Roy Scheider automatically makes any film awesome.
This was a roller coaster ride of a movie! Kept the action going all along.
We need more movies like this!
In terms of the helicopter movie, this is one and only. I like this muscular helicopter design.
Try russian "Black Shark" movie from 1993.
Its an AS 341 Gazelle, heavy modified and difficult to fly. We all loved the blue thunder and almost cried when it got destroyed.
That bridge scene is the best in the movie! - AWESOME!!!
A scene that couldn’t be filmed today according to the film’s director John Badham who did a interesting review via Joe Dante’s TRAILERS FROM HELL
Making a phone call from a helicopter using built-in communication system in the 80's. Fascinating. 🖖
It was possible in the 80s. My brother and grandfather knew how, it required someone with a base station radio to patch the radio into the phone after dialing the number. It wouldn't be full-duplex though (ie. couldn't talk and listen at the same time)
The helicopter was established to be designed for surveillance. It had all sorts of cameras, infrared vision, mic's that could listen through windows, ability to remotely search police records etc, and could tap phone calls. It was meant to be the ultimate infringement on civil liberties which is why Schieder stole it so he could be a whistle blower. So it made sense that this helicopter could make a phone call.
@@rolo3762 and still, in the context of the film, it’s not the least realistic thing shown. Just in the two clips I watched, he took out two heat-seeking mussels, a fighter jet and two pool ice helicopters, with no collateral loss of life.
I remember watching this in the theatre. Boy those were great times. Just as exciting watching it again.
Same here; as a young teenager this was mindblowing good and "realistic". Watching it now; still holds up with 99% of the so called action movies these days....in my humble opnion that is.
I love Roy Scheider's wife (Candy Clark). A real strong female character and a hell of a driver. That woman takes no sh*t from anyone and so cute. Reminds me of my daughter's mother.
I've watched this movie a million times, still aging well because of the real helicopter stunts and car chases; good script, great music score and Oscar worthy performances; no CGI and no message or lectures.
Still a good movie even after all these years.
They used a Gazelle helicopter for this movie and it was heavily modified for the part. Heavy being the key word there. It was reported at the time that the extended canopy shifted the weight of the helicopter so that close to 70% of the weight was in front, causing it to be nose heavy. Stunt pilots could only fly it for 15 minutes before becoming fatigued and it could not fly backwards any longer. Flying backwards was what they had to do to get it hover.
Yes, the loop was done with a model...but anyway we all wanted to fly the blue thunder.
So that’s what Murphy meant when he said “This thing’s nose is heavier than the Ayatollah” 😂
Btw, both of the Blue Thunder gazelles were later used as Russian gunships in the ABC miniseries Amerika.
@@coolcat6303 I remember that, now that you mention it.
The most unbelievable part of this is that corporate media cares about exposing corruption
Classic 80s films, much better than today’s chrap!
Loved this movie. As good as T2
It’s my favorite Roy Schreider movie!
That's a great girl he's got there. Wow. Above and beyond.
they knew how to make movies back then in my husband’s childhood
My uncle and auntie would always take my mom and me to all the newest movies. They would take my cousin and I to pizza hut. Nearest theater was 35 min away. This brings me back to some really fond memories. All have passed 😢
You would think that the Police Helocopter crew, seeing that Blue Thunder had a mini gun at the front, would realise they are vastly out gunned. The moment the pilot traverses the mini gun in your direct, you know you are screwed
Candy Clark had a certain understated appeal & charm ☀️
A real movie!
奥さんを助けに橋の下から出てくるところ今見てもしびれるわ!
Pickwick drive in, where my wife and I first saw Star Wars. Convenient as we lived in Burbank.
Now the site of a supermarket I believe.
That brown car is badass.
Chevy Vega
The Drive in movie theater looks like they same one they used in the film 'Heat"
Right speed for cops
I’m suddenly painfully jealous of 1980s movie audiences.
Yeah, they had drive-ins
😂😂😂
@@redswingline262 Most of the world didn't have them. Mainly parts of the US (and not even in every State) and a few warmer countries like Australia.
It was a great time. Simpler in many ways and a ton less “connected”. Social media and the internet has helped so many things and is a great tool sadly it’s also destructive.
懐かしい〰️!💦
ロイシャイダー!
宙返りで敵を倒す!😊
I did find a post production photo during the making of Blue Thunder.
Actually there was two Blue Thunder helicopter built for this movie, apart from the RC model used for the inverted close up shots.
Yep. And both of the Blue Thunder gazelles were used a few years later as Russian gunships in the ABC miniseries Amerika.
At 25-26 seconds is the sexiest nanosecond in TV history when Kate says, "Got it." That was a determined look on a woman's face who is about to go on a mission, and she will not be deterred.
That has stuck with me since I first saw it in theaters back in '83.
the insured😊
Great esenes
At 7:02 and 8:53, 2 scenes that still look amazing today.
That woman was a better driver than any stuntman 😂
They don’t make movies the way they did in the 80, eh? John Badham - great director!
It's funny when you watch movies set in L.A. and you recognize parts of San Andreas.
Or L.A.
Man, I miss the drive-in theater, so much fun
Immer noch ein geiler Film .
Don't mess with Mrs Murphy.
うわっ、懐かしい~。やっぱり戦闘ヘリって独特のカッコ良さがあるなぁ。アクションとしては市街地でもいけるから各段に面白いし。
I loved how Blue Thunder the movie merged into AirWolf the series.
Airwolf started out as a 1983 Magnum P.I. episode starring Willie Lucking (probably best known as Piney Winston in Sons Of Anarchy) as an ex-military pilot turned Indiana Jones-like adventurer who crashed a small plane into Magnum's pool, he was supposed to get a spin-off but it never got green-lit. Glen A. Larson and Donald P. Belisario, creators of Magnum P.I. then rewrote the pilot episode of the failed spin-off and it became Airwolf.
Blue Thunder had it's own tv series that went up against Airwolf, it aired January - April, 1984 and was cancelled after 11 episodes mostly because Airwolf, which aired from Jan. 1984 - August 1987, was more popular, probably because it had one of the best themes of all time.
@@ll7868 Airwolf is still one of my favorite theme songs ever. Airwolf and Miami Vice themes are the only reason I know who Jan Hammer is. 😀
@@ll7868 It's not just the theme, the series Airwolf was just better overall...saying this though I LOVE Bluethunder!
@@zepedrofd Personally I watched both shows but I liked Airwolf better too, I think it would tear Blue Thunder a new exhaust-hole in a real head-to-head. BUT my brother has a 6' Airwolf replica that he paid nearly $5K (CND) for back in 2012 and never lets anyone fly it, so after he tells me he'll let me fly it when he's dead and he wills it to me I said "Blue Thunder's better anyway" which really pissed him off so I keep doing it.
"Relámpago Azul".... 😝😝😝😝😝 En Latam llegó a relámpago. En España, era Trueno. 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
¡Qué grandes tiempos aquellos.! ¡Qué grandes series.! 🥰
ロイさんは記憶に焼き付いてます🎉
I❤ this move before airwolf

日本語吹替版というのが、熱いですね(^^)😊
Who in their right mind thought that they could go against an Apache look alike & heavily armed helicoptor.😂
Anyone else felt a bit like this could have been a mission movie in gta5? The chopper, the car, of course the city.
There is not DAMN way Blue Thunder would out fly that 500 series helicopter.
The drive-in theater was used 11 years later in Heat
Thought the same when I saw it. But everything is done 'big' in USA so over here in Ireland, we thought Drive In's were really common there and thus were in awe as kids of what you had ... and we didn't.
(I mean, Ireland never even had a single motor way until 1994😂... true!)
高校時代に彼女と二人で観ました傑作映画。ロイ・シャイダーめっちゃ恰好良かった^^ !!
If you like this you've got'ta see the airplane /helicopter chase scene in Fandango . Crazy Hippie & Cops . In Texas . Probably the best college roadtrip , easily the all time greatest college roadtrip movie ever made in my humble openion . If you can think of a better one please let me know thanks .
I was conflicted as a kid as to which was better, airwolf or blue thunder? They both seemed so potential and cool.
🤔then i ditched all that for Galaxie 500!
Always said this deserves a modern remake..
4:09 Real pros, pointing the weapon towards the rotor.
C était une bonne série. Dommage qu elle n'est pas durée très longtemps...
“Catch you later“
I saw that movie abroad as a late night show (2200 hours) with a live lector reading dialogues. He was a bit hesitant to read offensive words ...
They don't make movies like this any more

What's a disabled cop car without a dying siren
Did they ever allude to where prototype 01 was? The helicopter we see displays 02 on both engine exhausts.
Thought same
technically it's not the engine exhaust. The engine exhaust can be seen on the helicopter. That nice shiny tube in the back.
(background information: The helicopter was created from an SA341 Gazelle helicopter, as information can be found in many places on the net)
But why 02 is on the side of the helicopter, I have already thought about it many times
From what I read on that subject many years ago according to the writers, the 02 was the second prototype of the Apache helicopter program, with the 01 being what they called the Longbow Apache. Both prototypes being vastly different.
Those are neither exhausts or intakes, probably cosmetic to make the thing look more imposing. Good question though.
I always thought of them as armor plates to protect the engine
Junior did it 😊

Using this kind of of police firepower was a nightmarish horror in the 1980's.......that is slowly and sadly coming true
