early game is always so precious - I wish to relive some of that "early-game" feeling. All those moments of learning with friends and exploring the world for the first time...
@@McUsernameFace I wish to relive early game feeling of shadow of the erdtree seeing all of the landmarks, and also forget the spiraling descent into despair as I realise that almost all of the landmarks are a huge letdown.
The instant you said “what if it was the place you didn’t want to return to” I uttered *the name*. Only to see it come back again. That moment from dead space 2 was truly haunting.
The incredible feeling of immersing oneself in a world for the first time, along with the annoying yet beautiful nostalgia that follows later, is truly special. That first experience in a new game (if it’s genuinely good) can be exhilarating. The blend of excitement and reflection, knowing the journey has come to an end, creates a powerful emotional resonance. When a game truly captivates us, the initial thrill of exploration is often paired with a sense of longing once it’s over. This duality of excitement during the "adventure" and nostalgia afterward, can lead to a deeper appreciation of the game's artistry, storytelling, and mechanics. I often find myself reminiscing about my favorite moments, characters, and landscapes, wishing i could experience them anew. Just as a blank slate, unknowing of the game. And then my heart aches, knowing i won't ever feel them the same again... Love the video, Riloe. (Nice!)
When I got up to that tower some bandits started shooting me cause it was a side to get this rifle from the firefight, I didnt had any time to appreciate the horizon
same happened to me. also it was dark n raining. my atmospheric world view happened at the top of slag heap. i love how S2 makes this moment differently for each player. so guys may have gotten it here as this video shows, or somewhere else due to the games mechanics. but yes this moment is awesome 😎👍
Two of my favorite early game moments: coming down from the Grizzlies at the start of Red Dead Redemption II and seeing the entirety of the world sprawling out in front of me as the snow fades away. And Hi-fi Rush, the first time Chai gets smacked in the chest my a robot, jumpstarting the mp3 player in his chest and the game’s ever-present music finally forcing itself to the forefront as the scrap metal around him is pulled into the shape of a guitar
I'll never forget being stranded on a car surrounded by mutants with no ammo or meds only to be saved by a roaming group of bandits that distracted the mutants long enough to give me a chance to high tail it out of there. It was only a couple hours in and nearly identical to an experience I had in SoC. That's when I knew we were so back.
nice! your concept of temporal backtracking immediately reminded me of the relationship between the kanto and johto pokemon games. i didn't grow up with pokemon, in fact i'm a fairly recent fan, only got into it during the pandemic, but when i finished the league in each of these games and spawned back in my starting town, it gave me a slight sense of nostalgia, even more so when i went to kanto in heart gold for the first time and explored all of it, looking at how things changed in these 2 in-universe years. i bet it was the same feeling that people felt when they were kids when they beat the league in rby and gsc. it's a reminder of how much you've come your videos always give me a new outlook on the games i've played in the past, always makes me want to revisit them, even if for just a few seconds. keep doing what you're doing
I'm so glad you brought up DayZ. I STILL get that sort of "at home" feeling when I'm either looking out over Cherno, or stashing stuff at my favorite hideout up north.
Nice! You captured the feeling of returning to a place you know well but has changed perfectly. Nostalgia tinged with ennui (french word, there's no real equivelent in english).
The whole sequence of going through the five pebbles superstructure, meeting the puppet at the core, and then the endless expanse above the clouds is truly something
The early game also sets you up for mastery. If the Lesser Zone hadn’t killed me so many times, I wouldn’t feel like such a badass by the time I got to Garbage. Duality.
For me the Train scene and entering Black Mesa in Half-Life is what you are talking about, these first few minutes, checking the world... it was awesome.
Im glad someone else is having a lot of fun exploring and taking in the scenery. There is an NPC in garbage that comments on you walking a fallen crane and i didnt know what he meant until i turned around and the CNPP was right in front of me. Another really good example of early game is Elden Ring, you get hit with the same feeling twice.
2 of my favorite games I've played so far were Elden Ring and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Those games were perfect examples of this beautiful early game period. Both games had a strange sense of both fear and wonder. Almost post-apocalyptic in certain areas. That I need to learn both the mechanics and the once thriving world. I want to try Stalker 2 but sadly, I am both too busy to play right now and I haven't finished Tears of the Kingdom. Great Video Riloe. This is Jacob Geller and Razbuten level of quality right here
What a NICE video :) Thanks Riloe for making such well content. It realy is a great feeling to sooth in the first time you get to experience the bigger picture of whats to come in a new game that you play… memories that will stay for ever…
Nice! I sometimes find that this juncture in the early game is what I crave in games, where world building is in front of the story, all too often I drop games in the mid game as the game tries to hook you on story beats. I just find world building more interesting in general over what story the writers have in mind for the player character.
I find that I ALWAYS like the early game most. Sometimes to the point of restarting the game before really progressing in it. The feeling of unknown and the feeling of learning for the first time is something special. Always brings me back to Mulgore as my first WoW Tauren entered the world in BTC. Pure nostalgia, one I wish to have more of. That's why I always feel people who either rush games or ask for advice before even starting do themselves damage. Enjoy how you want... but if you ask me, I'd advise to not strip yourself off these experiences.
I am only now after finishing the game learning that the Bubla as well as other unique anomalies had artifacts. Throughout my 60-hour playthrough I would find one admire it for a minute or two and then more on using them as a marker for the map.
In Tarkov, the moment is when you first get head-eyes'ed and get to the loading screen. What awaits you for the rest of the game is death, loading screens, the stash menu and frustration.
I have seen the world, I've had one ending, my imagination has filling in many blanks, my possibilities remain endless and I atarted again, feeling right at home in Zalissya
The game I'm working on won't have a continuous open world. But I think you can have the same effect when using a world map to select travel destinations. Making that map in a way that looks interesting and evocative the first time players see it is something I had not thought of before, but now I really want to make it a priority.
The Halo background music just fills me with despair that they haven't build a game worthy of this level of analysis in awhile. (Infinite has multiple "Early Game" moments imo)
@@nillapuddin5479 I actually have several of these moments in Halo. First looking out at Requiem in Halo 4 was a great moment, as well as Zeta in Infinite. Oh, if Infinite had been a more Stalker-like open world… 🤌

Nice... work! :-) Huge fan of the Stalker franchise here. For me it's one of those titles that illustrated how you never judge a book by its cover. I put off trying Stalker for YEARS because I was viscerally turned off by the game's box art. Not sure what finally prompted me to try the original SoC years ago, but was happy I finally did, dated graphics and all. By that time I was able to just roll into the sequels and liked them as well. But throughout those days my gaming time was primarily spent raiding, etc., with friends in Destiny, which has been steadily declining in quality for years now. I finally quit that dumpster fire in June and went back to Stalker Anomaly GAMMA, which I find to be an almost endless source of entertainment. It's so mature as a game, that it actually made me a little disappointed in some aspects of Stalker 2 - mostly QoL stuff. And yes, even though there are experiences you only have once - some of which were things I experienced in early D1 that kept me playing Destiny LONG after it had turned from entertainment to obligation/chore, hoping it would improve - I still find the early game enjoyable. Not yet clear why, but it may be due to some of the things you mentioned here.
I remember playing fallout 76 beta when it first launched and the wonder and awe I had exploring the world and I know fallout 76 is the odd one out in the franchise but it’s world is one the the best created by Bethesda
