The old testament is literally a story about a foul tempered and idiotic god making mistake after mistake and blaming the people. And then demonstrates it's rage and unjustness by inflicting _wildly_ inappropriate punishments. All the while it condones slavery, commands genocide, accepted human sacrifice, and commands death for s e x acts.

You actually have it backwards. Enki or what Christians call Satan or what the Mayans called Quetzalcoatl etc was an extraterrestrial from Sirius responsible for helping humanity revolt against his tyrannical brother Enlil or Yahweh. He was assisted by the Jinn or 5th dimensional Plieadians in giving his hybridized already existing prehistoric sapiens, humans, a soul/consciousness. Who Enlil prior to the Tower of Babel degraded human perception to no longer perceive the Jinn.
However Enki had his own motives when we eventually overthrew and murdered his brother. Then the Orions came who destroyed the Sirian homeworld and were directly responsible for pinning the Sirians here in the first place, found them.
Wiped out Enki’s genetically modified human hybrids and animal alike, the Nephilim, under a mass flood. Killed the rest of the Sirian people, and maimed them like dogs. Then took an interest in the surviving numbers of their best creation. The perfect work race. Homosapiens.

If you believe the bible, maybe. I mean technically, Jews are polytheists if they are really serious about the Torah. They never said that other gods aren't real, they just said that their god is the strongest. Which means, ancient Jews very much believed those other gods existed, which was the rule more than the exception.

The need to believe what another believes is not necessary to see an alternate perspective, mankind does it with every story we tell no matter the medium or genre; movies and manuscripts, heroes and victims. Yea? So the issue we face, as one such as I suggest to read the narrative of this book, is I one of stigma and it's grand claims. I get this...
Reading the narrative of the Old Testament (The Jewish Torah) will show the exchange - dialogue - between God for the sake of his covenant with man, and man due to their choices the results in bestowing good people to lesser gods; just as dialog with the 'Divine Council' of Elohim (spirits).
The story is fascinating. And if it is true, as I do believe it is, all things we've ever been shown in media ALL may be true and real to a degree we may never be able to measure until the end of time when it's all revealed.

Unlike the gods of the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans who were arbitrary and cruel, punishing the people that worshiped them just for amusement, the God of Abraham and Jesus, judged the Jew's offenses with the intention of reforming their disobedience to agreed upon behavior. Well he rescued them from slavery, promised to take care of them in every way imaginable, spiritually and materially.
If you read about the nation of Israel in the Bible, they had a perfect set of principles and laws that perfectly protected them.
No other nation before, during or after had the potential they had.
Also, they agreed to be obedient and they also agreed to suffer the consequences of disobedience.
God tries to help us but no matter how bad we have it, a lot of times we don’t want his help, we have an independent spirit of rebelliousness.
Granted, terrible things happen to people and it wasn’t as a result of something they did i.e. cause and effect.
But that’s what the Bible says about random unforeseen occurrences but it’s so important to keep in mind that the world we’re living in is temporary, things aren’t going to keep going on like this.
Everything has been building to a crescendo and we can see it happening right now, from Abraham would come the seed, Jesus.
The Israelites and mosaic law was the childhood of Christianity.
Jesus would accomplish what Adam failed at, keeping integrity to the end.
It’s very important to understand why Jesus came to earth, he was a perfect man like Adam, he balanced the scales by maintaining his integrity.
By doing so, we all have the hope of everlasting life on a paradise earth soon to come.

Damn. This is exactly what happens. I've read the Bible many times and this kept happening to the Hebrews. And Jordan is right they did keep making mistakes(sinning) and God corrected them, blessed them, set them on the right path but they did it again and again. I found this same pattern in my life. God keeps telling us the answer but we think we know a better way and we backslide. As God tells us, "The duty of man is to obey God."
It's a lesson we have to learn over and over again. God is our path, guide and destination. And Jesus came to us to show us the best example. Jesus said that He is the Way, The Truth and The Life. As our example Jesus lived a perfect and sinless life and died for our sin so that through His death and Resurrection we may have eternal life with Him. Jesus is waiting for you with open arms. His steadfast love endures forever. Jesus will never leave you nor forsake you. You may go through trials and tribulations but Jesus will be there with you to give you the guidance, strength and courage to triumph. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior we are more than conquerors.
