Someone else mentioned it, but this was likely some sort of desert town, likely railroad related. In the days of steam engines, it may have been a watering stop as there is obviously a spring that comes up there somewhere. Anyplace where there was water in the desert usually had some sort of population, even if only for the railroad. Over the years, the rail right of way has likely been moved and elevated to avoid flash floods.

These videos are amazing! Here in the UK we don't have those vast tracts of empty land like the US has, size obviously. So it's great to see these long abandoned places out in the back arse of nowhere. Really intriguing.
Just FYI, you can usually tell the date of manufacture of those old round headlights because a date is typically molded around the front edge of the glass.
i just found you and we are enjoy the vids - the bus is (as far as I can find) a 1957 Thomas Built. Having a interest in history your videos are a glimpse in places I could not goto in person so keep it up! By they way, The kokoweef mine, I lost a friend in there (not the one you went to the real dig) due to bad air. Since leaving California I haven't been back to the mine (we had stock in the dig, mainly for access and camping) Anyway, I could see if some of my old friend still have access- The Crystal Cave area.
You are right. It is reminiscent of the Walking Dead. This one abandoned building gives the impression of post-apocalyptic America. Scary!

That was a cattle to train load out years ago. There are many of them in the west. They were used through the 1960's. The railroads ran extra trains to move stocker cattle and kill cows to feedlots and packers in the fall. They would unload in the major stock yards. Omaha, Chicago, Milwaukee Los Angles and so many more places. On a regular bases the railroads loaded Fat cattle and cows for slaughter at these types of places. There was a whole schedule of when and what time the livestock trains were coming through...Another great piece of Americana lost...
Old Duff Do you think the multiple engine cars up front are for added torque & power for hauling? Or do you think they're just transporting them? I don't think I've ever seen that done on trains where I live (rural/suburban Upstate NY) and if I have seen it then I somehow never noticed. We don't haul cattle in the trains around here though, and they're usually shorter, (maybe 5-10 cars long at most through my area.)
As far a age is concerned, look at the nails. Square head nails were phased out between 1890-1900 then rounded ones came in the picture.

Loved the old vehicles you found, its a shame they've been left that way, some of them are probally worth good money, the front end of the first bus is worth alot. Keep up the good work. Great video. Wonder what happened to the cattle ranchers. Too bad the place was trashed by vandals. Don't understand why people do that. Area looks like Humboldt or, Elko. Thanks for taking time making the trip.
My personal hypothesis on the two lone adobe buildings by the railroad is that they were railroad work camps. Probably not lived in year-round, but only when workers were dropped off there and stayed for a couple weeks or whatever to do extended rail work or inspections. The construction is durable but also cheap, and looks like a lot of it could be just storage rooms. Better engines and rail construction made them unnecessary, eventually.
Obviously I don't know this for sure, but that just seems to be the look of the place, especially with the location.
Love the vids. My uncles would love those old cars; they're into restoring old clunkers into like-new pieces of history.

Great video once again. I want to pack up and move out there...so much to explore, I'd be metal detecting every area also. Downside though, both of you must be picking ticks off your clothes constantly.
Thank you Chris. I am just waiting for the temps to come down below 100 to start metal detecting, better weather in Northern Nevada this time of year. We spray a lot of bug spray and permethrine, it does a great job of keep those nasty ticks off.
Even though a lot of these places are really old, it's amazing how more recent brand items keep showing like that Redd's beer. I get the impression that maybe squatters found some of these places after they were abandoned, and lived there at times. With all the homeless people in the world, not really such a bad idea, but they probably got spooked, and ran off never to return after vandals, and explorers like you and Emma showed up.

Have you guys thought of taking metal detectors with you? People back then often hid money in walls, or buried it at the base of foundations. You may find some amazing treasures in some of these locations.

I was just reading up on killer bees and apparently their sting isn't as nasty as a European bee it's just that if you attack one of their kind, the whole hive comes after you. It's about 12" long & heavier than a baseball bat, but easier to carry than a bat, it's similar to a "billy club kind they carry in riots" It comes with rechargeable batteries, has rubber handle for a good grip to carry & an ON & OFF SWITCH" it's the maximum legal voltage/sounds loud & scares the holy by jesus out of you, I don't plan on using it, but you never know, I'd try friendly talk 1st. It has a strobe light, regular strong flash light on end with spikes that protect the light & could scratch them...I take mine on walks bc we have a lot of coyotes & if I go hiking, It could scare away mountain lions, if they aren't that hungry, lol! Or better yet, going the places you go to, I'd take a gun! (these days, YOU MUST BE SAFE BOB & EMMA - TRUST NO ONE! Brass knuckles, are also a good choice, duct tape in case someone like me talks too much & drives ya crazy, lol...sorry 4 the corny jokes. Also, I think when you go inside those big long walks, i.e, mines or buildings, take a back pack with a little food, water, oh & pepper spray. You may have this stuff with you. Your a smart good looking man Bob & Your daughter is just beautiful...movie star quality! Emma, when you go to those buildings inside, put hair up, wear a cute bandana & tie in back, prevent getting spiders or lice, etc in that long beautiful hair of yours! ⚘❤🌷LOVE & Prayers,

I saw a 62 or 63 Ford Falcon station wagon there. We had one when I was a rugrat. That bee spray will most likely just get you into trouble by stirring up a bunch of Africanized bees. Killer bees are pretty much like normal bees just don't mess with their hives and avoid swarms and they will leave you alone. I bee keep out at the ranch I part own in AZ and I just gave up on European bees. All my hives are Africanized. I've only been stung a few times and I rarely wear a bee suit while working on the hives. The smoker settles them down just as easily as European bees. Twitchy erratic behavior is what will typically set them off and once pissed off they are way more aggressive than European bees. That second group of buildings are early tilt up wall construction. Probably 1920's or later. They build wall frames flat on the ground, pour them full of concrete then tilt them up. Too thin to be adobe and adobe would have dissolved in a flood.
Probably wild horses-trains hauling them out, dropping supplies. I bet there were corrals built around those buildings.

You got to remember that all GM headlights are around or all from the seventies 79 on up is when they change the square headlights I mean no 86 is when they switch the square headlights 86 or 87th when they switch to the square headlights so the round headlights are definitely in the seventies
Bees with the exception of killer bees will not attack unless you get too close to their nests . Only then is when you will pose a threat to them.

There are stray cows all over the place. You can see them in the hills all the time.

Don't get me wrong though i absolutely Lovee Nature and being outside.♡ I take him outside as much as i can but while he's so young i just feel comfortable being home with him.
