MY WHEEL EXPLODED RIDING THIS INSANE TRAIL!!! (RIDE ROCK CREEK)

I'll be the first person to say I never thought I would experience something like a wheel implosion! After a full day of bike park riding with my friend Simon at Ride Rock Creek, we decided to pre-ride the pro course - Stampede. A pre-ride is critical on a track like Stampede as it is designed to push riders and their bikes to the limit through massive features and epth-definging terrain. On this particular pre ride lap it was a goal of mine to complete each of the major features one by one until I felt confined on them. When I attempted the tombstone gap (35' long and 15' tall road gap) I came up a touch short and my rear wheel exploded into six different pieces! Watch to the end of the video to see what happened as well as the rest of the day leading up to this insane occurrence! Awesome riding. Definitely were flying through those trails. My $0.015 worth, the rim must have already had some stress issues when if finally broke on that gap jump.

What caused this? A nose dive into the landing and hitting the back wheel too hard? It feels like if you had landed a little bit further, it would have been fine.
