While trying out re-registering Cortana, after I ran the command in Windows Powershell, I got "52 activities not shown" and it stopped there and nothing is happening further

None of these tricks worked for me... but here's the kicker... if I rebuild the local user profile (delete it and then log in fresh), the search bar works fine for as long as I like UNTIL I sign into my Microsoft Account... then the search bar stops working again. WTF??

Added two "old" ssds from my old computer to my new one, start menu search was broken upon reboot. Restarting the windows explorer from taskmanager fixed it. That's a lot less work than last time, when windows update broke it! :D
