No one ever asks JC (or mentions) the "ode to no one" performance at the last METRO show from 2000. Its hands down the best SP performance ever recorded / caught on film. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. Jimmy's performance and Billy's performance in that is second to none, and also illustrates their chemistry. From the wink at the beginning to Billy screaming his head off at the end. When Billy says "we gotta little treat for ya" at the start, its 100% an understatement.
Billy recently mentioned that it’s one of Jimmy’s favorite songs to play, and that performance is absolute proof. Jimmy played it with such a fiery passion and intense ferocity. He knew it was possibly the last time he would ever play it again, so he went all in.
The Pumpkins were notorious for playing everything at mach speeds at live shows. One thing about that is no matter how fast they played, Jimmy never cut corners. He still played every note you heard on the studio and then some! Just listen to any performance of Everlasting Gaze from 2000. They would play it so fast that it would significantly decrease the run time, but Jimmy never missed a beat and added tons of new fills. And if I remember correctly, Jimmy said that he really dislikes playing that fast!
Greatest live performance of any band, ever. It's the epitome of an epic performance. Nothing will ever come close to how incredible that is. 🎸🔥🤯🤘

Chamberlin is amazing. Great interview. I did have the thought when he said the drumming on siamese dream is pure expression almost jazz fusion, but on new SP stuff they are instead modeling their approach on whats currently popular... seems like a false assumption there. If working against the grain is what made SP stars, why go with the flow now?
Man this guy has been thru it and back. Amazing he was so messed up at one point but still got on stage and was amazing. Love his style. His swing and his power and his jazz fusion with rock. Im a drummer and to be honest I just love to watch him play.
Storytelling is such a good analogy, though I think it points to something more fundamental than song or story. Like people can study the science of this stuff and put the slow part here and the climax there, sequence and formulas, but there's a certain kind of continuity over time where things have soul and life and it's gotta be more than just intellect. Like there's this precognitive level of sensitivity and instinct that seems rare. It's kind of cliche to talk about things that can't be put into words, but maybe something like that. I mean it can't just be science all the way down or else there'd be nothing worth working with in the first place.
