Don't make the same mistake that I made. I am 49. Two years ago, I did not spend enough time reacquiring my balance and board control. I was able to do some decent ollies. So I tried to do a kickflip. Ended up going primo and falling down. This awkward landing on my board broke my foot at the arch. I had to use a knee scooter for 3 months and put no weight on my left foot. I will get back on someday soon. But I will take my time this go.
Get that balance and control first. Then slowly work your way up to tricks that involve any kind of jumping. That's just my two cents.

My 2 year old daughter saw my skateboard in storage and asked "wha dis dada?" When I said Skateboard she repeated it like 20 times we got out once last year before winter hit and just got back out this past weekend. It was so cool to have her ride with me and to hold her hand while she rides at almost 2 and a half....my old 7.75 ccs blank is sketching me out so I'm thinking it's time for an 8.75 to stay stable and dial in some ollies to be able to ride anywhere and everywhere. Definitely going to get her a 7.00 mini so we can ride together. I appreciate that you're not talking to me in this video but I'll be checking out the Ollie tips to relearn and clean up my rolling tricks. Thank you Aaron and Braille for keeping it simple and getting people skating. Make America Skate Again lol

37 here. Was great in my teens. Got back into skating at 33. Fell hard thinking I could still do the same tricks and got bad elbow sprains. Learned real quick that you fall harder and take longer to heal in your 30s. Nice thing about skating in 30s is I wear a helmet and ankles braces and dont care what anyone thinks of me. While i cant do all the advanced tricks i used to do, still having a blast with what I’ve relearned. Great way to get exercise and decompress after a stressful day. Thank you for making videos like this for us older folks that need a different approach than a kid that can just “send it” and keep falling.

I'm 47, Found the Braille youtube channel about 6 months ago and its inspired me to get back on a skateboard 30 years after I got off the last one. Went to my first skatepark last week rolled down a steep bank twice, third time got bodied. Spent the next 45 mins battling that bank and could not commit, bailed every attempt. Videos like this provide real help to beginners. I'll head back to the park next week, knees bent weight forward.

43 here and I still ride bmx, skateboard, and snowboard..... in my biking career I had 38 broken bones, hit by 3 cars, and wrecked 4 times at speeds over 45mph... in my years of skateboarding I've had many accidents including one that left me with 3 breaks in my left arm and 5 in my right hand, snowboarding hasn't been much different, torn rotator cuffs, back issues, sprains, etc... and just a part of being the human I am... 3 strokes, brain tumor, kidney disease, and RA. Despite all of that I ride as often as I can on anything I can. It turns out the heart and the mind are your strongest muscles. As long as my body holds out I'll be riding when I'm 90 😎

I am getting my sea legs back... If I can comfortably ride the board around the park, up and down on ramps, ollie, and maybe some curb grinding...I have fulfilled my dream. Anything more with the board is a bonus! This video gives me tons of confidence. You both are great teachers! Thank you!

I got my braille Golden Gate Bridge board last year. I skated most of my youth and never learned how to Ollie because they told me at the skate park. I can’t figure out how to Ollie that I can’t skate. I found your videos watch them for a year finally I got enough courage to get a braille board, and trying to learn how to Ollie again to say that after three days of practicing the basics, I finally got the board airborne! I can’t wait to get back out there and skate winter’s finally over skate parks finally not covered in ice and snow and you’re going back to the basics

Hey! I apreaciate that you didn't extravagate the tricks like you can Aaron, like that's how begginer tic-tacs looks like, like most people when show "easy tricks" they do them smooth like butter, without taking to consideration that person learning will struggle. I started skateing when I was 33 (sidenote - I wanted to do it since I was like 10 or 11, and unfortunatelly I kept pushing it for later), now I'm almost 39, pretty comfortable on the board and having fun learning tricks, but for sure there is a difference how we learn things when we get older and I think the most tutorials are aimed towards younger audition. The plan with the schedule is super important, as few shorter sessions work better than one long, as at least in my case muscle memory doesn't want to kick in as smoothly as in cas of my younger friends :P Also the point about spliting the progress on tiny bits work pretty well and give that satisfaction of learning something new, and maybe slow but - progression. And bending knees is IMPORTANT!
PS. That's the best kicturn for begginers I've ever saw :)

I am 48 and visually impaired and started skating last summer. I could only skate for a few months before snow fell over here in Iceland. But I pretty much did exactly what Aaron said in this video, partially under his guidance. Then, I found an in-door skate park and started skating there and joined a skating community for older people. Since then I've been skating in a pool and dropping in. I'm so happy that I started doing this. Age and even physiological limitations can be overcome, as long as you're committed and of course safe and protected.

I’m a bit scared of doing risky tricks(used to fall and that was hurts😅), but I find riding and simple tricks very entertaining. Skateboarding is great for balance and concentration. I’m going down some pretty steep banks, getting kick turns on the slopes (sometimes even getting a full 180 in one go) I can do a tiny Ollie standing still. Made a proper board a few years ago, main barrier I've found in the UK is the weather and how bad the roads are suited to skating. Will definitely be revisiting this in the summer when the weather gets a bit nicer, my aim is to learn to kickflip in the next year!

So although I can ride it OK I never learnt any tricks, so just recently I have been to a couple of skate parks and they are so daunting for an old bloke. So I am taking very small baby steps, but it is so enjoyable and loving it every time.

I'm 47 and hadn't skateboarded since I was 14 when I lost right my leg above the knee from cancer and I started a week ago when I went to the opening of a local skatepark with my 14 year old and a bunch of the guys there were telling me I should just try and do it again and how they have seen some pro skateboarders that have one leg and so I got inspired started practicing with my son and I lead with my left foot and taught myself to push off with my fake leg I've been figuring out kick turns this week and getting my balance better I would like to eventually learn to Ollies, kickflips and pop shove it or shove it. So for now I'm just focusing on cruising and getting comfortable with the board!! But I'm going to tell you what it was such a great feeling to get back on a skateboard I was so happy I almost cried!!! 🛹❤😊 Thank you for all your helpful videos this one was really helpful!!

I'm 32 and have been wanting to skate since I was 6 or 7 and saw Rocket Power for the first time on Nickelodeon. It became my favorite thing but I'm so uncoordinated and have balance issues I was always scared to try, you've inspired me over the passed few years to really give it a shot for real. I know its gonna take a while, maybe even a few years, but my ultimate goal is to be able to drop in and air out. If I can get to that point I will be so incredibly happy. It just looks like so much fun. I'd love it if you guys did a new vert focused series. Maybe a new road to vert or something like that. Seriously, you guys rock, and Aaron...thank you so much. If I hadn't found you and Braille I never would have even tried.

When I was a teen, I got into skateboarding thanks to Tony Hawks pro skater, landed poorly a few times and got too afraid. Didn't go into the basics or anything, just try to rush it all. But recently just got a cruiser and an old 80s skateboard, just to get around, at 37, using to help myself get over the fear of everything. It's been amazing.

I'm 35 and have tried to skateboard for almost 3 years straight in my very early teens. I struggled to just ride the board, and honestly never got it. I've never been able to Ollie. I was able to pop shuvit, and no joke I could flatland Casper varial flip on demand. That is it. I became so discouraged after 3 years with absolutely no progression, I gave it up. It would honestly be a dream come true to actually get a board and really progress. I'm extremely interested in getting a board and giving a serious effort at a second chance. If you want to help me, or think I may be a beneficial project to the channel, please let me know, and or help me. Thank you. I've always been a fan of skateboarding and your channel.

38 years old and decided to get back into. I tried a few years ago but didn’t stick at it - I got frustrated that I couldn’t do what I used to be able to. Recently became inspired after watching the Olympics. 3 days back at it, have gone back to basics this time after watching tutorials online and I’m actually enjoying it a lot more. Been going out twice a day doing short 20-30 min sessions getting back balance and board feel, and I have improved a lot in just this 3 days so far. I’m hoping that taking baby steps is the key and eventually it will become a regular hobby for me again.

Thank you so much Aaron and Nigel, this was definitely a video I needed to see. I used to skate a lot in middle/high school and recently decided I wanted to pick it up again at 37. I'm a lot heavier now than I was back then and I used to skate mongo so trying to get back to skating and trying to re-learn proper technique has been hard. I picked up Andy Anderson's board hoping it would better handle my weight and it has been frustrating trying to even stand on the board without getting in my head and freaked out about it. I need to take your advice, slow down, re-learn the basics, and eventually I can work my way back up to doing some of the stuff I used to 20 years ago. Thanks again Braille!

all the beginner pointers in one video, nice one! And Nigel can't say it enough, lean towards the direction you're moving to. Doing the things in the video is all you need to get comfortable on a board. Tictacking is a very low energy and gratifying way of moving forward, and when you get hold of it you can actually gain a lot of speed with it. After all of these years I still have a lot of problems switching to fakey, I can go from fakey to normal no sweat rolling back from a ramp, but normal to fakey I fail consistently. It's something I really feel I need to get over, my monster walk is terrible and I don't feel the same forces attempting it stationary. Not sure if I'm one of the few with this issue, but if you have some pointers on that in a future instruction video it would be great. I know I need to swing my upper body first but I just instantly feel out of balance when I lift my back wheels to switch, something I don't feel at all doing fakey to normal.

Twenty minutes in, I lost my balance, fell backwards and trying to cushion my fall ended up hyperextending my elbow and of course ending up messing up my summer. You probably have the best beginner video out there and people such as myself really appreciate it. Watching this makes me want to go out there and try again, even with a f'd elbow and an arm in a sling. Thanks dude!!

Now, regarding this video in particular, you should check with the cameraman (I guess it must be Derek) regarding the shaking of the camera. It's pretty noticeable. I know Gabe used to film on the Onewheel and that helped a lot to the smoothness of the filiming. Maybe you guys could consider using something like that.

This is great.. I skated when I was younger but life got in the way. Now, my son is getting back into skating to teach his son. Not only that, but, my 11 yr old daughter is getting interested.. so, here I am, pushing 50 and got the skate bug again.. I brought out my old deck (20 yrs old) and started teaching her the basics. I'm still relatively comfortable riding around, but realized that I'm struggling to pop a decent ollie. I'm sure the razor tail and extreme age only my board doesn't help either haha.. I'm looking at Revive for a new deck since they're kinda local..
Thanks again for doing this and I will continue watching all the instructional videos you've posted to hopefully get back some of my youth

One thing I learnt that hard way with is it really matters what board your riding around on a getting used to. I cruise all the time on a cruising board, so when I bought a board for tricks, I thought I'd be able to get straight into learning because I was already so comfortable with riding around. But then the board felt so different from the size of the board, the trucks and the wheels, that I needed to get used to riding again on a whole new set-up. Didn't take as long, but just something to remember also :)
