    As an INTP, it feels awkward seeing other INTP's socialize. I'm on the fence of being fascinated and bored at the same time. I have to force myself to focus, even though I'm interested. Anyone else feel this way? 😊

      INTPs are just not good with structured and group based conversations, and I think most INTPs on the internet have a permanent Ti Si loop. Get that Ne going and have 1 on 1 flexible conversation and the INTP can shine

    I'm INTP and had an FE mother. I hated, abhored her socializing, her constant joking. At about age 40 decided to do whatever it took to keep the peace with people, to prevent awkward feelings towards myself. So, I asked myself , what would my mom have said here, in this situation?. I did it often and now it's easy to socialize, keep the chit chat going, make jokes, keep it positive and light . Invoking my FE mom is what did it. Grace said the INTP with an FE parent has it easier. We do.

      When they talk about going on autopilot, I like to call it "letting the lizard brain drive". It's when I get so stuck in my own thoughts, I realize my body has been operating on autopilot. This arrangement often works out but sometimes it goes really wrong when you realized your body was making a mistake and your mind wasn't there to correct it before it was too late. Ex.: I go to fetch a Tylenol for my wife and end up taking it myself (lizard brain has consumable, must consume). I only realize my mistake when I go to return to my wife empty handed and she wonders why.

    02:46 - 04:07 literally the story of my life (as an ENFP) of how i got into MBTI.
    This confusion and boiling urge deep inside you to understand why you are the way you are, why are you so different from others, why you see the world in such a different way and can't relate to most of people's vision...Yeah, i get that. After finding out about typology, learning about Carl Jung i felt SO relieved and it helped me A LOT. I honestly think it was the most meanigful breakthrough for me in my entire life. Before MBTI i was trying to relate to some characters in movies etc., writers and their visions/reflections, musicians (especially their lyrics) but there was always something missing, to me right now, it's pretty clear what it was, anyways, thank you Eric for sharing :) I also LOVE your channel

    Wow! I don't know too many INTP men, but these guys all seem so different. It's almost hard to peg an INTP if you meet one. Some are more socially aware, emotionally aware. While some men are more logical, stoic and verbose. Maybe knowing a bit of the Enneagram types might give some answers for sub-type INTP's. Such an interesting panel! 👏👏👏

    As an INTP woman, my personality has caused me a lot of grief. I tend to put myself in places where I'm not perceived as belonging. Men, and people in general, are often threatened or put off by me. The way people communicate (indirectly) confounds me. Yet, I value my honest, analytical, and kind (as opposed to polite) way of being. I wouldn't want it any other way. If you do an INTP panel of women, I'd be up for it and I'm an especially true-to-type INTP.

  • @rogerhuggettjr.7675
    @rogerhuggettjr.7675 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I agree with CS Joseph's view that INTP Fe is best developed by developing our other aspects. Our competence in Ti and Ne will create interest in others. Logic and pattern recognition also go a long way to creating the harmony our Fe desires. Ne is very good at reacting to things as they come if we don't freeze up through overreaction. Its so important that we don't stress Fe weakness for a self-fulfilling prophesy of social failure or fall in the other ditch of thinking we use Ti and don't do feelings. We need Fe applied to Ti to not offend and have our logical work accepted. If we treat dating or other social matters with the same stoic approach to how our opinions or quirky humor are received and not overly invested in positive responses we will come across as smoother.

    • @00Klingon
      @00Klingon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. I've found that being married to an ENFJ has forced me to be more in tune with Fe in ways I've never noticed before and in ways uncommon for most INTP. It may be that my wife is just biased but she tells me I'm far smoother in social situations than I give myself credit for. Discovering MBTI has only furthered that awakening for me. It's been some time since I've delved as deeply into a new subject with Ti and Ne that I almost felt a high the more I learned. I think I can now explain the why and how of many human interactions and I can even be predictive of such interactions. I've found that I've already made huge impacts both in my own personal relationships but also helping those around me that I'm beginning to feel like that wise sage that people come to for advice. It's been a very fulfilling experience overall; I highly recommend it for any INTP who feels they are struggling to understand humanity.

    • @rogerhuggettjr.7675
      @rogerhuggettjr.7675 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@00Klingon I think a big thing is not being emotionally invested in how others react to me. My Fe will let me pick up the mood of the room so I can tailor how I express my Ti so it doesn't create unnecessary fiction against my opinions, but social anxiety By this approach I wasn't stressed over first dates. I'm reactive to the data I get back from the other person, but if its not what I'm hoping for it doesn't knock me out of my frame like needing a positive response would.

    • @00Klingon
      @00Klingon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rogerhuggettjr.7675 I believe CS Joseph would refer to that as being more shadow focused. There is definitely something to be said for not chasing Fe in a way that would cause you to be taken advantage of and having that insecurity of offending others is something that all INTP deal with. Having confidence in being able to handle diverse social situations is something that comes naturally with age as Ti and Ne builds those frameworks and can begin to predict what works and what doesn't. This is why an understanding of MBTI can really help in this endeavor. Having some social vulnerability can also be endearing to some personality types as well but it is completely situational of what works and what doesn't. Know your audience, confidence is attractive, but tone deafness is not.

    • @rogerhuggettjr.7675
      @rogerhuggettjr.7675 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@00Klingon I had thought being in one's shadow referred to one's unconscious mode (for us, ENTJ), but I'd never heard it defined. That's a good point about Ti/Ne pattern recognition that grows with experience. That can help support our Fe inferior empathy.

    • @dxfifa
      @dxfifa 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is Si child and the mild social trauma that almost all true INTPs face (constant rejection and active exclusion, people looking at you like you are crazy or weird for being so abstract) that is what kills us socially. You have to reject Si in favour of Ne to grow. Yes, the Fe doms, and the Te using sensors are going to really make you feel like shit and try to make you feel unwelcome when you Ti/Ne everyone. So what? Are you gonna let them make you suppress your extroverted functions? Yes almost all of us INTP males have been alienated by groups of STJs and their leaders, the Se doms (this is who STJs wish they could be). But I will tell you a secret, Fe users actually love us when they get to know us. Ne users like us, Ti users all like us
      It's only the Te/Fi users with Si as their next introverted function that really don't like us on an individual level unless we are like them in very important ways.
      INFP, ISTJ, ESTJ are never going to like us unless we change or have some strong mutual interest that they value a lot.
      Ni doms are very individual cases, it's usually a big hit or big miss
      The SFPs can be hard to click with but if you talk like your Ne is Se it can work. Imagine you are reading a written story about your surroundings and let them feed you with their Fi.
      For example, you might focus on the clouds, but instead of Ti/Ne just Ne/Si concepts you know are sensory and emotive to others. Don't lead with how the clouds are made of x y z and tell them the story of how clouds form and ask them if that is interesting. Lead with describing the clouds, then say how wonderous they are. Ask them questions about how the clouds make them feel when they look. Then react with responses that use Ne to expand on whatever they are describing

    That point about the subjective viewpoint was really interesting, the way that Eric the INTP put it was almost poetic.

  • @jrtrackee
    @jrtrackee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Ti studies the interaction between subject A and subject B, C, D and so on. Fi, in contrast, studies subject A, as itself, and B, as itself, using the other subjects to learn more about the single subject.

I'd like to hear about its significance, a good test and whether the results can change. I don't know, if like the online MBTI, just ask bad questions and get bad results. Non-INTP here: I can relate to the question about balancing connection with others vs. showing how I'm actually wired. And I'm starting to do less mirroring and hiding behind questions and focus on the other person, and to show more of what's me. But it's a hard proces. Because it means that you will see the truth of your connecion with others and face facts about your relationships being not right for you.

    I'm ENTP but an enneagram 5, so I relate a lot with the INTP. I figured watching this could help me and I could relate. I sometimes even wonder if I am ENTP though. I'm pretty sure I have an INTP/INTJ cousin, and I went to a summer camp with him a few years ago. I remember him asking me how I was so good at socializing with people and how I could do it without creeping people out and getting them to like me. I laughed at that because I honestly feel like I lack in my social skills and being normal. I figure maybe I'm better than I give myself credit, but as an ENTP that is almost INTP I do not always feel like a true social butterfly. What confused me even more is that I was technically diagnosed with high functioning autism when I was 8. They almost didn't diagnose me, and it was a tough diagnosis because I was better socially than most and I had few other issues. Even as I have aged and gotten involved a lot in society I have grown out of some mannerisms and developed good social skills. I just find it funny when people say I am a social butterfly and that I'm very good with others and meeting new people. I think I will always be a bit quirky and odd, but I don't think most people would put me in the same category with other autistics that they know. It kind of sucks because I don't feel normal enough to fit in with most people but also don't feel weird enough to fit in with autistics. I almost never tell people that I technically have autism because I know people are quick to make judgments about me that are wrong because of their experiences with other autistics.

    @1:45:51 When Noah is talking about his 'shower thoughts', I absolutely relate to that specific example. I'm sure I can think of other specific examples as well but I have a really hard time taking showers that are shorter than like 30 minutes because so much of my shower time just ends up with me just kind of soaking between tasks, just mentally diverging and losing track of time. The isolation, the lack of a particularly engaging activity, the comfort. I think all of that adds up to this really optimal space for 'Ne-ing' (I dislike using the names of the functions as verbs, but I couldn't think of an appropriate way to otherwise express that).

    The way it seems INTP often experiences Fe. It seems Inferior Fe and trickster Se combine to create a kind of blindness to social cues. INTP ends up missing the nuances of body language, especially while in the thralls of talking or performing in service of Fe. I've also noticed a child-like innocence or naive way of seeing Fe, which leads to a lack of awareness or even consideration that people might lie or manipulate for personal gain. This is because the innocence of Fe within the INTP is generally more simple, like a young child processing emotions. This sometimes makes INTP both frustrating to be around (because they don't see how being like a dog on a bone sometimes bores or annoys others) and they become easy targets for narcissistic people, due to the ease of being able to gaslight them.
    However, once the INTP strengthsens this function (usually between the age of 35-40), they become like a level 100 character in an RPG who had been struggling because they didn't notice all of the unused skill points until 40 hours in. Suddenly their Si & Ti bring to memory the toxic Fe interactions of the past with a much more mature understanding and the game suddenly feels easy.

    I also want to object to the term "over thinking." That's not a real condition. The true term and condition is a called a loop. If you find the error in the logic you can move out of the loop. Please stop shaming a logician for being a logician people. That's a micro aggression term "over thinking" is a code analysis "over thinking?" No. It's called code analysis. People get paid for that. It's the same with real world code analysis. All we need is to find the error.

    So you guys (INTPs), how are you relationship to the fact that even science (or scientificly discovered truths) is an approximation of (or "to") the actual universal truth and that finding the universal truth is limited by our human senses and our cognition and ability to only hold that much complexity in our brains?

    • @skywalker5thwrld
      @skywalker5thwrld ปีที่แล้ว

      Tho our 5 traditional senses are compelled by or imposed upon by this limitation you perceive; I would say to recognize the higher truth of our universal complexity the other 8 senses must be activated and exercised. Clairsentience may not be an INTP’s strong suit, but I’m sure claircognizance is right up your alley 😉 if it isn’t already your secret weapon.

    • @aniokay
      @aniokay ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@skywalker5thwrld I have no idea how to interpret that comment. I didn't mean spirituality or a higher truth. I meant the actual truth and with approximation, I meant approximation. I'm educated within science and everyone within the sciences know that every theory is model that come close to describing the phenomena that is observed. I would like to know if Ti-doms are making distinctions between approximations to the truth and then the actual truth (which might never be known).

    As an intp people think we're robots cos we only respond. I had a co worker who straight up ask me why I was like a robot and never talked at work. I hate my self for being a harsh person, but I told him straight " it's because you are boring to talk to. All you talk about is your car, girl friend or your church group, plus we're at work" he never talked to me again and low key was happy cos omg did this guy never stopped talking about most mundane stuff ever. Btw his car talk was never about performance, it was always about his stance and wheels he traded, bought or sold. All superficial none sense.

      @@vg1024 Having a different shade of skin or connection to an ancestral population doesn't make someone substantively different. This panel kinda provides evidence of that. They sound similar, have similar mannerisms, and are all clearly the products of the broad North American culture.
      I look like your average Midwestern white dude. Nonetheless, I believe that I have more in common with these eight gentlemen than I would have in common with any 6ft, 200lb, blond, blue eyed ESFJ. Even within this group, I don't feel any more represented by Eric The INTP or Noah than I do by Joshua or Justin. If anything, age/maturity seems to be the thing that creates the biggest differences within the INTP personality type.

      @@unnecessaryapostrophe4047 I suspect you don't have the self-awareness to recognize when someone is treating you differently based on your appearance and how it DOES affect YOUR experience as a person. Or you've just determined it's dumb to judge people on the basis of their appearance so you don't recognize or even take the time to consider that it can affect an individual's experience. 🤷
      But I do get what you mean. Someone's skin tone does not entirely limit our ability to connect and feel represented by another person whom is similar in other ways. We can find a basis to connect on which has little to nothing to do with our appearance. I just think it's silly for you to dismiss someone else's experience so simply without first checking the facts that have been clearly expressed by those who can confirm the reality where their experience is different from yours just because they don't look like you. But hey, at least you're not completely wrong.
