I put a Flagship One ECU in my Honda Accord about 3 years ago and have not had any problems since I installed it. I've seen some complaints about their products/services but I have none. Lifetime warranty on the ECU as well.
Ivan, I suspect Flagship One is like any other business. The more computers they see the better they get. Diagnostic equipment is also getting better. I also hope auto manufacturers are becoming more sharing with their schematics on these devices. From the comments below it sounds like Flagship One is committed to a positive outcome as an end result. Hearing that truck fire sure sounded sweet! Thanks for Sharing!
Thank you Ivan. I find the most difficult to diagnose car problems are computer based, electric signals and their devices. You really focus on these... so again thanks.
got my fs1 ecu in two weeks. had cold weather no start. pluged it in and started right up' no key reprogram or anything else. hardest part was getting that bottom bolt out. very happy. 2007 pathfinder.
That’s awesome to hear. I have the exact same issue and found his part 1 video. I just bought a FS1 ECU and I’m hoping the cold temp no start is gone like yours.
Wow good job! I was a mastertech at a nissan for 20 years. I like watching your videos. It reminds me when I was on the field. It takes skills to trouble shoot different brand like you do. In Quebec where I live, corrosion appears sooner then you. I’ve seen a lot of problems with ecm cause by the battery to body ground just next to the battery. There’s a little bracket that can be discard to avoid voltage drop. Also, the immobilizer is located in the BCM. It means that you can simply cycle the key to program then. Can’t wait to see you troubleshoot other nissan!
I just took apart my GM van ecm cleaned it out checked solder joints 2003 with 360 k miles still perfect. I sealed up after to prevent moisture water entry.

I've never personally delt with FS1, but I know a number of people who have. And it's been mostly good stuff from them. Every one of them had no complaints with their customer support.
I bought a ford exploder from a dealer non running and sent computer to flagship one and had one mishap with it sent it back and they fixed it no problems. Like you said have to give them credit they are getting better i believe. Always enjoy your videos. Thank you.
The Final Frontier.....These are the activities of Ivan Temnykh......His continuing mission......To seek out strange new issues......To establish new methods of repair and replace......TO BOLDLY DO WHAT NO MAN HAS DONE BEFORE!!!!! All kidding aside, I got the distinct impression you weren't thrilled with Flagship 1. There always seemed to be some issue with something they did; looks like you have them headed in the right direction. Now, if you will excuse me, I am going to enjoy some traditional Russian Borscht. Great video!
It would be interesting if you could ask the repair facility for the ECM why your backup/spare computer was buzzing, hissing, or fizzing......;-) It would also be interesting to know what they fixed and how. Did they find a blown component or just reflow some connections? Great video as always Ivan.
My family has had like 6 of that platform truck and this video makes me miss our old frontier even more. Just a port injected v6, normal 4WD with low range, no front axle disconnect, and an optional 6 speed. Plus IMO the engines sound great.
It doesn't hurt that Ivan has a TH-cam channel, where he can call a company out when they do wrong. If Flagship 1 has a 50/50 record with Ivan who has a TH-cam channel, what about the average person? What are our odds? And if something is wrong, how will we be treated?
@@kv2280 Yeah having 158k people that will know right away and spread the word makes a difference I'm sure. Who knows but unfortunately some company's just don't g.a.f. hopefully they'll treat the regular person the same as ivan.
Great job!! I have same truck 2005. Giving me gremlins and phantom codes. First , o2 sensor, then weirdly the crank sensor. My mech couldn’t figure it out. Thought my ECU was fried. Saw this, ordered new one from Flagship. Got car running , let it idle for 15 minutes or so, then idled jumped to about 2k, 4wd light went on. Shut it down, dials on dashboard ( rpm and speed) started jittering and clicking. Tried to restart, nothing battery felt dead and did read about 8 volts on ammeter of dash . Disconnected battery. Went back to your videos. Can’t figure out. Must be a communication issue. Man I wish you were on Staten Island or can refer me to someone just as good as you here. Keep up these great and super informative videos.
I'm keeping both of these videos. I have an 06 Frontier 4.0L, 6 Speed Manual, 4X4, with an ARB Air Locker in the rear differential. Mine has 117,000 + miles on the odometer. It is resting in my garage, will be coming out near Christmas to haul gifts to family members on Christmas Day. When we have snow (Southern California, Antelope Valley, Palmdale) the 4WD makes it easier, and sometimes fun to drive. Good fix on this one Ivan.
What about "Maic Salazar Diagnostics" for your ECM repairs? I recently came across his TH-cam channel and seems to be good at repairing ECMs and all sorts of modules. Plus he usually makes a video of the actual repair too. I think dealing with an individual instead of a corporation will get you better customer service for sure! I can't vouch for him, no idea how good or fast his service actually is, but maybe worth a shot if he's got a good rep. If anything, his videos take you deep inside the ECM and various modules and help you get a component level understanding of how they function. Who knows, it may help you start to get to component level module repair, we all know you like to actually fix the problem and not just replace the bad modules.
Glad to hear Flagship 1 was able to come through for you. Unfortunately that wasn't my experience. How about reading their terms for warranty to the subscribers. The part that got me was if you use the warranty once the life time guarantee is done.
I can’t pass up one of your videos. I had to chuckle remembering the last diesel truck I had. I sent the fuel injection control module off for a rebuild and it fixed the crappy running engine. And the same truck had a knock in the suspension system that my wife couldn’t hear and said I was obsessing over. It turned out to be a shock bushing.
Wow, flagship made the right call and actually fixed it? Lol. I'm amazed by that lol. I've heard horror stories, haha. Nice fix!! At least everything is working! Great job Ivan!!
Flagship 1 took months and 2 computers to resolve the issue with my 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Not a good customer service experience at all but eventually all is working very well.
great videos, i have an older nissan pathfinder doing a similar thing.. im gonna check the immobilizer relay first but I think maybe the ecm or perhaps the key code got reset when draining the battery. I really hope my ECM isnt blown but It wasnt connecting also so
I think I would have checked the sleep current of the repaired module. Then I would make sure the cooling fan(s) are cycling correctly and confirm the fan(s) operation with live data with the scan tool. Usually, I find the EVAP monitor will not pass until the tank is below 3/4 full and above 1/4 full, and it will require two drive cycles (trips) of proper set condition operation.

Hmm... I would never have plugged a good ECM without first doing a resistance and voltage check on the 5V wires to see if there was a dead short or spurious 12V backfeeding from somewhere. I literally puckered up when you did that. And then you didn't kill the power immediately when the noise happened.... As mentioned by some other commenters, that whistling was probably an unhappy switching power supply, possibly because of being under heavy load (think the mysteriously low 1.5V on the 5V rail). It is possible you still have an intermittent short on the 5V line, which could reassert itself and blow up the 5V supply again... As mentioned, it would have been good to ohm out the 5V line while you had the ECM connectors off.
This Guy is not a mechanic this Guy inginer his super good is one of the best technicians I haven't ever seen before good for this Guy congratulations to have guy's like this they can help us to pinpoint some ur problems

It Started with TV repair back in 90s modules fail whole TV junk .My uncle had TV electronic repairs shop for decades closed it down in 90s . Throw away disposable consumer products . @Anti-Troll Comedian: It's possible, but if you disconnect a module from the vehicle, you also disconnect all the sensors, actuators, injectors, etc. So if you power the module up, it's like somebody waking up to find that they can't feel or move their body. Naturally, the module will freak out, thinking there are a million things broken or missing. In order to do this properly (which repair shops need to do), you have to hook the module up to a machine which fakes all the sensors, in effect creating an "artificial body". In the case of an ECM test bench, they'll hook it up to a machine that emulates "injectors", "crank trigger", "oil pressure sensor", etc. etc. etc. They make big machines for this which are basically an entire fake engine.
Nice job Ivan, I think our thoughts on Flagship one are very similar. I hope they're doing as good a job for everyone as they did for you this time. Perhaps your national exposure has picked up their socks a bit. Their service is almost indispensable in today's auto industry. I hope they step up :~>
As to WHY the 5V supply grenaded, that is still an open question. Particularly with the phantom whistling, which was possibly an overloaded 5V supply in the donor ECM. There is quite possibly a short in the 5V wiring somewhere on the truck which is blowing the 5V supply in the ECM.
Plenty of electronic components go pop when they explode. Capacitors, transistors, even resistors if you nuke em bad enough. That's not necessarily what "started it all", though. The popping component could've been caused by a short etc. elsewhere which could still exist....
IVAN, great fix as always really enjoyed the videos and good for FLAGSHIPONE will be looking for them for used computers and did ur scanner think tool pros give the pin code for IMMOBILIZER or u pay for it to get the CODE thankyou and as always learning from the best cheeeeers.
Awesome video, I'm needing to replace the ECM on my Pathfinder, it looks like the same setup here. Do you have any advice on how to remove the bottom bolt on the ECM? I can NOT get to it.
Great video Ivan. Only question I have is. What's the difference between the thinktool pro vs the pro S? Any input would be greatly appreciated because I am looking into buying one.
Great ending, Ivan! I'm still wondering about the parasitic draw - did it go away after ECM repaired? Could be the ECM drawing through faulty 5V reference.
See the Part 1 bonus footage. Coil whine mysteriously stopped, and then later so did the parasitic draw. I firmly believe the root cause was not the ECM, but rather something is wrong with the truck 5V wiring/sensors that caused the ECM to blow. Could be a short, could be 12V backfeeding, etc. Tests were not done to determine that... we just assumed the Big Evil Computer was the root cause.
@@Friend_of_the_One-Eyed_Ladies Yep. I thought that too, but the new ECM apparently stopped the whining. Moving the harness to replace ECM could clear whatever drain problem there was, but I'm more convinced that the reference 5V smps inside the ECM could be the problem. We will know if it returns with the same problem 🙂 Merry Christmas.
This control unit is normally attached to 2 screws at the top and bottom. And not on a screw like in the video. But how do I get to the bottom screw? It's a shame you can't see that in the video

2008 Nissan Titan LE. When I turn the key to the On position, the security light remain on constant, the cooling fan comes on, the lights come on, and the vehicle does not start. I need help getting the vehicle back on the road - can you help?
Hi sir good morning, please i have a problem with my Nissan frontier, security light is on, but the is no check engine light. So please i need your help. And i have a code u1000.and i check the wires, they are ok.
My brother had an intermittent no crank no start. I could not figure it out. I found a PDU recall. He took it to the dealer and they replaced the PDU for free. Solved it.
Does your scan tool check the 4wheel drive system. I am sure that my 2013 Nissan Titan makes a chime while you rotate the 4wd switch, but now it’s gone ,but the 4wd system works fine. Will the think tool able to turn the chime back on.
You 80s guys and your "bad caps", SMH. Watch the bonus footage on Part 1. I guess your "bad caps" magically refilled themselves with electrolyte? That's not what's going on here.
What was causing the buzzing in the "parts" ECM that eventually went away? Also, I'm wondering how Flagship actually tests the ECM since there are so many with different configurations. Perhaps you got lucky. Maybe you'll be able to fix them yourself.
My guess is that the buzzing/hissing on the replaced ECM was because its capacitors were also on the way out, and the lack of filtering was causing the SMPS to oscillate.
@A Dot in The Shark: Sounds like coil whine from a power supply that is working really hard. Given the context, possibly the 5V supply feeding a short circuit in the 5V wiring/sensors on the truck. Was that what fried the 5V output on the original computer? Quite possibly... and no checks were made to see if there was a shorted circuit... before plugging another computer into the system. 😒 The fact that both the coil whine and the parasitic draw went away (Part 1 bonus footage) makes me think something is still rotten in Denmark. But Flagship One will take the blame if/when it fails, right or wrong!
@@Friend_of_the_One-Eyed_Ladies The parasitic draw and the hissing stopped after he power cycled the ECM, which leads me to believe it's one of the capacitors in the 5V circuit which would be switched off. Given that he had no issues with the replacement ECM, the malfunction was internal to the old ECM. Could be a dead cap or a MOSFET that is shorted pulling the power lines down.
Well done ivan :-D The nissan is no longer a garden stealer lol. I hope flagship One keeps improving it's diagnostic ability. They are needed. Being ripped off by the stealerships or the parent company is greed. Don't i moan a lot lol :-D

That's why I own Volkswagens no computer brain 74 convertible 73 Baja Bug and a nice sand rail to boot
I always had good luck with flagship one
If they repair the same computer you still have tobreprogram? What about if you buy used one same code
Hi sir good morning, please i have a problem with my Nissan frontier, security light is on, but the is no check engine light. So please i need your help. And i have a code u1000.and i check the wires, they are ok.
My Pathfinder is making same noise from same spot front shocks lower bushing
Anti-climatic but glad it worked. I don't think the owner would of had that level of success with the other shop even if they made the right call.
Flagship one for the win, all in all Nissans are pretty good, I can't remember any vehicle where they screwed the pooch
What type of screwdriver did you use to unscrew the bolt from the ECM from the car
Is there any possibility that you could have done what flagship1 did? or is it quicker and cheaper to let them do it? great job Ivan
Because of the noise the other ECM made, I have to wonder if the refurbishment is changing the caps in a switch mode power supply.
You 80s guys and your "bad caps", SMH. Watch the bonus footage on Part 1. I guess your "bad caps" magically refilled themselves with electrolyte? That's not what's going on here.
@@Friend_of_the_One-Eyed_Ladies Caps can reform when power is applied. Do you have a better explanation?
What 'Popped' in the ECM? Did they say what they fixed?
Why dont you send ecms to United Radio in Syracuse? Great group of people
Doesn’t Eric O use them? Or do i remebmer wrong 😀
@@Syntappi yes
What was causing the buzzing in the "parts" ECM that eventually went away? Also, I'm wondering how Flagship actually tests the ECM since there are so many with different configurations. Perhaps you got lucky. Maybe you'll be able to fix them yourself.
Automotive sensor simulator, like MST 9000+, is used to provide test signals to the engine computer.
My guess is that the buzzing/hissing on the replaced ECM was because its capacitors were also on the way out, and the lack of filtering was causing the SMPS to oscillate.
@ Stoney3K: And the capacitors magically refilled themselves with electrolyte for the bonus footage at the end of Part 1?
How much was the ECM repair Ivan? If you could share.
Ivan, are there any other computer rebuilders beside FlagShip 1.
Amazing you can send a dead computer to someone and it come back perfect again I love that
Ivan can fuel injector oring be a source for vacuum leak without leaking or perhaps even the vibration dampers on the fuel injector 2011 camry
"Leak without leaking"??
Yes there is no fuel odor or leaks but could there be a vacuum leak from the fuel injector vibration dampers or fuel injector o rings
@@andyg5004 yes that is possible.
Yea! 😆
Maybe Flagship one finally getting their act together.
does FS1 tell you what they found and fixed?
Well done ivan :-D The nissan is no longer a garden stealer lol.
I hope flagship One keeps improving it's diagnostic ability.
They are needed.
Being ripped off by the stealerships or the parent company is greed.
Don't i moan a lot lol :-D
Does Flagship1 tell you what they found wrong with the computer?
Why did the computer go bad ?
Did Flagship 1 ever fix that BMW ECU?
not as far as I know...never heard back from the owner lol
send it in get it back plug it in , start it up and test ride. Wait for snow. I will send it.take care.
How much for computer rapair?
how did you get the bottom bolt off?
What was the cost to Flagship one for fixing the module?
About half the cost of a reman, and one sixth of the cost of a brand new unobtanium ECM haha
