So your windows search box is not working correctly? maybe you can't type in search box, or it stopped working after a windows update? whatever the reason I will show you how to fix it.

I had a very similar issue: I was able to type, but no search results appeared.
How I eventually fixed it: Task Manager -> Processes Tab -> Restart "Windows Explorer" Task

I tried everything in the video (without luck) and then found another one, where it simply suggested to open Task Manager and restart the Windows Explorer task. That fixed it for me.

when I did the powershell method, I had sooooo many lines colored with red. it didnt look at all like your example...i tried EVERY way and my search bar is still not working.

You can use "Win + R" to, maybe, search for something like cmd.
What if the Index Option window freeses and stuck at "Waiting to receive indexing status.."

@@luvr. it doesn't harm to your pc or data...it just indexes all files and folders to be searched once again...go for it if you're facing same issue

Try giving "Endtask" for Cortona in Task manager.
For me Cortona was suspended,above step resolved the issue.

if C:\Windows\System32\ctfmon.exe worked for you can put a batch that runs this command in this folderso it runs the command on startup:
%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

I did a system restore this morning and then at night I noticed that my Start Menu would open up, but then I can't type anything. System Restore said that it didn't successfully restored and so I guess it messed up Win10. Now with your help, it works again. Many Thanks.

Yes
To permanently fix this issue, you should also add an entry of this program to startup so that it can start itself with Windows.
To add the ctfmon.exe app to startup, follow these steps:
1. Press "WIN+R" key combination to launch RUN dialog box then type regedit and press Enter. It'll open Registry Editor.
2. Now go to following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
3. In right-side pane, create a new String with the name ctfmon and set its value to C:\Windows\System32\ctfmon.exe

I downloaded Windows 10 the other day, and it has been a nightmare! Now my desktop is performing almost as bad as my laptop, which is really just a paperweight that you plug in.

Just fixed this annoying problem I woke up with this morning, it’s the Bing integration, here’s the steps:
> Run Regedit.exe
> Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search
> Look for "BingSearchEnabled", if you don't see it you will need to create it, just right click in a blank area and pick New DWORD 32 bit. Type in BingSearchEnabled
> Double click on BingSearchEnabled and set it to 0 and press OK.
> Do the same steps for CortanaConsent, if you don't see it, create a DWORD 32 bit, again set it to 0.
> Reboot.

Search google for "windows 10 search doesn't show results and open the top result. It should be an article telling you to go into regedit. Worked for me

After 1 hour of searching, I finally find a video that solves the problem.

Try this:
1. Press Win + R to open the Run command.
2. Copy or type the command "C:\Windows\system32\ctfmon.exe" in the Run box and then click Enter to bring back the language bar.
I saw this posted a few time and thought it might be a cmd that will mess things up but i did it and im shocked that it worked' thanks alot

2. But when you restart it may stopped working again, just create a task to run this program every time you start the windows. press Windows Key + R type “shell:startup” into the Run dialog .
3. now create a shortcut of fmon.exe and paste that in the Startup folder.
4. Press Win + R (to open Run )
copy paste and press enter to run this program. "C:\Windows\system32\ctfmon.exe".
"C:\Windows\System32\ctfmon.exe" works. Thanks

5TH FEB 2020 - SEARCH BAR PRODUCES BLACK SCREEN - ONLY METHOD THAT WORKED FOR ME -
Go to regedit
(right click start - run - type regedit)
-> choose HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software->Microsoft->Windows->CurentVersion->Search
Right Click Search Folder - create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value
And Type Name BingSearchEnabled
Double Click the new value - BingSearchEnabled
And set value to 0 hexadecimall
In that Same List I also double clicked CortanaConsent and changed value from 1 to 0.
RESTART YOUR COMPUTER
Search works again for me.

Thank you for this video, after almost 2-3 days of research and a chat with Microsoft Support (shoutout to Ravi) but to no avail, I am able to fix Media Streaming, which wouldn't work if Windows Search and Windows Media Player Network Sharing is disabled in Windows Services. By following the 2nd method presented in the video, which is to rebuild the index in Control Panel, I have now enabled, finally, both Windows Search and Windows Media Player Network Sharing in Windows Services, thanks so much, Britec!

I agree Everything is darn fast once it builds the initial index. Started using it back in Win7 days and still use it. Agent Ransack will allow you to search within files for a particular string as well.
yup me too, it came standard with 'Tiny 7' and then anytime afterwards I would install it, seems to work fine in Win 10 as well, cheers matey 🐢😊
