- I put as many different portrayals here as I could. If a certain actor doesn't appear here I either couldn't find or didn't have audio/video of them singing the song, or they didn't perform the role until after the video was published.

In their defense, this song is known as one of the hardest songs on Broadway.
No offense meant, but like, really? Do people consider it hard?
I just think that it would depend on whether or not the singer is comfortable in the tessitura, since it's not a super broad range. Besides that there's the one "high" note, which isn't very high at all. The only thing that would make that note hard, is if a singer tries to do a pure belt rather than a mix-belt.
Not trying to downplay the talent of these women. Just saying that certain songs are easier for certain voice types, and I don't think this song is overly hard for people of the correct voice type.
You can't just look at the notes of a song to determine whether its a difficult sing. So Much Better is written in a way that is constantly building at breakneck pace, on top of the fact that you actually have to act it. LBB puts her heart and soul into it, compromising the total sound of the piece, whilst the Tour Elle from the Tony Awards sounds lovely but is boring to watch because she just has nothing going on.
One note does not a hard sing make, but 3 minutes of building upto that one note certainly can be difficult when you take into account everything that goes into a singular show of Legally
Chelsea Checkington I’m a singer, this song (note wise) is well within my range. The difficulty of the song comes from the speed, the constant modulating, the fact that the phrasing makes it difficult to get a breath in and the fact that the final note is about 12 bars long, which is close to the length of a single audition cut. It is a DIFFICULT song. Most Sondheim songs aren’t very “range-y”, either, but they’re still incredibly hard to sing.
yes. if you sing it all the way through it is very challenging to support your breath while belting the “than before” in the end.
This song is perfect for my voice. I know much harder songs. I think this song is hard for people because it has lots of physical activity. Some people are better at holding notes than others.

I was working on Broadway at the time of Legally Blonde's run. It's common knowledge that aside from on the soundtrack & the MTV performance, LBB wasn't able to complete the run at the end of the song for most of her performances. This isn't me throwing shade, but it's still a good performance from her even if she didn't complete the run.

broadway stars absolutely DREAD interview performances. they are typically shot in the morning, and that’s very strange for a star’s voice as they are used to having an entire day to warm up and prep. it most likely that she realized halfway, “hey i can’t really hit this note right now and if i do, i might hurt my voice for the show tonight.” she made a smart choice

@@kristen4539 i mean this song is a bloody difficult song to sing if you're putting your all into it like LBB, and she didn't even hold the last note for as long as it was meant to be for the mtv performance. but when you have to exude energy and bounce around on stage while belting your heart out, i'd imagine it's really hard to keep that up especially if you're the main performer and have to do eight shows a week.

Rhiannon sounds as if she might’ve been a little under the weather in that recording. I understand how hard it is to go on TV when you aren’t feeling the best and just having to push through.
After LBB, Lauren is one of my favorites, even if she was only Elle for a few weeks. Considering she was 18 during the MTV reality show she was only 19, *maybe* 20 when she did the tour. I'm 19 now, and even though I've been performing my entire life I can't imagine being in her position. She was amazing.
It is also really cool hearing the climax of this song in other languages. Props to those ladies for taking it on.
LBB will once again forever be my #1 queen she just struggled on the live MTV recording and we all know she can hit that note in her sleep. But I think Haven and Susan sounded fantastic as well!
Can we just appreciate how global this show is. The translated songs are so good too, don’t loose the original flow either. Props to them!

Alyssa Gorgone: The fact they where perfoming in a mall with basic mics, I thought she did great!
Leanine Smith: She was so good! Those couple of tweaks made her really stand out and made the performance great
Lucie Jones: She was good, she was on time with the music.. Thats about it

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Laura Bell Bundy, but she was really straining a lot of the time she sung this and you could hear how tired her voice was. I do think that there were some really good ones in here, Haven Burton, Amy Lennox, Ashley Moniz, Emma Bateman, etc. Anyway, I definitely don't think she was the best at this song, but the best at the role overall👍
