Awesome new layout design! the new layout plan is similar in structure to what my dad and I have been working on for a while, I'm still in the track planning phase but we have the foam board cut and laid down on our plywood table tops. This video really helps me visualize and is encouraging for me for my plans as I might just need to start laying some track non-permanently to start (been using track planning software so far for now). Thank you for your awesome videos and updates, they're so chill, relaxing, and helpful!
Thank you! But that’s awesome to hear you got a layout going. Yeah I would just lay some track out like you say and see how it looks in real life. It’s nice to get a sort of visual when it’s right in front of you
So glad you tore up the old layout and started again on a more extended one. I jave had 7 layouts over the years and you definitely learn as you go. Great to see the space in the center, allows so much more scope. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to seeing it built.
I know this is going to be awesome after knowing how you create with such care , man.. This is going to be another great series we can look forward to as it grows ... You always have great ideas and techniques ..
The expansion makes a big difference in your layout. It now has more room to add all your desired track plan and your structures and scenery. Great job.
Small suggestion whenever I laid track I would Solder each of the rail joints for a better electrical connection, ONLY solder them on the Outside of the rail. Also when you do your soldering I would suggest using a rosin core solder or you can get rosin paste from an Electronics Store it helps the solder to flow under and around the joints better that's why you only have to put it on the outside just make sure the rails are inline which other when you do it. I just found your Channel today and have binge watched all of them up to this one will watch the rest tomorrow great layout. I also have a Black and White four legged Inspector that could be a brother to yours
Looking good! Suggestions: In case you haven’t finalized all of the plan, track skewed to the edge of the layout creates the illusion of greater size and depth (compared with parallel to the edge). Alternative to scraping off the paint, wipe the rail tops with your finger dipped in Vaseline. After painting simply wipe the rail head clean with a rag.
Smart idea laying all your track first before doing any scenery. I think you’ll find it easier to build and you will do A LOT less back tracking this way. Excited to see it go.
What I've learned to do with joiners, take a rasor blade and cut the plastic holding the ties together (not off the track tho), and slide the ties down the rail and slide a joiner fully on. Line the track together with the next section, and slide the joiner and pinch together. Then the ties can slide back in position, and can be skewed giving it a bit more randomness/realism
Love the new layout...much better to have a bigger area if you can. The smaller layout was going to feel constricted once you started filling in your buildings and industries.
Great video and tutorial of part 2 of the new layout! The additions you added on is making for an amazing layout! I also like the center section where you can have a birds eye view from a rotating bar stool. I believe this layout will turn out great once you get the track positioned to begin with scenery and buildings. I've been in Lancaster all week for vacation and went to WYOMISSING JUNCTION Tuesday and MACUNGIE on Wednesday! Spent a half day at each and saw plenty of trains! 4hrs at WYOMISSING JUNCTION and saw 15 trains! 4hrs at MACUNGIE and saw 12 so it was a great time especially with my new VLOGGING CAMERA! Thanks again TR and look fwd to seeing the next video my friend! Cheers from Delmar, Delaware well actually LANCASTER, PA lol
Thank you Shawn! That’s sounds like an amazing vacation! I would love to find spots like that to railfan especially with that much traffic. 15 trains in 4 hours is a lot! Cool to hear you got a vlog camera, hopefully you filmed some trains. Thanks again man!
Awesome video the layout looks amazing especially with the new expansion it will make it even better and you can run longer trains. Also I love seeing your cat I have one as well. I can't wait till next week's episode and can't wait to see your brand new locomotive.
Hey wate coming along nicely👍. The painting the side of the rails great idea makes it look so much more realistic. This should be good when its done👍😅.
Like the new video's, just a thought on when you add your joint compound over the track use an old set of trucks to roll through the wet mud to cut the flange ways then let dry and sand smooth.
Hello, Enjoyed your recent video presentations. Look forward to the next one and my reviews of past videos. I am in the process of building an HO Layout. When you have time, could you possibly suggest a source for HO layouts/track plans etc. Growing up I always had an HO Layout that I worked on. But now, I am trying to re-learn. Thank you, Jeff
That’s awesome! I would be always try the internet cause that’s where I go first. TH-cam is great as well or even trying to look at real railroads in your area for inspiration!
Something one of the guys up here show me but if you take an exacto knife with a chisel blade cut the molded Spike detail off and then use the edge of the knife too pry the rail up just air and you can slip Joiner between the rail and the tie you don't have to cut the entire off. You can also do that to stagger your rails on Flex track joints and it'll help with avoiding kinks
The larger the scale the more difficult it becomes to realize a nice layout. Many years ago I owned a H0 scale model railroad. It had a dimension of 7 x 4 ft. So it wasn't nearly big enough to create a realistic layout. Then the N-scale models came available and I changed to N-scale. My first N-scale layout was pretty big. It was L-shaped and it contained over 400 m (1300 ft) of tracks. After 15 years we moved to another village in the middle of our small country. The first few years I couldn't build a new layout because the room where I wanted to build it was occupied by my doughtier. SBecause my daughter lover model tries to he had asked my to built her a model railroad. It was a small layout of 5 x 3 ft with a very simpel layout. After she had moved the room came available to me to built a bigger one. Although the layout has nice dimensions it still is difficult to create a nice layout. I made a mistake to try to put as many tracks as possible on my layout. I thought it would provide me the possibility to create nice train movements. In a way it does have offered me nice possibilities but when I started to create the landscape I came to the conclusion that my design wasn't as great as I thought it would be. I'm now to old to start over so now I'm busy to reconstructing the existing layout. I wish you a Lott of joy working on your model railroad. I'm looking forward to see the cat running after the trains as my cat (and rabbit 😂) did. Greetings from The Netherlands
Can you reach the edge of the curve from the middle? Looks like a stool will be needed for derailment or other issues. About 2' is all I want to mess with. Good luck
If you have (or get) some oderless mineral spirts, dip the skewer in there and the paint comes off very easily. Also, might be better to put the curves down first then fit the straight to that instead of the opposite, might avoid some track kinks.
I do like the clickity clack sound and I may just do that for 1 of the curves, but I mostly use the flex track cause it has better electric flow since it’s all one piece
Wow I love how paint can drastically change scenery. Nice work! Quick question though, did you ever consider using one of those rust colored paint markers that are made for painting track? I'm curious to get your opinion on that.
I have thought about it. Maybe someday I’ll buy one to try on a section of track to see how I like it. I do the spray paint cause it looks good but also is fast haha
I will use cork bed on the other side but I will say the sounds are different when you add cork. It’s hard the describe but the cork gives a deeper and slightly quieter sound then no cork! Hope this helps!
I would suggest moving any lengths of straight track you have pinned down so then you do Not have to cut curved lengths of track and thus minimise wastage.... shown at 5:36 in this video.
Cleaning up the paint at your rail joiners is always good, I personally solder my rails together to further improve continuity. But some people don't if they intend on dismantling the track.
Lookin great! Nice expansion. I don’t care what anyone says, bigger is always better!!!! Thanks for sharing. Be blessed.
The middle part is such a great idea! Being able to watch the trains run around you will be amazing!
Thank you! And I agree, I can also have more angles for photography!
You have already given this old modeler some great ideas on my layout. Thank you. Cant wait to see how it looks when you're done!
Looking amazing so far, I can't wait to see it in action.

He does think that and it’s okay as long as he doesn’t cause catastrophic disasters haha

Your series is very enjoyable to watch and your video quality is superb. Keep it up!
The expansion makes a big difference in your layout. It now has more room to add all your desired track plan and your structures and scenery. Great job.
Thank you! I agree
So so happy you expanded! You made the right call by doing it and now going for more run space & industries for switching.
Yeah better now then when I’ve made a lot of progress already! I’ve learned my lesson lol
New Sub as your channel was just recommended to me. So far it looks like you're off to a good start. - Jason
Keep expanding! Go into the next room! Haha. Looks great so far. Love the painted track.
Your giving me more ideas 🧐😂 I wish though haha, thanks Mark!
Mark you should expand into the next room

Hi bro. I like the way you painted the track & I like the wooden dowel idea of cleaning the track.

Why do you cut track to fit at the curve versus the end of the straight?
Episode 2 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
😁😁
Did you finish this lay out or pull it back down ? Enjoy your videos..
This one was taken down but I explain why in the description of the new series I started a month ago
Just curious, why not use Atlas’ 22” and 24” curves? I like the “click clack” sound of cars going over joins so I avoid flex track.
I do like the clickity clack sound and I may just do that for 1 of the curves, but I mostly use the flex track cause it has better electric flow since it’s all one piece
Some great track work , how did prevent the paint or clean the switch points after you painted the turnouts , great video
When I paint it I try to switch it to where the paint won’t get to those points of contact. If not I gently scrape the paint away where I need
Wow I love how paint can drastically change scenery. Nice work! Quick question though, did you ever consider using one of those rust colored paint markers that are made for painting track? I'm curious to get your opinion on that.

Awesome!
Does the painting of the track affect electrical conductivity?
It shouldn’t! Just be careful with turnouts and points. You can always watch the plenty amount of videos on others painting track for tips!
are you going to contiue this
