    Thanks for the shout out buddy, appreciate it! Your video was excellent, showing all the important steps, your mod turned out just as good as mine did and I’m sure you won’t be having anymore issues with fuel 🤞. Keep running that “Power service” anti gel, it’s good stuff, I use the same in my BX and never had an issue, which is surprising considering how nasty my fuel bowl looked in my last video which attests to how damn well this filter mod works. Stay safe out there and god bless 👍🏻

    Don't be shy with the amount of additive you use, I'll often add 3-4x what is 'Recommended' (anti-gel as well as a diesel cleaner)

    • @wildbill23c

      You need to be proactive and treat the fuel now, before there are problems, not after. This is why these issues happen is people don't prevent them, they wait till there's a problem then suddenly the equipment is junk, their dealer sucks, etc.
      The fuel treatment isn't too expensive and oftentimes one bottle will treat 100 or more gallons...and for many of us that bottle of treatment will last several years.
      I bought the fuel treatment and added it to the first can of diesel fuel I bought. So each time I empty my fuel can, I grab the treatment bottle and dump some into the can so when I go fill it up the fuel treatment is already in there.

    As you said, there is nothing quite like the sound of a happily rattling diesel tractor (especially after it wouldn't start!) I have all the pieces except the metal stock for the mount. But as soon as it is warmer, I'm doing the same thing! Excellent video!

    This and Biff’s video really helped me with my project. Maybe I’m a bit of a heathen, but I ended up using a 1025r filter because it has a bit more room below the filter for any water that may intrude and that red floating ring I’ve seen in various filters. Nice visual indicator that I wanted to include with my version of this incredibly necessary upgrade. I was able to use a 1-1/2” piece of flat bar with no bending required since the bolt hole on the 1025r filter is horizontal. Just needed a few washers as spacers to leave room to unscrew the bowl. I’m so glad I found these how-to’s since I was a bit underwhelmed when I realized there was no water separator on my BX when I got it earlier this year. Keep up the good work, I enjoy watching your channel quite often.

    That was the first mod I did on my BX23S. It is amazing how much water actually gets in there due to condensation. My tractor sleeps in a warm metal shop so it is always ready to start. Sometimes I do leave it outside if I have a big job to do in the shop and this is where I get the water. From staying in the cold.
    I didn't use that filter just because of the tip you talked about. This is the one I used: R12T Fuel Filter Water Separator 120AT from Amazon.

    • @andyrose8642
      @andyrose8642 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The block heater should heat up the engine and engine cavity, this should also warm the diesel fuel enough to keep it from gelling. You just need to keep the fuel above 40 deg. F. There are also fuel line heaters that could the task as well.

    • @guyprattii3115

    Excellent video as are all of yours. I do believe it is a shame however, that for what one spends on any decent tractor, that the manufacturers do not mandate their engineers use common sense when planning/constructing these machines, unless it's the bean counters that hinder those engineers who do have the aforementioned common sense and would implement easy to use functioning for the average owner. Ah, but that would cut back on dealer service repair and they certainly do not want that. Again, great video work. Thanks and best of luck with your machine.

    Should there be a filter before the pump ? Great fix. Lot easier to work at.

    • @danyf3116
      @danyf3116 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The tractor has 2 filters. One under and one just before the pump. This mod is to prevent you from having to go under and curse like an idiot at the engineers who thought it would be a great place to put a lonely filter!!! LOL
      The one by the pump gets warmed up by the engine. The one under is cooled down by the HST fan. Terrible design.

    • @TheMindfulHomestead
      @TheMindfulHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because what homeowner has 4 pairs of line clamps kicking around? Much more so, 4 pairs that will fit in the confined space without much extra line that Kubota affords the person changing the filters?

  • @bufkinmanor
    @bufkinmanor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the new filter he installed, technically no the filter by the engine is no longer needed. Many leave that filter as a 2nd filter to catch what the other one might miss, but really no you could remove the front filter if you want.

    • @guyprattii3115
      @guyprattii3115 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That would be a huge mistake. The filter before the injector pump is there to catch debris from the lift pump. Kubota put it there for a reason. Your injector pump will not tolerate garbage or water and is very expensive to replace.

    I do wonder what the dealer/Kubota would say when you bring it in for service with that non-oem filter installed? Although its from another Kubota tractor, its not what came on the BX, so I'm curious if they'd whine and moan about it? I would think that since its a modification to make the tractor better it would be fine, but I'd only worry about potential warranty problems?
    Has anyone done this that has their tractor serviced at the dealer and have they said anything about it?

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danyf3116 I have no idea, I bought a new tractor and its too new to need any services done, and after the experience I had with my dealership/salesman it certainly won't be going to the dealer for any work...and its a 35 mile one way trip to any place that would work on it, and no way to get it there so depending on the issue I'd probably have to call someone out if it wasn't something I was equipped to take care of myself. I can do the normal service work, but break downs would be something else that I'd have to know what the issue was as to if it were something I'd be able to tackle on my own.
      I have oil/filters on hand for its initial service, but I'm still 20 hours away so probably another year before that needs done LOL.

    Everything is fine, its all fine, it'll be ok...next day....sky is falling, what was I thinking LOL. My biography completed in 1 line HAHA!!!
    I'm thinking of doing that filter mod as well....not really due to fuel issues, but I simply hate where that filter under the tractor is located, and for the ridiculous price that Kubota charges for these tractors...why Kubota, why couldn't you spend the extra $5 and put a real fuel filter/water separator on these machines and in a location that doesn't require you to crawl around in the dirt to get to it.

  • @ProductiveRecreation

    Seems poor design on filter placement by Kubota. That’s a shame. Filter on my Ford is right alongside the engine (fuel tank is under the hood like a standard L Kubota). I don’t even try to start that old 2 cylinder diesel below 20 degrees… Quite difficult to turn over.
