to me i thought that was the obvious thing about a capsule, you include things you want to wear more often, and you wear white ts all the time, so why even include it, it's almost like a supplement to your capsule, like capsule with a supporting role of the white t.
Definitely not for your location in the cold seasons! It's an undergarment, same for the unitard from Aritzia imho. Anything you are wearing under sweaters or blouses or dresses is a base layer in winter for northern climates! For a summer capsule I would count it though.
Yeah if it is functioning solely as underwear it shouldn't count. The only caveat I would say is if you categorize tshirts as underwear and say they don't count you couldn't then style the tshirt as a shirt with a blazer. I would call that cheating.
I'm really getting into the idea of shopping out of my closet. I'm not buying anything unnecessary until may, just trying to get in the habit of not buying stuff...period. It's really fun. Using what we have is such valuable skill! I do this with food too--items in the fridge and the pantry that i can use to make certain leftovers last longer or that i can put together with some stuff from the freezer is a great tool too. All very budget friendly! Really enjoying your channel. Thanks for all the work you obviously put into this!!! Much appreciated.🥰
It took me many years to learn how to utilize my wardrobe properly. We all have clothes that we wear once or occasionally just so that we can justify keeping them. Those clothing items are keeping us from wearing what we really love more often. I've purged and gotten rid of all of those clothes and shoes. My closet now has only items I truly love and enjoy wearing. Keep inspiring us!
I think when you filmed this was when we also had a cold snap here in Alberta. January 14th we were -43 and -51 with the windchill! Brr I don’t count my winter gear; coats, boots, hats, scarfs etc either. Actually in any season. As Canadians I feel we have such strong seasons. We need fall boots and winter boots and summer shoes etc. Where I watch a content creators in Florida and her “winter clothes” makes me giggle! 🤭
Our winters in Dubai is very mild, it’s our best season to dress up and get out. 8 months of the year though is brutal heat, we still have to wear thickish fabrics cuz of crazy air conditioning everywhere. Essentially, we don’t have seasonal clothing here. So a capsule wardrobe is very doable with not many changes required.
I count my white T-shirts as 1 item so if I spill something I can swap in a fresh one. I rely on a white T as one of my tops in every seasonal capsule. But if it’s used underneath a wool sweater more as underwear then it’s not counted at all. I always have a mini core. Usually 1 cardigan/jacket, 2 bottoms and 3 key tops. 1 pair shoes, 1 purse, a scarf and a nice pair of earrings. Usually based on black, white, silver and grey. Colour is in my larger seasonal capsule but my core is always my starter. It’s my emergency weekend to 4-5 day packing list and my no brainer pick for rough days when thinking is hard. I learned it from Janice Rigsby the founder of The Vivienne Files and she calls it her Stress Dressing capsule.
I’m not here for every thing you put out, but I really enjoy watching you. You always give me something to think about. Thank you. Keep up the good work. I’m just about totally opposite of you. I’m old, short, retired, don’t go out much…🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️. But for several years now I’ve been simplifying my home and life. I only watch a few people semi regularly, and you’re one of them. ✌🏻✌🏻
I just started capsule living and it has literally changed my life. I purposefully kept my accessories out of my capsule process because I knew I could keep the outfits basic and accessorize! As a result I started subconsciously Capsule accessorizing!!! It’s be amazing but I need to digitize!
What I’ve been doing is choosing unique outfits for each day of the week ahead, and rolling them neatly (like im packing a suitcase) into separate oversized ziplock bags. It helps me get more use of my wardrobe between laundry cycles
Interesting idea. It can be tough to get everything to mix and match in a capsule. My most interesting pieces are the hardest to rotate. I like your idea of optimizing a week's worth of outfits and just rotating.
Your wardrobe = your rules. I think of it how you’ve explained in the past that you don’t get caught up on the number of items you own. This was great to watch, I had been thinking about the idea of choosing x number of items for a month or two, but this might be a better way to introduce the concept.
You’re so right! Ya I learned I’d rather wear an item a day that I don’t wear often or something than this challenge! It’s for a different goal than what I’m going for. Live and learn!
Pardon me, if I misunderstood but I highly recommend removing all jewelry each evening. You will find your pieces will last longer and you will notice needed repairs earlier ( thereby not losing) when you remove your pieces each evening. In fact, use this undressing time as opportunity to give these pieces a bit of love with a jeweler’s cloth and quick glance at your seasonal mantras.
Some of us just dont like taking them off and putting them back on in the morning and for showers. I buy materials that can take the wear and tear of showering and sleeping in them (I’m partial to stainless steel or gold filled) and only take them off to clean them occasionally. I even have a Nixon surf watch in gold stainless steel so I dont take my watch off either. Having all jewelry you can live in 100% of the time has been goals for me for a while and I love it!
If the t-shirt is only going to be worn underneath either items for insulation or to put a layer between something like a jumper and your skin, then I’d say it’s underwear. If you are going to wear it in a context where it is visibly part of the outfit (so like as a top with nothing over it other than maybe a jacket) then it counts towards your 10 IMO
Wow 🤩 I’d LOVE to catalog my wardrobe. I’m going to check out that app. But… I’m not a minimalist anymore so that may be quite an undertaking😂 I think a white t could be considered an undergarment, especially if you usually always wear it as an undershirt. 😊 Thank you for sharing your process❤I do something like this periodically to ensure I’m wearing all my stuff and rotating through different outfits.
I created 4 seasonal capsules (I live in PA, where we have 4 distinct seasons), but within each season, I’m taking one month per season to create 3 10x10 capsules. This is my first year working with capsules outside of traveling and I’m loving it! My capsule is similar to yours in that I don’t include undergarments, jewelry, athleasure or coats. However, I also don’t include shoes. Just my daily clothing for the week. I consider my three style words to be classic, comfortable and creative.
Loved this video, thanks for the suggestion of the app. I just downloaded and I am doing the test to find my personal style. Can't wait to see your outfits. White t-shirt should not count. I am doing a no buy year and also want to declutter my closet. So this came at the perfect moment. Thank you
Omg I really want to do this too! I bought some clothes over the Christmas break and haven't been able to incorporate them because I bought them for specific occasions. So, this is a way to incorporate them without being too intimidating. Hope you can update us on how it's going for you!! Thnx for a great video!
That navy top and mint blazer looks so yummy together! 👌✅. I don’t have a rolling rack like you and there’s no room to put it in my bedroom, so I think I can do this 10x10 by placing my chosen clothing on one side of my closet 🧡. Like you, I love making track pants as part of work wear!
I did a no buy January and was shocked at A) how much we could divert to savings last month 🙈 and B) the carousel of items sitting in my Amazon cart. I deleted so many things I otherwise would've bought on impulse! The wishlist is a great idea!
I consider the t-shirt a wild card. When I pull out clothes for the week, I might not choose the t-shirt but can decide on a given day to use ot as a layering piece. Other times (because I don't wear white t-shirts that often), the t-shirt might be one of the pieces I choose to wear that week.
I think if you live in colder climates or layer a lot, the rules should be slightly different. I live in a ski resort so while we're wearing close to nothing in summer, winters are basically a 3 layer affair - on top of your normal clothes 😆10 by 7 sounds totally doable to me, not counting those survival pieces. I'm excited to see how you'll end up tweaking the system because this is the first "capsule" solution in actually interested in.
I ordered a little clothes rack and I'm really excited to try this!!! Undergarment not sure that its the right word i'm from Quebec french speaking...well, undergarment like tees and camis shouldnt count. Personally, Im gonna choose 3-4 shoes and they won't count either :P.
I've done 10 X 10, but almost always allow for 11 or 12. I don't think the approach adequately considers layers. Three pairs each of pants, shoes and layers takes nine of 10 slots. But it can feel like you're wearing the same thing with each layer coming up every three days (although you can stretch with a no layer day). I continue to play with this and suggest you add the T-shirt without worrying.
I think, you could at least use multiple white tees (counting as one) during the 10 days...so that you don't have to clean it all the time! 😂 Thank you for this new inspiration! I will try this as well! So fun!🎉
I won't be doing the 10x10, but, I like the idea, I'm just too excited shopping my own closet and trying new outfits at the moment, and its tottaly thanks to Indyx and thanks to you for showing me the app! I'm having so much fun with it, Its helping me a ton to cut down on morning anxiety when it comes to putting an outfit together, and today I'm proudly wearing an outfit that I never tought to put together before, which includes a blouse that I absolutely love but usually never reach for. Btw I tottaly agree with you about blazers 🙏. I also love a whole suit, it's the polished version of PJ's for me and just as comfortable tbh. I hope you have fun and learn a lot with this 10x10 challange 😘
Hello Christina. Thank you for your podcasts, I find them so helpful. I have heard you talk about your love of vintage Levi jeans and was wondering if you could help me find a pair. I don’t know where to begin my search. Etsy? eBay? My husband and I are going to Paris in the Fall and I would really like to have a great pair to wear.
Lol...I think we make the rules for the ten. The white t can be underwear or leisure. I choose to not include shoes in mine, although I do limit them to 2 or 3 pairs.
I bought a white long sleeve t shirt just to wear under itchy sweaters. So I wouldn’t count it as part of my ten. I couldn’t do the ten by ten. For one thing I usually wear sweatpants all winter long. And it’s warming up here this week. And of course, that means rain. But it also means I can turn my heat off. Which doesn’t happen in the winter. Even in the south. I don’t go anywhere. So I can wear the same thing twice in a week. So I guess I would only get five things.
How do you do a something like this if you train/ run etc 7+ times a week ? I guess gym clothing/ shoes are not included ? Do people that truly have a capsule wardrobe include gym attire?
I think the white-tee should be considered an undergarment because you are using it for warmth and protection of your wool/cashmere knits. I have statement pieces that I haven't worn and like a lot, but I tend to keep them? Why? I suppose that one day I will wear them.
I learned this the hard way!! Ive got pieces that i truly love.. basics tops, cotton and linen pants, im not really comfortable wearing jeans since i gain weight.. nevertheless im happy with the pieces i own..
I think white t shirt does not count I liked your advice what do you think about wearing a midi bodycon dress if I am a petite woman? I found your canal by accideny and I liked your tips and challenges. I like getting clothes secondhand or promoting my local brands and I try not to buy too many clothes and I would like to put my clothes from to the closet to good use regards
See this is why I hate 10x10s but listen I think if you include a category of items that are the things that make outfits work (I haven’t thought of a cool label LOL) but it’s basically a small category of things that bridge the gap or make outfits work - like a white tshirt - you can then leverage the 10x10 for new items and things you’re trying to get more wear out of etc!
@Christinamychas I'm so excited to see what you come up with! Meanwhile, I'm looking at my closet to see what jeans I'll wear with my pointy toe western boots. I love those boots you had on with the unique jeans, and your right sneakers don't go with everything, and flats aren't as comfortable as a structured boot with a small western heel.
I love the idea of a 10x10, but it immediately highlights the fact that we have more facets to our clothing than just “tops, bottoms, shoes.” I think the ease of the number framework - 10x10, 333, 10 item wardrobe, etc - becomes moot when you start to say “I’m not counting this category, I’m not counting that category, yadda yadda…” I prefer to work with modules across all categories - so you have your jewelry module that you’re already wearing. You need a base layer module for warmth, an outerwear module, a lounge module, a workout module, a basics module, and a statement module. You need a module for shoes and another for bags and another for accessories. And who knows what else. But I like to think of it this way because it’s taking my whole life into consideration and then putting some parameters in place, rather than getting into arbitrary numbers that only refer to a tiny fraction of my actual needs. All that to say that the white tshirt is a base layer along with the bodysuit and leggings. And since you’re in Canada in January, I would include 3 sets of base layer items to cover a 10 day period.
The white t shirt and other basics should be “extras” that are always usable and then your 10x10 should be your core items that aren’t t shirts or basic cardigans!
I generally would not be so restrective! I think it doesn't really matter if you choose 10 or 15 items or whatever, important is not to shop and to have fun with your own wardrobe! I think it's rather stressy to choose 10 items each 10 days! I would go for a monthly or even saisonal capsule. So you are much more flexible and you need less time to choose a new capsule every time again!
Ok I have a question...10 items 10 days..im always cleaning my clothes after 1 day wear except for jeans and maybe blazer. Like 2 wears...I dont want to clean 5 items after 5 days ahah...what are you doing 🤔😂
I will not be joining you. I do wish you luck! And the white t shirt should not count if worn under clothing, however, if you're wearing it as its own piece, yes, it counts. Does that make sense? I'm concerned you're wearing these clothes as exercise clothing ... I think those should not count.
I love your videos!!! When the world is going crazy I come here because it’s just so comforting. 🥹 It’s so fun being a girl! I love clothes and styling and minimalism 💗 your videos always inspire me 🫶
So what do we think? Does the white t-shirt count? 😂 🧐
I don't think so. white or black t-shirts and/or tank tops is like underwear, especially in cold weather climate.
to me i thought that was the obvious thing about a capsule, you include things you want to wear more often, and you wear white ts all the time, so why even include it, it's almost like a supplement to your capsule, like capsule with a supporting role of the white t.
For my part, I never wear my long- or short-sleeve white tees on their own when it’s cold outside. They’re layering pieces for warmth, until spring.
I also vote no 😂
Definitely not for your location in the cold seasons! It's an undergarment, same for the unitard from Aritzia imho. Anything you are wearing under sweaters or blouses or dresses is a base layer in winter for northern climates! For a summer capsule I would count it though.
If the white t shirt is worn under as a layer, count it as underwear.
Yup. Also, I don’t like to rewear t-shirts. They go in the wash after one use. Just like underwear!😊
Yeah if it is functioning solely as underwear it shouldn't count. The only caveat I would say is if you categorize tshirts as underwear and say they don't count you couldn't then style the tshirt as a shirt with a blazer. I would call that cheating.
I agree! In this situation, it should count as underwear
Definitely for white t-shirts. One wear per wash.
I'm really getting into the idea of shopping out of my closet. I'm not buying anything unnecessary until may, just trying to get in the habit of not buying stuff...period. It's really fun. I love how you transferred the habit to your kitchen too! Such a good idea! And thank you for noticing ❤ glad you’re enjoying!
If you aren’t wearing the white tee as a top but under other items it could be grouped as an under garment.💕
It took me many years to learn how to utilize my wardrobe properly. We all have clothes that we wear once or occasionally just so that we can justify keeping them. I tend to like words more than pictures, so I keep an outfit list in my iPad Notes. I use it pretty much daily and sometimes add a new combination.

I really enjoy ur content! you motivate me to stay consistent with my minimalism journey but being yourself at the same time
I realize this is not exactly what you do but, what do you think about a uniform look? Jeans, white shirt, loafers….monochromatic pieces….etc.
Fantastic video content! Very inspiring and practical. Love, love, love! 💖

I'm not finding the cargo black sweatpants may I get a link grazie ❤
When you were talking about body shapes and started talking about fruits, I immediately thought ooh I’m a Lima bean , brown round and tiny 😅❤
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
How do you wear those grey trousers without ruining the hem? They seem SO long.
Great video. Thank you.

I hope you have fun and learn a lot with this 10x10 challange 😘
I just ordered the white tee. Mine are from J Crew but I don’t like the way the neck stretches out. Hope this one looks better
Loving that clothes rack, where'd you get it?? Thank you:)
Yamazaki home on Amazon!
@@Christinamychas thanks so much
Hello Christina.
I like this idea!
Where is the long sleeve shirt you are wearing throughout the video from? Thanks!
Aritzia! I think it’s Wilfred
Love this idea!! Don’t count the white T-shirt

Where are the black track pants from? Does anyone know?
If you aren’t counting outerwear, jewelry, leisurewear and sportswear , why count your shoes? Just count your outfits!
I was trying to follow the rules 😭😭😭 😂
How do you keep your white t shirts white?
I think white t shirt does not count I liked your advice what do you think about wearing a midi bodycon dress if I am a petite woman? I have all year to play! I’ve been wearing the 10x10 tho and I might change it to styling a lesser worn piece everyday or something.

How do your necklaces not tangle? I can't wear 2 or more, they always tangle around the sides/front of my neck.
they tangle haha

I like this idea 💡!
You should show the items and combinations.
I said I was going to vlog it!
Ya I bailed on it! You’ll see in the next vlog! It’s not the right challenge for my goal!
Ok I have a question...10 items 10 days..im always cleaning my clothes after 1 day wear except for jeans and maybe blazer. Like 2 wears...I dont want to clean 5 items after 5 days ahah...what are you doing 🤔😂
lol vlog coming soon but I modified it a lot for this reason
It would be great to see your 10 outfits that you did. If you wish :)
Pena não ter legendes ativadas para outros países.
I see a fair bit of new items though?
Yes, count the feakin' tshirt! 😂
If the clothing items are already part of a "uniform" I think you should exclude it.
Big Slim Skin sounds like a Stephen King character to me.
😂😂😂🤷♀️
Hi! I’ve been wondering where you’re from but when I heard tuques I knew it! Quebec ❤
She lives in Ontario not Quebec.
You win… hahaha😂😂😂😂
You don't wear shoes at the gym? Curious about that....
For foot splay and stability
I would count the t-shirt and not count the shoes.
I follow the daily connoisseur and she has a 10 item wardrobe, but she counts tees as extras…so make it an extra not a core item!
Tee is underwear should not be included.
I will not be joining you. I do wish you luck! And the white t shirt should not count if worn under clothing, however, if you're wearing it as its own piece, yes, it counts. Does that make sense? I'm concerned you're wearing these clothes as exercise clothing ... I think those should not count.
