Absolutely love your pup! My first doggo was an Akita and they're very similar and my second dog was a malamute. He had hip problems as he aged :( my third dog was a chow and lab mix named Kona and that dog went with me everywhere. The lab in him made him more tolerable than full blooded chows because chows have a reputation for being overly protective and stuff. Kona was scared of loud bangs like fireworks and guns and 7 years ago I came home on the 4th of July to find him on the floor with his tongue hanging out of his mouth and he could barely breath. I scooped him up and sped to the nearest animal hospital where I sat waiting on the lobby for an hour. The nurse came out and asked if I wanted to say goodbye and I began crying. He had some blood vessels rupture in his heart causing a heart attack of sorts and they brought him back to life twice long enough for us to basically see him again. I'm 26 and at the time was living with my parents. They showed up and we all went in the room to see him one last time. He had tubes and wires hanging off him and he was barely alive. We stood over him and he looked at us, wagged his bushy tail and they had to let him go. I cried harder than I've ever cried, I spent days and weeks crying. The hardest part was carrying his body to my truck. I wrapped him in a sheet and the next day We had him cremated and I saved his collar and his favorite stuffed animal he treated like it was his own baby. I have another chow now named Zeke who I swear is the reincarnation of Kona. Sometimes I really think it's true. I still get teary eyed telling konas story because they dog was my life. He slept beside me, went everywhere with me, played with me, he knew when I was down or on pain and would lean on me with his paw on my lap and would take his paw across my hand to get me to love on him more and more. A dog like that is NOT just a pet or some animal friend.. It's a part of your family, your soul and dogs show nothing but unconditional love and affection for their owners. You accidentally step on their tail or paw and they forgive you. A cat will run off and hide for days before coming out. Dogs are here to make us better people. Your malamutes howl sounded just like konas when he would talk. You have one special fury friend
