    I'm very proud of Debbie for being proud of her Si and embracing her identity. There's nothing called a "bad" function because every function has their own unique strengths. I've seen lots of people who are overestimating and praising Ne and Ni over other functions and lots of people with Si bias but it's nice to see a conversation without any Si bias.

    It is so nice to see you 4 ISTJs. I had an unhealthy (very unhealthy) ISTJ friend and I actually didn't like how she behaved often, so we're not friends anymore. But it's so nice to see all you likable ISTJs.

    Wow, the editing on this video is great haha. Muffin Button 😜
    I loved this episode. ISTJ's are one of my favorite types. I really admire their mind, integrity, and heart. Keeping your word is such an admirable trait 💕

      Every Ne dom needs a muffin button. 😂
      Yes!! ISTJs really add something special to the world. Their commitment to doing the right thing even when it's hard is so admirable.
      Also, ESFPs are fantastic too and charismatic as all heck 😉🤍

    This is a great panel; they all brought a lot of great information to the table that demystified or destroyed ISTJ stereotypes.
    Appreciate all of you and Joyce’s effort in bringing them together.

    The ISTJs I know are, of course, reliable but they are funny and fun and creative just in practical ways. They build things, learn useful information, plan trips for the family to enjoy. They respond to affection. I admire them very much! One just needs to articulate clearly what we want them to know; they don’t easily read other people’s emotional needs. They tend to trust their ways of doing things but they can and will adapt if they see that it is necessary for someone they love. Still, they like new adventures like travel. They remind me of beavers - they work hard and so are responsible for a whole ecosystem surviving. 😁

    YES! That is so true about us having to translate as we talk and it making us talk a little more slowly. I totally KNOW when I'm right about something and as an INTJ with well-developed Ti, I am confident that I've done my verification, but trying to explain all of that to someone is just too much work. First of all, I spent probably dozens or hundreds of hours reviewing and organizing the information so there is just no way to put all of that into words in the short time of one conversation. And secondly, it's true that it's stored often in a symbolic or visual or archetypal way, much like we say a painting is worth a thousand words, which does not lend itself to translation. It's like, I KNOW how to interpret and understand it but you are just going to have to trust me. :-)

  • @NTJTalk

    Wow, it's very nice hearing from ISTJ's. It appears that they always want things to be clear, no clouds in the sky, but a clear blue sky. I've also realised that it's not that they dislike the clouds on an overcast day, but it's because they cannot work well with it. The difference between intuition and sensing is fascinating. As an NTJ type myself, I sort of like open ended questions. Because I feel like I'm not limited to give an answer to stay in the box. But of course, I can give closed answers, of which depend on the type of question asked.
    I've also observed that STJ's are more blunt and direct than NTJ's. Si is trying to pin point and come to a final, complete, resolute answer. On the other hand Ni is trying to come to understand the final answer, and is asking questions like why, how, who what and when.
    I'm learning more about cognitive functions and type behaviours. Thanks for the video Joyce!

    The dependable question might be more strongly correlated with Te than Si, although Si does have a reputation for loyalty. I'm INTJ and highly conscientious about the things described in the "are you dependable" question, myself.

    • @NoOne-wt6om
      @NoOne-wt6om 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My (tert) Si is obviously higher than my Te but I'm independable because my conscientiousness is very low. So I also think that being dependable is more related with Te.

    It would be interesting to see Ni dom work with Si dom on one project.. Si dom would remember the details of the path and help Ni dom to support the refined concept with the facts. And Ni dom would help Si dom to come to conclusions and connections based on their facts.. could their cooperation look like that?

  • @hfortenberry
    @hfortenberry 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Good discussions! Yeah, regarding the future path, I too think about the trajectory of the human race. I never thought about it that way before (how Ryan described his path as very narrowly-focused on his personal path without thinking of it in relation to others) but it's so true, as an Ni user, I am always looking at my future in the largest scope/context possible which includes how I will impact as many people as possible in the best way possible. I don't think I've ever seen my future self in a context smaller than global. When I was a very small child, 4 or 5, I remember very specifically having visions of everything and everyone and outer space and the planet. My mind was naturally already expanded to the largest scope in my short experience.
    Maybe when I was really young, long before we had the internet and we did not have the capacity to think about other cultures in a very practical way I did not see exactly how I could help; but, I think even then I still thought globally in a theoretical way, as if "ahhhh, someday, I wish I could help all the starving people in the world" even though it was nothing more than a pipe dream. I had no actual practical understanding of the starving people outside of what I read in books and my National Geographic periodical subscription. And when I was a child, you literally HAD to have a lot of money to even start a business (which I wanted to do but did not see as a viable option since I did not come from money). It's SO DIFFERENT now. The internet is the great equalizer. Anyone can start an online business.
    Now that we have internet and social media, those quiet, pipe dream musings we had are all blown out of the water and people can now have MASSIVE impact. That is precisely what drew me into wanting to build websites back in 1997 when I built my first website. I was enthralled with the idea that anyone in the world could communicate and build a business with this new platform, the internet, and it would open doors for people for whom they had preciously been shut. But yeah, my future vision always includes pretty much everyone. LOL Frankly that's what makes it difficult because I am always trying to OPTIMIZE how I can have the greatest impact on the most people and do so in the most efficient way (again, so I can be the most effective). It takes a LOT of organizing and planning.

      That's the difference with a strong Ni user. Here's is another INTJ in a video interview that deeply share the same sentiment as yours - (th-cam.com/video/uUc0Yil-6gs/w-d-xo.html). Go to 3:45 and 18:25 in that video and listen how similar it is. And what ultimately Ni is.

    • @JoyceMeng22
      @JoyceMeng22  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah Ni users (and intuitives in general) like to think in the broadest scope possible! Hard relate to this. 🙂

  • @imetal16ddin1
    @imetal16ddin1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes Laura! I think each type can only understand the functions through their own lens (functions that they use). So while MBTI can help people understand each other better - there will never be a full understanding. To me that is very difficult to accept, it makes me sad. That no one can be fully understood or known.

  • @apollo1055
    @apollo1055 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Completely out of topic but I wonder how Ni users fare in a debate with Ne users. My INTJ friend avoids my INTP friend like a plague whenever the INTP tries to bait the INTJ. Wonder if all or at least most INTJs are like that.

    • @hannaheclaire8184
      @hannaheclaire8184 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      omg that reminds me of the intjs i know! they dont want to waste time debating things they’ve already proven to be true or false. i read an article about intjs and intps and how they react differently to being called wrong. intjs might raise an eyebrow but will ultimately move on with their day, while intps are more likely to get angry because they truly despise being called wrong. it takes intps such a long time to “choose a side” or come to a conclusion, that they take opposing opinions as a personal attack on their intelligence/hardwork

    • @Iceman219
      @Iceman219 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Debate is better suited for Te. It's quicker, and more forceful, plus there's no Fe in the stack to worry about. Ti is more meticulous and slow. It will have to draw the debate out longer through semantic precision to cause the Te user to trip up over what they're saying.

    • @Iceman219
      @Iceman219 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ ENTPs are called the debater for their propensity to engage in debate as part of their Ne process plus the satisfaction of the 3rd slot Fe, not so much the Ti although it certainly helps to actually try and win a debate.
      Sure, I don't doubt Ti's are super accurate especially if they know the topic. They will probably shred someone if they have pre-existing knowledge.
      If the topic is unknown to both parties, than Te should have the advantage in making a case in real time. The proactive nature of Te really helps in debate vs the reactive nature of Ti. If the debate is on an online forum where the Ti has 24 hours to respond then yeah, no question Ti will dominate that.

    • @Iceman219
      @Iceman219 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ I don't agree with Fe not mattering. It's going to affect the Ti user in some way or another considering the two are connected. You can't just shut it off for a debate and then back on again for loved ones. That's not how it works.

    I thought Ryan was so on point when he talked about half ended answers. We really need to be certain of our knowledge and what is shared, anything that is left to be interpreted is a struggle. Its either one or the other, not in between.
    I also really related with what Debbie said. Different from what the stereotypes draw Istj as being rule followers we wont unconsciously follow rules if they don't make sense to us, at times we can be very rebelistic when a certain information does not make factual sense regardless how many follow and trust it.
