps used to cover her had failed allowing alot of rain water to get in. All that being said I bought her for $6,500. She does nees some work but thats to be expected.

@@ketchingmy2ndwindsvchopsticks Most people do not film vertically because it's displayed on yt horizontally. But if you're filming a clever joke mainly intended for fb, vertical still gets the point across.
Thanks for expanding on your initial comment. Filming vertically was an unintentional mistake to be very honest. It displays a narrow window of view which I did not care for. At some point I realuzed that I needed to hold my phone differently and adjust some of the camera settings. However, a few episodes later I invested in a GoPro Hero9 which has helped improve the quality of the video I upload.
