It would be nice if you showed what terminal knots you use for fluro/mono/braid. You might get some good feedback on better knots for different situations. Fluro can be finicky with knots.
I dont think that metal hook will disolve by a lifetime of that barbel but the barbel will probably take it out by it self by scrubbing it on the rocks

Hey guys. Absolutely love this content. I’m a reasonably new angler and I’m looking into going pike fishing at my local river. I’ve tried a couple of times but I’ve had no luck in catching anything. I’ve tried lure fishing and I think I’m using the right gear. Got any advice?
This time of the year it's a bit harder to catch a pike on spinning dead baits do the job atm,wait 2-3 more months until gets warmer get some more lures by the time,last season top water lures do the job for me,and try then ;) good luck
I had a barbel once when livebaiting with gudgeon for perch. It was on a stretch of the river lea, where I've never seen a pike so was float fishing on 4lb line and hooked something that screamed off. I was convinced I'd hooked a pike, dispite never seeing anyone catch one from this stretch for the 20 years I'd been fishing it. Anyway, when I saw it was a barbel I was convinced it was foul hooked, but no, it was inside the mouth when I got it in, it weighed 8lb, I was gobsmacked by it, I'd only ever caught perch, chub and the occasional eel (2) in the 20 years I'd been fishing small live baits for perch. I guess barbel are more predatory than people think judging by the comments. Never had one take a lure or spinner myself, but it seems others have.
Thats a great story. I did think barbel may take the odd small dying fish. i know on some waters they're known to eat lamprey. Its funny a few days after i'd lost that barbel another guy fishing that exact same swim caught one on a creature bait. Must be a full moon or something 😅

Pike and musky do cross breed and they could fully live in our climate . I might be clutching at straws and im no expert but the colours and marking on that fish are strange .
I comming from Denmark and love pike fishing so can you please take to Denmark and so go to some thing Calt Bølling sø i got a relly relly big one down there and see some People from USA there cats 2 giant pikes and one fun fact deak on danish a pik so there i find utt a pike on english I think jo that People a relly sus and on danish pike a gedde

Those Berkley Gulp lures are dynamite. I use them out here in Oz and catch allsorts from Herring to Snapper on them
