    the 5 years I've been playing fighting games, the most improvement I've noticed was when I stopped blaming my character choice and started blaming myself for my own faults. Applies to all aspects of life. The faster you can admit your own faults and take responsibility for your actions, the faster you will improve as a person.

    I had a conversation with some friends about why I don't like team games lately and it got me thinking. When I win in a team game I'm painfully aware about how I didn't do anything to deserve that win. When I win in a fighting game I know for a fact that I did all the work.

    How I learned to cope with getting salty is to get into the habit of jokingly getting mad for like 2 seconds, then actually step back and be like "ggs, i got outplayed, we'll get 'em next time"
    I'll barely lose a match and I'll just go NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO for like 2 seconds and then turn around and congratulate the person who beat me
    This worked really well when i got smoked by an HC player and i immediately went into the "jokingly mald, then move on" habit. It stopped me from just jumping into seriously malding and instead give them props, move on, and learn for next time. Counteracting any frustration I'm feeling by being kind and congratulating my opponent because i know that they're happy they won a match and they don't deserve me getting upset taking that away from them
    Learning to take Ls is so important, and I'm glad I feel like I can say I've learned how to, even if I'm not great at fighting games ^^;

  • @Lanzetsu

    I NEVER reached Celestial, always failed the challenges, but I am fine with it and I am glad about it because I stop playing and come back and I don't grind enough since I want to chill more playing instead of going hardcore so I bounce between 8th and 10th floor constantly, but I never in my life blamed other thing than myself for not being good enough at something, and mainly because I play also a lot of characters in the same fighting game, which obviously sometimes makes thing easier or harder depending on which one I am playing, but at the end my skill should carry me, not the character, and I simply must keep growing and having fun with the game.
    I feel this is why I love StarCraft II as well as Fighting Games this much, it is a 1v1 game, you can only blame yourself, no teammates or other bs, it is you vs another person and that's all

What's crazy is that after about 2 weeks at this point I'm almost gold (silver 1 atm) and they are all super impressed because they are all gold with close to 1k hours for them, and they wonder how I do it. Honestly all I can tell them is that every loss I just tell myself how I messed up and take a mental note of it like "maybe dropping like that wasn't smart and I should give up that spot instead" or "I missed a lot of shots I need to go to the training room and practice with that gun" which is something I learned from fighting games.

    I think the only time I heard an excuse that made sense for rank not matching skill was in OW. They added a role queue, had rank decay and DPS queue was 10+ minutes at peak times. By the time you got to the last two ranks finding a match as DPS would take 20 mins+ while games lasted around 15 to 25mins. You'd end up spending more time looking for matches than playing.
    Completely understood why people wouldn't have the time to play enough matches to get their rank to match their skill.

    The league comparisons are useful because your mental is so important in both league and fighting games. Something that helped me in league (and I'm using in fighting games) is from a video from a league youtuber I like. He made a mistake and immediately said "if we lose now it's 100% my fault". While initially that felt a little harsh, I think holding yourself to those high standards can be really helpful. Obviously you shouldn't be beating yourself up over losses or mistakes, but you should have the confidence to be able to say that some mistake turned a winning game into a losing one.

    I feel like I'm better than what I'm losing to but I'm not and my opponents getting cocky because of that is on no one but me. You might want to try learning about self-worth theory. You should try to decouple your performance from your view of self-worth which will make it easier to detach and notice what you are doing wrong. Generally mid game I have these moments where I mentally blank out and do something random or on instinct and that is I think a huge red flag about what you need to work on. Top players almost never do what "feels" good, they have a thought behind every action. Playing with intent and thought will cost you games early on but those are just growing pains.

    I think an important thing to realize is yes, every character can win and get to the highest ranks, but some undeniably have a harder time achieving that. You really have to weigh how good you are against how bad your character is, and question if your love for the character is worth potentially not seeing your peak, whatever that may be. in SFV for instance, a decent player will very likely be able to climb higher playing Luke than they would playing a super low-tier character.

    The worst part is people like this make it really harder for others to realize that Ky does in fact need some good buffs. They just give fuel to the garbo "all Ky mains are downplayers" meme and when Arcsys finally buff Ky everybody's going to be blindsided and scream bloody murder, potentially causing another kneejerk reaction nerf like they did in the beta.

    When I played Street Fighter 4 online I could separate players into three groups. I considered myself to be a 2/3 out of these groups. The weakest players would love playing Ryus master online because you did not have to unlock him. The online game would just give you this character you had to earn. I could not earn that character until I had built up over time toward the end of the time I was playing online. The next group like myself gravitated toward the Ryu characters like Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Dan. Then, you had the top players. The majority of the players who would destroy me match after match were playing Chunli and Rufus. Every one of the best players had paid to unlock the alternate skin for the character. I knew I was going to get destroyed when I saw alternate Chunli or Rufus. I had around a 50% win ratio for my matches.

    My perfect option select is that I don't have time to practice. Never fails to shift the blame.
    For real though, there's no harm in making scrubby excuses to protect your ego, as long as you stay self-aware that is what it is, and don't repeat them so often you start to believe it.

    But in the other hand, as a young 1 week Celestial dweller, I can prove it is doable to be Celestial! I hope the Ky main you're talking about get to open his eyes and manage to get through this struggle while staying true to his main!

    But this is actually something I really like about fighting games. I feel when I play League of Legends, for example, that there were so many variables that were outside of my control when I lose. Because of this, losses feel way more frustrating, and even wins can feel like you didn't deserve them at times. When you lose at a fighting game, if you watch it back and analyze it, you'll realize your opponent was just better- like they knew what they were doing. And then you can watch someone who plays your character better than you do and you'll realize that you could've played in a more ideal way. It's a true learning process.

I won wahoo!

  • @ShjadeNexayre
    @ShjadeNexayre ปีที่แล้ว

    I honestly don't understand the mindset that leads to this. I can't relate. Maybe (probably?) because I've never taken a fighting game that seriously-or any game, really-I've just never run into that wall of "I would've won if X that wasn't my fault". At worst I'll point out things that were buggy/unlucky/not in my favor (ex: Left 4 Dead 1v1 vs matches, when you get bumped off a fatal fall and are hanging and all three of your AI teammates just stand on top of you instead of pulling you up, hilarious way to lose), but even then it's not in the context of "I'm better than you/I should've won that." It's just like, ah, shit, this happened, and laugh it off and move on.
    Fighting games in particular? If I'm playing some fighter and get absolutely stomped and I think it's a character issue? I'm not complaining about it; I'm *immediately* trying out my opponent's character to see how hard it is to crush somebody else the way they just rolled me. Chances are it's not going to be as easy as it felt on the receiving end, and maybe I'll learn something about it in the process. Cool! And move right along.
    Why be mad? I don't get it.
