We Found Something UNEXPECTED Inside This Abandoned Mine...

  • We discovered something completely unexpected while exploring this abandoned mine tunnel in the middle of nowhere... 😱
We explored this abandoned mine tunnel after hiking a good 1.5 miles up a steep canyon that had recently been completely washed out.
At first we were just happy to see the tunnel was not sealed up. The entrance of the tunnel was not inviting, as you can see from the thumbnail.

Just to clarify and to avoid confusion, I had another person with me in the mine. You may hear her voice from time to time and eventually see her, but not until more than half way through the video. I wanted to clear up any confusion as to the other voice in the video. :-)

Just to let you know, that you and your girlfriend should do some miner's research before going into caves & mines. #1 Even today they use a bird in a cage, because their is no meter that can read a certain percentage of gases and once the bird is dead, they remove it from it's cage and drop it and leave the cave at once. It's a warning to other miners that enter. #2 The zero with the x through it, means no one died when they had a gas blow out or earth quake at 8:00. #3 Those red ribbons means this cave could instant flash flood or a gas air pockets just above. #4 Yes they do have fall out caves, but believe me, you will never find them as they are so far under ground. #5 It's a good thing you didn't poke a hole in that bag you thought was water. Look at the other idiots that thought they should take the Radioactive substance out of the black cans and broken bags. They probably are dead from cancer by now. Their is a sign on the side of the drums that says radioactive-look on your video. Their is a reason they are in black drums (to keep the light out) and resealed with more plastics. #6 When your batteries drain fast, it means you have storm water pollution and to get out of the cave fast or you'll die next. GO EXPLORE - BUT BE SMART & SAFE.

Sony makes incredible cameras for video, especially at night. How good are they at photography? How much gear do you carry with you? Might be worth bringing a few cheap LED lights and small tripods to light up the rooms. Personally, I would ditch the camera flash and just use a good tripod and long exposures. The extra noise can be corrected in post. Not sure how advanced you are with your photography. You might know more than me, and if so, please disregard. :-)

PunkinHead - While your scenario is a distinct possibility; the main reason for those wooden pegs is to hang vent bagging, Air, Water, & Electric lines. Vent bagging on one side of the drift and Air, Water, & Electric on the other. Keeps the floor clear and they're less susceptible to damage. - .

not sure if someone already mentioned it but that yellow stuff is likely carnotite. its usually lemon-yellow and a highly radioactive mineral consisting of hydrated vanadate of uranium and potassium. The white fluid you see on the ground is most likely chemical precipitate from the dissolution of her surrounding hydrated minerals. Probably a mix of carbonates and soluble salts.
I do hope you washed off well and did not ingest any.
Also that respirator bag looks new (post 1960). It's probably for serpentinite or chrysotile which is essentially asbestos. Those white spiny/fibrous crystals you found are likely chrysotile. I hope to God you didn't disturb any! That stuff will permanently inbed itself in any mucous membrane.
Also, typically hydrated hydrothermal minerals associated with carnotite will contain any number of toxic minerals either via chemical reactivity, radiation or inhalation hazards.
I'm a geologist by the way. Cool video though! I've explored my fair share of abandoned mines here in Arizona and New Mexico.

Thank you for the info. One thing I am 100% certain of is the primary ores were Gold and Silver. Other types of minerals include calcite, pyrite, and chalcedonic quartz. I was thinking those crystals may be asbestos too, so we didn't disturb it.

Awesome video! As far as the tunneling goes, the structure and feathers at 14:20 were undoubtedly a mine shaft to the surface at one time. Pretty darn cool.
As for having to live in the "hole like this" 19:44 as a fallout shelter, the reality is you would only need to be there for a couple of weeks or so. You mainly would want to be there during the initial blast. Three things kill you and a nuclear blast. One, the immense radiation in the vicinity of the explosion. That is generally unavoidable, but in that tunnel, you would be safe. Number two is the residual radiation that is very high for couple of weeks or so. When it comes radiation from that type of explosion, the very high radiation emitting atoms, tie off very quickly also. Thus after a couple weeks or so the radiation levels have been extremely reduced. The third thing is chemical poisoning. Many of the elements from the explosion are entrained in the dust/atmosphere. It would certainly be advisable to wear respiratory protection. When it comes of that anything is better than nothing. Shortly thereafter you should be able to grow food. In the meantime, you can venture into your tunnel and retrieve your supplies.Sorry for rambling on, sometimes I get that way ha ha ha I speak what I have of my mind and on my mind right now is self preservation education with respect to nuclear things. It was triggered by your find so I'm going to blame it on you how's that sound ! Anyhow have a great day!

Actually those wooden wedges in the back (roof) are for hanging old power lines, blasting line or phone line. then for the yellow rock and dirt, it's usually just decaying rock and minerals. the birds died more than likely from getting lost in the dark or something brought them in. for future reference for you guys, use your senses to detect for gases like confusion, headaches, tightness in your chest ect. a lot of mines just have bad air due to it being stagnant and the oxygen and gasses separating with the heavier to lighter... if that makes sense to you.

The reason the metal bars where in the ceiling was because when mining that deep the pressure starts to build up, putting rods in it that as some point were connected to rock pillars that had been carved out most likely would release the pressure over multiple points.

Hello. I love your videos, but I have one small gripe... Why do you always say that you will come back and check the dates on food cans, bottles etc? Why not just pick them up immediately and do it? Some of us would like to know these little details! Anyway, keep on doing what you do, I have been binging your videos all weekend and dig them a lot. For some scary mine videos, you should check out Exploring with fighters and Hell on Earth, both have some nail-biting mine content! Love from a Brit ex-pat Virginia transplant!!!

That "yellow cake stuff" does not come out of mines like that😂. It's a concentrated powder made in the process of refining uranium ore. There is a process called 'situ leaching' where a solution is pumped through uranium ore deposits and then the "yellow cake stuff" is dried and collected. But this is not that.
