    I´ve followed this build from the first episode, just had to go back and look at it again to get a reminder of how far you have come with the build!
    Is it really 3 years already?
    I miss Mrs Jeff in the earlier episodes, I hope she enjoys being a part of the series as much as we do!

    If you grind the branding off the top of the cam cover, a Mazda MX-5 motor would look right at home in that engine bay. I think the Mazda engineers were trying to make it look like an Alfa motor. An MX-5 1.6 would sing in that car. Good luck with the build.

    Got to be an F20C in a car like that, 9000rpm! The relative lack of torque low down not a problem in such a light car either. Another great choice of rebuild too, this and a 240Z, a proper connoisseur!

    Hello Jeff, it's really a pleasure to follow a guy like you. You made me want to start a new project with an alfa 105. Indeed, I bought a 105 coupe and I will try to mount it with an Alfa V6 and a bmw E46 box. It is a real pleasure to follow you and I am always impatiently waiting for a new video to be posted. The way in which your whole team shoots is truly exceptional. Mrs. Jeff is not for nothing. The way you work really inspires and inspires you to get started.
    To explain, I bought the car and now I have to build a workshop, you see, I do everything upside down. LOL. see you soon, good luck and lots of success.

    My suggestion for the engine would be a 2 liter [maybe bored to a little more like 2.3] twin spark off of an Alfa 75 [Milano in some markets]. With the proper work and injection management they can get to 230/240hp and they bolt straight in. See what Alfaholics does with them.
    Just please, PLEASE, use an Alfa engine, I've seen some aussies putting in Nissan SR20DET's and as much as I like those engines, they just don't belong in the car.
    Btw that 2 liter you got is VERY sought after!

    • @larndavies6954
      @larndavies6954 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was going to suggest sr20det or mx5 engine. Fuel injection and or turbo would make for a lot of fun

    • @basstard13

      @@larndavies6954 as much as I LOVE to death Miatas and the SR20DET, in my humble opinion the 105's are sacred and can't be molested. They need to be preserved.
      Besides this, a turbo engine would probably ask too much from the flimsy chassis and the Miata 1.8 stock engine would be no improvement. The 2 liter for this is rated at 131hp and it's an 8 valve so it's a little torquier than a Miata, more fun on the street.
      I stand by my choice of a twin spark 2 liter.
      A V6 Busso from another Alfa would be cool, it's been done before but imho it would make the car too much nose heavy.

    • @larndavies6954
      @larndavies6954 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      basstard13 I 💯 % agree, it's a pedigree car and deserves originality but as long as he keeps the original parts there is no harm in having some fun with it as long as it can be returned back to factory specs if wanted.

    I've had a 1969 Alfa Romeo Berlina, which originally had the 1750 motor, but when I got it, someone had updated it with the 2L motor. Very torquey motor. No reliability issues! The motor needs to be rebuilt regularly if used daily. But for a project car, where 20K miles is the limit of anticipated use, one rebuild should last for its life. Plus the air intake on these motors sounds extremely nice. When you put the motor from another car, with computers and the like, you start the reliability issues. Just a thought.

    That's not very rusty at all. Great find! Sills are standard on these and you've waited long enough to start this so there are now repair panels for underneath the rear side windows available. The b pillar is a bit finicky but nothing impossible to fix.
    And you are a brave man, lifting a 40 year old Alfa by the jacking points! :-)
    Engine's gotta have to be a V6 Busso or a TS from a 75. I won't stand for anything else....
    Good luck!

  • @msneds1603

    I think for the best return on your investment, I'd stick with the original motor, we all know the potential in that lovely 2L, and following recent pricing on 105's, factory original examples bring top money over custom. That's the sensible thing to do. Now, other part of brain- "3.0 Busso or a super hot twin spark!!!!!!!" I've read that getting the weight distribution correct is a bit difficult with the V6, unless you transplant the transaxle from the V6 rear into this 105, and that would be KILLER! Otherwise, maybe a screaming twin spark would check all the "fun" boxes and be less of a hack job. Either way, looks like a great project. My 67 Sprint GT is going 100% original, but don't think I haven't dreamed of a bumperless, lightened Alfa hot rod many a times! The car looks good enough to be factory restored, and in the end that's where the best return money lies. This is going to be fun to watch, have a blast with your Alfa, it's going to make your other cars very jealous!

    At first, I would say "put a M50/M52 (BMW) engine in it!" but as the engine is mostly good, yeah, just refresh it is the best option. And overall, it's a clean car!
    Edit: as I respond to Byrons Shop, I think of a tweak if it's not already done by the factory, the misfiring system, mostly use for turbo, it still have a benefit with NA engine. You can grab some easy (low) HP with it. Just change the rod in the distributor to spark the opposite sparkplug simultinuously.

    I discovered your channel looking for painting/body tips initially on the 911 and subscribed based on the DIY ethos we both share. As I'm an Alfa head (4 at this moment) I look forward to following this build. I have 1 minty GTV (bought that way) and one field find (texas/Mexico impound lot) GTV in about the same shape as your Green GTV. I've admired your fab skills so I look forward to seeing progress. All the best

    I've been waiting a long time for this one to show up. Finally! I hope you paint it any original Alfa color except red. Resale red is over used. I'd prefer that you use an Alfa engine, hopefully you're not going off brand. I fully support the jumping between cars to keep things going...I do it with 5....wait a minute, 6 Alfa. LOL
    Looks like you've found your way to the AlfaBB. Fantastic resource with an international following.

    Hey Jeff, great to see the little Alfa coupe finally,I have a 73 GTV 2000 here in Darwin ..had it a bit over a year and have been looking forward to seeing yours.Please forgive me but I am a little disappointed yours is in much less rusty condition than mine ,,just that I am sure I would have learned much from your approach to similar problems .I have 1970 Valiant 318 Regal Safari Wagon I will be focusing on first as it isn,t in too bad a nick and will be much quicker to get back on the road, (famous last words}.....also a couple of bikes, the Val is to be slightly mild custom.great to see the job you have done on the datto and Porsche love em ...(had family problems so away from youtube for a while). Looking forward to seeing how the Alfa progresses ..actually not going the restoration route myself more resto mod ,was thinking about other motivation (but still sort the 2 litre to stay close to the car ).I want to replace as many panels as possible with aluminium ..fuel cell boot floor,I have no boot floor at the moment or spare wheel well ,parcel tray boot skin and bonnet skin to name a few.Don't feel you have to answer all these points ..just wanted to let you know there is another in a similar situation ,,sincerely Waen.

    Awesome, the base car looks great, I'm suprised the spare wheel well is still there! One of the hardest parts to find (in Europe at least) are good inner door frames. I would keep the original twin cam, its a great engine and well balanced for the car. Looking forward to new videos :)

    Remember to take pictures of all the engine and electrical wiring so you don't have a problem of what goes where when it's time to put it back together :)
