I feel like it was just yesterday that I posted my first video of me learning how to ride. If you enjoyed this video and want to see more, I post new videos on my channel documenting my motorcycle journey. Thanks for coming along for the ride! :)

Sorry the audio is a bit distorted in some parts 😩 I hope it’s not too annoying. I will figure out a better way to do commentary as I ride in the future lol

the audio is mostly okay...its just that the mic seems to be picking up only a specific part of the bike exhaust note and that makes it irritatingly peaky!

I learned to fly in my late twenties. I set a goal to learn something on every flight. I flew more than 2000 hours over the next twenty years and DID learn something on every flight. I loved it. I started riding a motorcycle at age 58. I gave myself the same goal and putting the bike back in the garage after every ride, I've never been challenge with "what did I learn on that trip?" The lessons have been obvious and great. I'm now 72. I've ridden to Alaska, Newfoundland (twice) and across North America on several occasions. I'm still learning but always, loving the lessons. I wish you the same Rea! Be safe.

Congratulations on a year as a rider.
Maintaining the chain and the rest of the bike, cleaning, polishing, and waxing are part of owning a bike.
The more you work on it, the better you'll get to know it, and develop a special relationship with it.
Being a motorcyclist means so much more than just riding. It means learning skills, learning how to use tools, and in general makes you more aware of the world around you.
You’ll start seeing things on the road you've never noticed before, even when youre not riding.
    Best wishes ❤️

Hi rea, just think of that rain as liquid sunshine. That wind as a cooling breeze that you don't get during Kona winds. That is riding in paradise!

I remember the first time I spent a year riding. I went all over India, Thailand, Cambodia. Then Western Europe. I learned to maintain my bikes and even helped replace my engine in Nepal. When I got home after a whole year or riding, I was so happy to get back into my car. So I know what you mean. I didn't ride continuously for the who year but some week I was travelling hundreds of miles a day! Best way to see the world.

Hey Rea, I started riding a few months ago and your vids have helped the process so much! My journey was similar to yours, I even got the same exact bike you have. However, I recently got into an accident which is unfortunate (driver pulled in front of me) so things have been rough. But your vids have helped a lot so thanks for all the content.

Congrats on your first year! I love all your observations. Yeah, drivers here are terrible, but I think being a rider makes you a better driver -- and it's a skill you'll have forever, even if you stop riding. And as unpredictable as the weather seems here, you'll get to the point where one look at the sky, and you can predict rain better than any weather app. lol! BTW, are you going to the Toys for Tots run this year? If not, you should look into it. It feels like EVERY MOTORCYCLE on the island shows up every year. It's kind of a must-do-at-least-once event if you ride here.

Congrats on one year of riding! I've been catching up on your progress and it's funny how I can relate to so much stuff in this video, prime example is the 'bad drivers' part lol.
My first time driving with a 2 wheeled motorized vehicle was with a scooter so I could get to school back in 2019. Absolutely hated the practical part of 'stay 12 seconds in a space of 12m while riding at pedestrian speed', but it was so handy in the end. The skill you mentioned as to literally predict how other drivers would behave in front of you, I can relate so much to it. The smallest bit of danger I sensed, I immediately slowed down and took even more distance for safety. I drove this scooter until late 2022 when I got my temporary car drivers license. After this I didn't really think of getting a motorcycle or anything.
Time passes, I pick up the hobby of WW2 reenactments and I met those motorcycles up close. Few events pass until an event near summer. I asked a group that had an old (1943) 50cc turned 80cc motorcycle if I could take a test drive with it, mentioned to them I had driven a 50cc scooter and they let me try it out. At this point, I was sold. I loved riding it, enjoyed every little speed increase, bump in the dirt and turning. After this I decided to get a motorcycle of my own for the hobby and personal private enjoyment.
I'm currently learning in my small neighborhood on an old solo Dnepr K750 from 1966 (Soviet time!) as my first motorcycle. May seem as an odd choice, knowing it's a 750cc, 2 cylinder side valve engine with 26HP.. but I absolutely love it. Despite owning it since september 2023, I am still getting a feel for it in higher speed turns and tight slow turns. I did have to learn shifting early on due to the limits of this type of motorcycle.
I look forward to seeing more!

Thank you so much for this comment and for sharing your journey of learning how to ride a motorcycle! 😊 safe riding and you’ll have to update me on your personal milestones once you reach them!! An important one for me was going on the freeway for the first time! It took me a very long time to get the courage to do so but such a rewarding experience.

Yeah, everybody outgrows their first bike. It's not even a question. What are you looking at to upgrade to hmmmm?
I dislike riding in the rain too. It gets the bike extra filthy and I loathe having to clean it.
Layers help with wind. A zip up hoodie under your regular jacket and a fleece neck gaiter are game changers.
Congrats on making it a year! Many don't. Until next time, cheers!

I too have about a year of riding now. Well a Minnesota year, lol. Still I have 2500 miles done during my first season. There is still so much to learn and yes I too find myself getting a bit over confident. I did already upgrade the bike from a Ninja 400 to a Trident 660. Mainly due to comfort. Actually finding the Trident an easier bike to ride and the extra power is not scary. Comes on very smoothly.
I'm excited to see what your next bike will be!

Hey! I hope you have enjoyed your experience this whole time. It seems you have seeing your videos 😊. I know you have been avoiding rain, but what would you say are some tips for rain riding? Did you try that rain-guard thing for your visor? Also other than riding have you tried practicing things like u-turns, figure 8, and full stops as fast and safe as posible (to increase the speed of your progressive braking)?

    • @RidewithRea
      @RidewithRea  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi, yes I've really enjoyed the experience so far. I would say tips for the rain would be using something like Rain-X for your helmet visor to help with visibility & rain moto gear that is water resistant. I've practiced u-turns and figure 8s a few weeks ago but not as much as when I used to practice for my MSF course.
