Yes Haven was Sutton's understudy on Broadway. This performance was filmed while she was the understudy. And yes, she did go on as full-time Fiona on the National Tour.
I'm gonna say this nicely because I love Sutton Foster, I really do, but please stop comparing Haven to her because she's not her, she's her own actress. No, Haven may not play it as "bipolar" as Sutton does, but maybe that's just not HER interpretation of the role. She's making the role her own instead of being an exact replica of Sutton. Keep in mind also that Haven worked very hard to make it to where she is now, and even though she may not be as well-known as Sutton, she's living the dream, and we should respect her for that! Again, I love Sutton, I really do, and I'm not bashing her, but please quit comparing Haven to her because I love her too!
I dont think we expect them to be perfect but we expect the same quality as the first. And in my opinion Haven doesn't have the chops and is unable to throw her voice around(at this point in her career) the way Sutton can. And because Haven can't do that the scenes that are over the top just seem over the top and get no laughs where when Sutton did them, she did them in a way that made it funny not just over the top. I also prefer Suttons Reno over Patti Lapones. Sutton takes a character and really becomes at ease with it. She throws her voice, and her comedy, around as well as staying on pitch and in the moment. There's a reason she's the best. So it's unfair to tell everyone to stop comparing when I compare all new female acts to Sutton. I don't like Idina or Kristen really even though they are royalty. I still think Sutton is better lol. Tbh no matter what fandom you choose to join, movies, broadway, music, comedy, drag, everyone compares to everyone else. It's the way we created this world.
I think that Sutton is more playful and bipolar, I love her, but I love Haven as well, she plays such a sweet and dreamy Fiona and not to mention her voice and dance moves are so good! I can't do that tap dancing and then sing. They chose a really good understudy for Sutton.
I love haven so much! She makes such a good Fiona! You shouldn't have to compare her to someone else, she's a different person and plays the part beautifully!
i preferred her as gingy. shes an amazing singer but sutton gives that fiona bipolar effect off better, she can act really angry but then super hyper. think personally sutton has more energy and chrisma. she gives it more and acts more into it. haven has an amazing voice but is too sweet tbh.
there's probably two sets of actors. One set has the rats shoes and they leave when the curtain comes down and a second set comes up from behind them to do the dance in the suits. Then, the original set comes back on stage in the suits after they've had time to change their shoes
I actually PREFER Haven's voice and youthful edge. She seems slightly more zany and soulful than Sutton, in my opinion. However, you absolutely cannot beat Sutton's charisma and energy though her ENTIRE performance. Haven looks a bit tired here, but then again I'm comparing this clip to a professionally taped version of the Original Broadway Cast...
I agree. Like, Sutton acts out the whole "bipolar" thing better and kind of gives it more. Like the faces that she made and her voice. But I do like Haven's voice, though I'd rather her be the Sugar Plum Fairy and Gingy...
im gonna say this right now out of respect for the actors and characters, most of you will say you prefer sutton because her portray of fiona is what you guys think is what she is suppose to be. But that’s not true. characters are all up to interpretation, I understand if you say her skills aren’t as good as sutton, but haven sings just as good. personally i dont mind haven as fiona i just didnt like her dance break part because her facial expressions, but maybe thats because she normally doesnt go on for fiona and shes not use to it. so everyone saying haven isnt good at fiona is not true. she of course will never act the same as sutton’s portray because they are two different actors. if everyone tried to portray the same exact character it would be boring. get over it and stop comparing.

She's good but doesn't seem to convey that bi-polar Fiona that Sutton does. The piper also seems like they are just reading a script or something, doesn't sound or look frustrated at all unlike his words.
@BARussell4 I'm assuming it's just an evolving thing. . .like the difference between the seattle production and this one. . . tweaking and improving as the run progresses.
I think I like haven better than sutton in this...I mean sutton is good on acting.... But when I hear hit "wide awake" I fall on the fall dyeing because it's so good
BOTH are amazing! But haven does seem a bit more tires than Sutton does at the end, and Sutton has a bit more experience, have you seen her in Anything Goes tap!? OMG!
Sutton makes fiona the weird, derpy, bipolar princess we all love and relate to. I loved Haven as the sugarplum fairy and gingy so much better than her as fiona. Sutton has the face and mannerisms that make the character come alive.
Lol she threw the recorder way too high and the Pied Piper didn't catch it and the ending bit where she swings her arm into Piper's arm but she did it too early so it got all muddled up! There should be an award for Sutton for best timing.
i dont like Haven in Fiona's character, needs more sentiment when she is not dancing, the rats shine more that her, not offense, and the sings doent like much =s
She has real Broadway talent great talent: singing, dancing, acting. In fact everyone on that stage deserves to be there.

That's the thing I've always hated about Broadway. Everyone after the og cast is just supposed to be perfect like the original.

EXACTLY! They are both really talented actresses, but the are both really different!
@@Alexp36500 sutton is a better comic but haven's voice is miles better, what are you talking about lol
I had the privilege of seeing Haven live as Fiona on TOUR and she was AMAZING! Such talent, such beauty! UGH!!!!
Reading the comments really make you feel for understudies
Haven Burton is amazing. I love, love, love her sense of humor.
I think that Sutton is more playful and bipolar, I love her, but I love Haven as well, she plays such a sweet and dreamy Fiona and not to mention her voice and dance moves are so good! I can't do that tap dancing and then sing. They chose a really good understudy for Sutton.
She was Fiona when I saw Shrek life! SO talented! I loved her during "I Know It's Today", she was hilarious!
the bit at 0:31 is SUPERB
people always forget that she was also a dragonette as well as the sugar plum fairy and gingy
I love how from :30-:40 she goes from so awesome and intense to soft and playful. That's a remarkably versatile set of pipes she's got there.
i just drank six cups of coffee...
yes, fiona, we noticed
:)
I love haven so much! She makes such a good Fiona! You shouldn't have to compare her to someone else, she's a different person and plays the part beautifully!
So much talent here
Also... STOP COMPARING HER TO SUTTON THEY SHOULDNT BE EXACT COPIES OF EACH OTHER
wow, this looks absolutly amazing!! I want more!! thanks for uploading !!
That's tap number amazes me everytime
I think haven Burton is singing beautifully
2:02 Her voice almost sounded like Serena from Pokemon. I know she's her voice actor but that was the same pitch she used for her. 😊😊
i preferred her as gingy. shes an amazing singer but sutton gives that fiona bipolar effect off better, she can act really angry but then super hyper. think personally sutton has more energy and chrisma. she gives it more and acts more into it. haven has an amazing voice but is too sweet tbh.
if I also think that it is better with the role of gyngy it is more like that character but they chose it for something, right?
Camila arroyo she was Sutton’s understudy on Broadway. For the National Tour however Haven was full time Fiona
SHE WAS FANTASTIC!!! Ugh LOVE HER!!!
her eyeshadow omg
You go Haven Burton

They’re both amazing! I prefer Haven’s voice for Fiona over Sutton, but they’re both still amazing!
I love both!both are amazing!so shut it!
Obviously everyone would prefer Sutton, but for an u/s she's not half bad! She has amazing charisma and an amazing voice
3:18 and beyond, the dancing is amazing.
Haven is also known for playing Serena from Pokémon XY & Z.
I prefer Sutton Foster by a long shot, but her voice is astounding! Just not a Fiona in my opinion
Abigail Philpott she was way better in half time
Haven did great!! ^_^

Suttons a much better dancer, but I actually like Havens voice a lot. She has a really nice take on it and doesn't disappoint. Really great!

My birthday!
I think her voice verges on shouting at times, but impressive regardless! She's a great Fiona!
Haven was in the National Tour cast.
She's good but doesn't seem to convey that bi-polar Fiona that Sutton does. The piper also seems like they are just reading a script or something, doesn't sound or look frustrated at all unlike his words.
I prefer Sutton, but I love Haven Burton
I saw Haven in the tour! She's no Sutton, but she was still amazing!!!
She played Gingy, Dragon and Fiona!
0:31 holy shit
I would prefer sutton too. I think Haven would be best just to be a sugar plum fairy.
She has to play Barbara Maitland!
I love shrek the musical
put havens singing with sutton's dancing and you have one fucking good fiona (no hate to sutton i love her voice too)
She is Serena!
Ta-da!
@BARussell4 I'm assuming it's just an evolving thing. . .like the difference between the seattle production and this one. . . tweaking and improving as the run progresses.
She was also the Sugar Plum Fairy
Serena? Is that you?
@SkittlesSarahxx I believe this was her first time onstage in the role before an audience, so mistakes are forgivable.
Does she sound like Serena to you?
She is haven paschalls full name is haven paschall burton
She IS Serena.
OMG!
she is the real princess fiona fiona hef blue eyes
I’ve never noticed this before, but in the tap section she looks so much like Charlotte D’Amboise
agree! i wont see this in London because there just isn't a decent cast! and the show has been slated over here (uk) because of it.
@TheWedjie How do they do it in London?
I wish I could make birds explode when I sing! :3
So when i'm understand that right (i'm German) is this "morning person which is here on TH-cam with sutton from the tryouts! Is that right?
@littlepipandcowbell Well I didn't know that so mistakes are indeed forgivable.
Do you have the full show
Sutton makes fiona the weird, derpy, bipolar princess we all love and relate to. I loved Haven as the sugarplum fairy and gingy so much better than her as fiona. Sutton has the face and mannerisms that make the character come alive.
Nossa demais *___*
This choreography is different than what sutton did, is this specific for haven that seems confusing or did they just change it?
Can we trade for this
@myace1997 If she was rubbish why would she have the part?
Haven was the Understudy?
Wow she moved up! I remember when she was the Ginger Bread Man and the Sugar Plum Fairy.
I much prefer her voice to the ridiculously squeeky one on the cast recording =]
Is it just me or does she kinda look like Cameron Diaz. Well.. compared to Sutton at least
I prefer Sutton Sutton is hilarious at Fiona and the faces and her voice is amazing and funny at the same time
I liked this, she was great, but Sutton put more comedy in it. And Sutton's voice is more peaceful and girly and that's what I like.
@myace1997 sorry, what gives you the right to say that?? unless your amazing, i'd shut up.
Is this Sutton's understudy? Or was this after she left?
Is it for trade
Prongs would feel insulted XD
Lol she threw the recorder way too high and the Pied Piper didn't catch it and the ending bit where she swings her arm into Piper's arm but she did it too early so it got all muddled up! There should be an award for Sutton for best timing.
i like her, but sutton handles the end of the rat tap better but i like haven's voice better
When I sing this I have to change the I haven’t met my husband yet and he wraps me in his massive arms because I’m a lesbian
POST FREAK FLAG
like the choreography better in this version.
the last section is very shouty, so she obviously is very out of breath! but fair play to her! i couldnt sing like that after dancing! xx
All I see is Serena. My 9 year old mind has tainted me.
Ta-da!
unpopular opinion: i think sutton is overrated and her voice is kind of annoying... but thats just me.
i’m here to say that in the past ten months my view on sutton foster has changed completely and i want to be her when i grow up
She has a great voice but she doesn't have the same touch Sutton put in it. I always laugh at Sutton's version of this song here I was just...bored
sutton is better
i dont like Haven in Fiona's character, needs more sentiment when she is not dancing, the rats shine more that her, not offense, and the sings doent like much =s
She's great, but I still think I like Sutton...
sutton fosters singing is way better
Sutton is better, looks more natural
Sutton's voice is way better! It seems like Sutton has a better stage presence and personality,
Sutton just has so much more personality
eh, kinda yells it... 0.o
Sutton foster was a way better Fiona
She bores me. Just sayin.
Very weak and lifeless performance. It's like she was just there for a paycheck
