  • In this video, I’m reviewing Heavenbreaker by Sara Wolf.
Only a few space stations are left after the war. The people inside live in the wards and entertain themselves with the jousting tournaments. Synali’s life doesn’t get to stay so simple after her mother is assassinated. She spends six months trying to learn who did it until she finally finds a way in and puts a dagger in her noble father’s back. But killing him isn’t enough. His house still stands. His accomplishes are still alive. If she fades away now, no one will know that he tried to kill his bastard daughter. Luckily another noble has just the right plan to see her history set right. By joining him in winning a jousting tournament, the man not only offers her revenge on everyone involved with her mother’s murder but also relief at the end. All she has to do is survive all seven rounds of the tournament. But as she spends more time in her stead, she’s not entirely sure if she’s the only one controlling the machine.

This was an impulse buy for me. It was surprisingly good. Can anyone recommend this book more, than this! ‘Jousting in space!!!’

I’m so glad you got the book. I know it’s YA, but the Skyward series by Brandon Sanderson is really good and the series is complete.

I agree with you on the point A to B. There definitely were some times i was confused with what was going on and there wasn’t enough explanation. I had to re read some parts to get a better understanding. I literally just got into reading and read the first couple pages of this book at Costco and i bought it. Saw online this was considered a scfi Romantasy, but there really wasn’t any romance like you said. Very minor. It felt realistic. I personally like fantasy/scfi genre by itself. I would have enjoyed some more world building to get a better understanding of how everything appears. There was a part in the book where one of the commentators said there were 15 million people tuned in to there vis watching and i had a “holy shit” moment not realizing how big the space station really was. Overall i really liked the book. Synali is a badass character. She matured a lot from start to finish. We still don’t know what Draviks full motive is behind all of this! We can assume, but it really wasn’t confirmed. Don’t under estimate the pawn because the can only move forward. Solid review 👍🏼

Thank you so much! You say it perfectly. There needed to be more world building - not that the book isn’t massive already. I hope there’s more in book two, especially around the war. I have this feeling the “aliens” are going to be the good guys in all of this. 😂 Have you read the Murderbot Diaries? If you like scifi then you might like them.

@@DarkSideoftheWordPodcast that’s such a good point. The aliens don’t even seem bad at all and the humans are clearly abusing one of them or how ever many they have at the core powering the station. I have no read that book. Just starting my reading journey so i don’t have much read yet. I’ve got a solid TBR thought. I’m currently reading The Lord of the Rings The Two Towers

Whew.... that's a big book to start your journey with. I haven't even gotten through The Fellowship of the Ring yet. If you ever need more recommendations let me know! I also have a pretty good backlist on my blog (same name). And, since you liked Heavenbreaker, if you don't mind YA, Skyward by Brandon Sanderson is really good and the series is complete.

Had a fun time reading “Heavenbreaker” this past Memorial Day weekend and can’t wait for the continuation in “Hellrunner”!
Question - Who do you think is the 7th person to perish? (in relation to those connected to the murder of Synali’s mother)

I'm so glad you liked the book! Good question... I'm not sure. I knew that the grandmother was definitely a target. After her, I think I'm losing count of the characters. Maybe the assassin? I'm curious to see what his relationship with Synali is. Who do you think it is?

The assassin Rain is Synalis half brother. Dravik states that in the book when he’s talking to Rain. They give clues to it throughout. So basically he kills his mother not even knowing that was his mother 😢
