    Thank you. We need more people in our congress that don’t fear, and have decency, fairness, and compassion, and a willingness to work across the aisle with others. God bless. Keep it the faith and continue the good work to work together.

    As a Democrat in Alabama, it can be so discouraging. This really hit home when I looked at my ballot in November and am so relieved and hopeful to see someone going to Congress for the right reasons. I look forward to seeing what you can do. Thank you!

    I remembered advice I was given a long while ago. Fear of someone or something only serves them/it. Take your power back. Be fearless. That is how we reclaim the truth. Representative Figures is a voice of honesty and common sense. If we keep electing people like him, we got this!

    I counted 11 uncontested Republicans on my Alabama ballot, mostly in judicial races. This was incredibly discouraging.

    • @pamelas9
      @pamelas9 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The DNC is definitely dropping the ball, just because a progressive couldn't win some of these races doesn't mean a centrist democrat (which is still leagues better than a republican) couldn't. They are playing it far too safe.

    It is truly extraordinary what has happened politically in Alabama and Louisiana. African Americans deserve fair representation in every state, at every level of government. And they now have it federally in LA and AL, although tenously, 160 years after the end of African American enslavement. Extraordinary.
    And as a native Black Ohioan, Black Midwesterner-descendant of the Great Migration-I am deeply affected that Shomari was greatly influenced by his work with Sen. Sherrod Brown. It is all connected, all cyclical.
    And this district represents part of what is the Black Belt in America, which spans from Maryland to the Mississippi Delta. The Black Belt has long been denied politically. No more in Alabama.

    I grew up in Mobile, but "escaped" that toxic environment in 1982, when I graduated from Auburn University and was able to find a job out of state.
    As a white kid, I used to ride my banana seat bicycle past that large KKK property in Spring Hill that the KKK had to sell to pay part of the settlement in that lawsuit your father won against them. It actually had a big sign out front with the name KKK proudly on it. I always saw that type of proudness in historical hate and cruelty as a cultural shame. As I recall, the KKK also had to sell their national headquarters property in New York City as well to come up with enough money to pay that settlement, which I think was karma in action.
    You and your family are true heroes, and represent the possibility of a better future for my poor beleaguered hometown. Thank you.

    I have one disagreement with the Congressman-elect. Election Day should remain on the Tuesday. BUT, it should be a holiday for all. Saturday is not really a day off for many, many, people, especially those who tend to be disenfranchised. Making the Election Day Tuesday a holiday will allow more people to participate than just moving it to a Saturday, imo.

    I really Enjoyed to listen to this young man. I want to see in him more strength when he is speaking and voicing his observation and plan of action. I also think that he needs to work on the education of those that are still in the system age appropriate with civic and government mechanics. I just have one oversite of his to point out - Saturday is a bad day for some of the population for voting. I know that Sunday is also a bad day for part of the population. If you check the calendrer there are no Holidays on Tuesdays. The only good thing about Tuesday is that G-D said and "it was good twice".
