The thing is that there are a lot of good quality stories on Wattpad. For example, in the historical fiction genre and fantasy sections. This book is one of many works that manage to get loose in the real world that is very poor quality. I think that whoever allowed this book to be published should have said that it wasn't ready to be published. It is problematic, is poorly written, and very poor quality. The author herself is very problematic as well. She refuses to listen to the criticism directed to her stories.
The fact that this is a Wattpad book has me ASTOUNDED that none of the girls fell in love with their kidnapper and ended up living kidnappily ever after
Actually, one of the girls Rose actually was in love with them. Before she was kidnapped, they were in love theoretically. He took her to his home hoping that she would be his wife, but she discovered the flower girls, which then "forced" him to convert her into a flower girl. He always wished that that didn't happen and that he could be her husband. Rose never wanted to hurt him and never wanted to escape. She was in love with him and he was in love with her. I know this because I read the book this summer [Ha, that's her name] on a beach trip because I finished my book and that was the book my friend brought.
I’ve made the mistake on multiple occasions of buying a book because it sounds really good and then finding out when it arrives that it’s a watt pad book and I instantly regret it

No but I’m pretty sure one of the other girls (Rose maybe?) did have some Stockholm syndrome so uh...ya That’s in the wattpad book at least not sure about the final one
I've seen some pretty decent kidnapping books and one that I wish was more popular (don't remember the name) was more focused on the horrors of kidnapping and actually exhibited full-on trauma. I wish I remembered the name. I read it when I got my start on wattpad. But it was the rare well-written book.
The world needs a needs a super arrogant main character that gets turned down by every other character. Like at the beginning of the book they describe themself as stunning and everyone thinks they're average. Just to shake it up.
Bittersweet, somber, solemn, downtrodden, halfhearted, mournful, resigned, hopeless… “an uneasy smile she sent to me set a weight in my stomach. I could tell from her eyes that she had seen other girls end up here, all with lives to live and dreams to follow, and watched them lose the initial will to bother. All conveyed in a simple, dreadful smile” Literally anything to give complexity to a simple gesture (and by no means am I a good author, I was just spewing words).

If the kidnapper really wanted to run with the flower theme, he could have named himself something that related to flowers but was slightly more intimidating. Like "The Gardener" or "Aphid". "Clover" just makes him sound like a particularly earnest hippie or a mild-mannered dairy cow.
I mean... he could have called her Hydrangea. You kept saying "Poppy," but I heard it as "papi" and i was thinking, "why the heck is he calling the girl daddy?"

I remember reading that when I was like 12 thinking it was genius. I tried to read it about a year ago and only then did I realize just how BAD IT IS. goodness, poor natasha
I read this book when I was twelve and I would read lines to my friends, and just make fun of it and all of my friends read it after me. It was a tough experience.
I remember trying to read this!! I don't even remember what I searched up, but I got through about three chapters. Didn't recognize the name until I heard the 'lily' part.
My number one takeaway from this review is that if I ever get kidnapped by a psychopath, I want Caleb to get kidnapped with me. We’d be out of that cellar in 30 minutes or less.
Idea: when you're cooking his eggs, just use the hot pan as a bludgeoning tool. It doesn't have to be sharp if he's unconscious and looks like Harvey Dent.
Chekhov's Pan. Also, I'm sad that they never made it for coffee. It would've been better if they just had a nice, peaceful cup of joe and then he shoved her in his van and took her home afterwards.
The whole “kidnapped girls who are renamed after flowers” setup was literally the premise for a creepypasta I read years ago omg this is so funny It even had where there had been other girls assigned the same flower name who’d been killed off
She did mentioned her family a few times but said that thinking about them made her depressed but thinking about Lewis made her more hopeful and I have the feeling that she wasn't that close to her family at all and felt that Lewis loves and cares for her more than her own family care about her.
“The prostitutes are doing harm, harm to the innocent families of the men, that use them. So why doesn’t he kill the men?” Oh Caleb, you sweet summer child. Also, i loved how this was a 30 minute worth of Caleb bashing on the Socratic Method. I can just imagine him as a teacher. Student: tentatively raises hand Caleb: STOP ASKING QUESTIONS!!!!1!!1!!!!
I remember watching that episode on TV when i was younger, it freaked me out so much i turned it off. I thought about it many times for years, i thought it was a movie. I would google the plot and never found anything. Now you mention it’s an episode in Criminal minds and omg you’ve solved this life long mystery for me..thank you 🥺
Elizabeth leung That is exactly what I thought when I read it!! I stopped in the middle of the book when I realized I’d heard this before, and found the episode (and watched it 😂)
1D/TheTide/WDW/NHC/Waterparks/Mendes/Dolan/J&J Fan i have nooo idea but if it was made before criminal minds, does that mean the criminal minds writers read wattpad? lmao
@@artificialgumi Nah, the book was published in 2014, the episode aired early 2016 :^) seems like they go to wattpad for inspiration but idk I don't watch Criminal Minds :)
I LOVE it when main characters have low self-esteem. It's so quirky! Also, Lily could have easily made a shiv with that spatula. Hell she could have made mulitple shivs, form a take-down team with Violet and the others. She could also smash ANY appliances or furniture and fashion a weapon from it. SHE COULD EVEN CUT HER HAIR AND USE IT TO CHOKE CLOVER! But no. In this world, humans in captivity COULDN'T care less. I think if the author included just a little bit of action, this book would be way more interesting.
The worst part is that a lot of time victims of kidnapping really don’t try to kill their captors despite having opportunities, and if this was actually well written they could have shown that, like have them be too afraid and mentally beaten down to attack him, but no, instead this book chooses to just make all these characters look like idiots.
If i remember correctly, he routinely checks in on them and doesn't give them anything even remotely useful to hurt him with except for the pans. And even then, he is Terrifying from what I can remember. Most of his power is what he has mentally convinced them of, which is the fact that he will immediately kill them if they try something. They also get like routinely raped by him which is physical and mental torture.
The funny thing is summer literally suggested(or thought of) throwing a pot of boiling water on him…but never did. Like What’s the point of writing that into the story and not have the characters attempt to do it? 😭
These flower names remind me of that one Criminal Minds episode "Hostage" where the kidnapper gave all the girls flower names: Violet, Lily, Jasmine, Rose, Daisy.
I used to work in a used bookstore, and every time I would be able to clearance this book, a new one would turn up in its place-waiting for me to shelve it. It was a literal nightmare. Eventually I just started clearance-ing it right away-no one should have to stumble upon that book and accidentally read it, no one.

Also, I'm sad that they never made it for coffee. It would've been better if they just had a nice, peaceful cup of joe and then he shoved her in his van and took her home afterwards.
The whole “kidnapped girls who are renamed after flowers” setup was literally the premise for a creepypasta I read years ago omg this is so funny
It even had where there had been other girls assigned the same flower name who’d been killed off
I’m literally obsessed with your channel, I’ve binge watched everything.
S e, same
Same!
Yes! I just rewatch the same videos over and over, laughing at the same jokes every time.
Oh my god I remember my friends talking about this on Wattpad when we were... like, 13. This is a blast from the past.
The cellar sounds better than the forced triple dorm I had freshman year of college 😅😂
Brooke Smith Same!
I'm in triple dorm and it sucks. I cant get out for 2 more years.
Are we going to ignore the fact that they could have thrown boiling water on him ?????
Another thing that kind of annoyed me about Summer is that she constantly talks about missing Lewis, but not her parents or brother.
She did mentioned her family a few times but said that thinking about them made her depressed but thinking about Lewis made her more hopeful and I have the feeling that she wasn't that close to her family at all and felt that Lewis loves and cares for her more than her own family care about her.
SHE HAS A BROTHER?
“Ya know...just peel him.:)”-insanereader 2019
"just start *frantic arm movements* pealing him" I'm dying.
Warning: do not watch this while eating.
I kept laughing and choking on my waffle.
You nearly killed me, Caleb.
I could of dropped my croissant.
'but we have to work together!'
''ok dora''
I YEETED
“The prostitutes are doing harm, harm to the innocent families of the men, that use them.
So why doesn’t he kill the men?”
Oh Caleb, you sweet summer child.
Also, i loved how this was a 30 minute worth of Caleb bashing on the Socratic Method. I can just imagine him as a teacher.
Student: tentatively raises hand
Caleb: STOP ASKING QUESTIONS!!!!1!!1!!!!
“Welcome to another episode of me screaming.” 😂
This is nearly the exact plot of a Criminal Minds episode! “The Hostage” Season 11 Episode 14
I remember watching that episode on TV when i was younger, it freaked me out so much i turned it off. I thought about it many times for years, i thought it was a movie. I would google the plot and never found anything. Now you mention it’s an episode in Criminal minds and omg you’ve solved this life long mystery for me..thank you 🥺
Okay, now I gotta watch this. I love criminal minds.
Elizabeth leung That is exactly what I thought when I read it!! I stopped in the middle of the book when I realized I’d heard this before, and found the episode (and watched it 😂)
Wasn’t this released before that episode though?
1D/TheTide/WDW/NHC/Waterparks/Mendes/Dolan/J&J Fan i have nooo idea but if it was made before criminal minds, does that mean the criminal minds writers read wattpad? lmao
The changing their names to flowers is from an episode of Criminal Minds. 🌻
Omg that’s why it felt so familiar! I think that episode came out before the story though, but idk
Do you remember what episode? I feel like that one will definitely have a better plot with the same concept.
Season 11 (Netflix)
@Emily Maybe they have like... kids plastic knives and it just takes them hours. (you can still do a lot of harm with that, but whatever)
The worst part is that a lot of time victims of kidnapping really don’t try to kill their captors despite having opportunities, and if this was actually well written they could have shown that, like have them be too afraid and mentally beaten down to attack him, but no, instead this book chooses to just make all these characters look like idiots.
lmao exactly. stupid flower girls
She could have PEELED HIM! Or stabbed him with the peeler, I’m not picky
They had pots and a working stove and no one’s thought to throw boiled water on him? I’d even vomit on him to try and throw him off for an escape!
There's highkey an ep of criminal minds that's exactly like this but better written. Like the flower names, rape, and family dynamic. Wild
Wow. What’s the episode called?
KC it’s called “The Hostage”. It’s season 11, ep 14
the book came out before that episode :)
I used to work in a used bookstore, and every time I would be able to clearance this book, a new one would turn up in its place-waiting for me to shelve it. It was a literal nightmare. Eventually I just started clearance-ing it right away-no one should have to stumble upon that book and accidentally read it, no one.
"Why don't you peel him?" Iconic
She's written more than one book and in one of those books she's written has her main character falling in love with the man that kidnaps her.
