You don't smell, you're pretty. The locals don't hate you. I think South Vietnamese are more friendlier.👍😊

The north was the hub of government during the war & are not as comfortable with westerners because many of the old ppl remember the horrors of that time & aren't so forgiving. Head south; it ain't gonna get better up there.

If local stores just have less than 2 chairs, they wont serve you at the table, cuz they might be caught by the police. I CANNOT sit there neither, eventhough I am a Vietnamese. They dont hate you at all, just because they sell food without gorvernment permission, that is why you saw many small stores with a few table and many tiny plastic chairs, that is in case the police comes, they can collect tables and chairs and run away easily.

I'm Vietnamese Australian and I too get overwhelmed in a city like VN, particularly Hanoi. Once you adapt to it, hope you can totally vibe it. Keep up the good work. Would love to have taken you out.....

North Vietnam is like that. Ppl are more conservative and judgey. That's why you should visit South Vn - Saigon. Ppl are more friendly and chill.

I don’t believe you are being mistreated. Seem to be like they sell their food to go only. And again maybe I am wrong.
Don’t feel down. Be positive and have a great experience in Vietnam

It just illegal to sit there at that time. Vendors has to deal with police to sell and serve on the sidewalk. I think she can't deal with the police to serve there.

I don’t think they hate you, I don’t think it’s a spot for anyone to sit. It’s probably not her chairs or stools. Trying to understand another culture is difficult. Don’t take it personal. Once you understand the culture and people, you will
Understand they don’t hate you. A lot of times vietnamese locals are just looking out for you. Please don’t assume the worst .

She was afraid that the fume from frying oil would stink you if you sit right in that spot. Use Google Translate next time.

They don't hate . You just have to understand their culture. In the restaurants you pay tax for your meals. From street vendors, you don't pay tax. The smaller the vendors, the less tax they pay. So the police chase them off the streets quite a bit. You cannot sit there because they might have to pack up and run. Hahaha

If you hang out in a very touristic area, backpacker street, etc then your chances of being taken advantage of or being treated indifferently will increase. In addition, chances are that vendors/locals in heavily touristed areas have seen their share of shitty, rowdy, unruly, rude, Youtubing/IG-ing tourists that color their perception of foreigners in general. In this video, that one lonely open chair doesn't look like it was meant for customers to sit on. In fact, there doesn't seem to be any outdoor seating/eating on that street at all. As for me, I wouldn't get all dolled up with make up and false lashes just to explore the streets of a developing country, but hey, you'd look great on IG.

Sorry about your experiences, this happens everywhere in the world, there are good people and bad people. Be aware of all the tourist traps, and always ask for the price first, you can use google translate to talk to them. I always do a research before I go to all the places
