  • How do I change an ignition switch on a Nissan Frontier? The truck is having starting issues. Intermittently truck does not start on the first turn of the key, but always on the second.
Suspected issue is a faulty ignition switch.
This job started out as a simple replacement but due to … well, you’ll see, it became a refurbishment of the old switch that fixed the problem. I should’ve just started with that.
So, if you’re having intermittent start issues with a late model Nissan Frontier or Pathfinder you may be able to fix it with a simple refurbishment - fancy way to say internal cleaning - of your old switch. Or you might ruin it. Who knows really?

Thanks guy in a shed!! I have the same problem and considered cleaning the switch first. You sealed the deal, that is what I will do this evening before buying a new one.

No guarantees but it did work for me. Let me know, I’m curious now :)

@stephen page ok, all done. contacts just looked old and dirty after 248k miles. Cleaned, greased, and SLIGHTLY bent one of the more worn areas up a bit. Also tugged on the springs a little for better cintact. So, fixed it for free thanks to your video verifying I could remove it easily! Thank you from Oklahoma!

I have an Infiniti QX60. The engine wont start up on pressing the button. The repair guy suspected replacing the ignition switch from the barrel near the break paddle as the battery was perfectly fine.
The burning question is - how do you start up the engine from the ignition switch below ?

How is the connector undone? You are lucky to fix the switch. Some starter motors draw high current through the ignition switch for a brief moment, I think melting away contact material. Maybe change the connections on the new plug if you can't fix the old.

If I remember correctly there is a tab that you squeeze to release the connector …

My issue on my 2005 is that it starts every time, but doesn’t always stop the engine when I remove the key. Not sure if changing/cleaning the switch will solve THAT issue. Thoughts?

I have lots of thoughts … I just wish some of them could be helpful - honestly I’m not sure. Sounds like some sort of problem with the ignition switch to me. But I’m not a mechanic - just a guy that isn’t afraid to break things trying …

I have to replace my ignition switch on my 2015 frontier. looks like the same setup as yours. Any hint on replacing this?

Nothing particularly helpful 😂 put the seat all the way back, have all the tools nearby find a comfortable way to lay in there so you can see, watch some videos more helpful than mine … that’s all I’ve got really … the most difficult part was contorting my body into position.

For the trouble of 4 bolts I pulled the seat out.

I'm having the same issue with my 2013 armada but I can't find any parts. Where did you find your parts? Thank you

I’m in Canada. They came from an online Canadian parts supplier (partsavatar) - but honestly they are hit or miss for me. Rockauto.com has much of what I need … truthfully though I have a great local parts store that is often competitive with any of the online suppliers, I go to them as often as I can.
In this case when the replacement part proved faulty I (out of desperation) attempted to refurbish the old one and it worked. You might have success trying that too ?

@@TheBrokenBolt thanks. Yeah I have to turn the key super slow and it starts more often that way. If I come in hot and over turn it wont start. I'll clean it out fingers crossed

@@ezie911 that’s exactly what this one was doing. Don’t know if yours is the same problem or not but it’s what mine turned out to be.
